Admittedly, this has the pricing of a tourist trap—where you think it wouldn’t be good. To the contrary, the pastel de bacalao was the best I had in Portugal. The addition of cheese made it so flavorful and gooey. I got the combo with port, which came with a souvenir glass and a board to walk around with. 15 euros for the pastel and port was very steep compared to other pasteis de bacalao, but I say go for the splurge if you can and try a few others along the way. The souvenir glass is very cute and I’m glad it made it home safely!

We found it! We weren't looking for it but it was on our list of places to try.
While we were bumbling along it came to the point we decided we'd sit somewhere and have a refreshment break.
As we looked around the seats outside and the establishments I was pleased to realise where we were.
We ordered The Portuguese Experience which is one Pastel de Bacalhau each and a glass of port served in their branded board. The glass and board are ours to keep.
The little Pastels were very good, ousing with cheese, not too hot and very tasty.
It's a good spot to watch the world go by, and the tram do it's turn around. The driver takes his seat et al from what was the front to the back, flips all the seats to face the opposite direction, jumps out and relocates the electric wire from front to back. Now it's ready to go again.
At 4pm the clock chimed at the Torre dos Clerigos by Pastel de Bacalhaus and the 49 bells chimed Ode to Joy for a good 10 minutes, 30th January sat in the warm afternoon sun, it was wonderful,

Well located. The experience was extremely good. The "pastel de bacalhau" was good as we expected. Also we took it with the recomended wine. Incredible atmosphere, there's a 3rd vintage library floor.

Touristy of course. The library vibe is a nice touch, as is the pipe organ. Make sure you catch a pipe organ performance while sipping a port and munching your cod cake. They’ll give you a tiny painters palette to hold your drink and food as you wander around and find a spot to listen to the show.

I couldn't agree more with your desire to try new foods when traveling, and the Pastel de Bacalhau at Casa Portuguesa in Porto is definitely a dish that should be on every foodie's list.

Located near the iconic Clerigos Tower, Casa Portuguesa offers a true taste of Portugal with their Pastel de Bacalhau paired with Porto wine. The pastry itself is perfectly crisp and flaky, while the filling is packed with the savory flavors of salt cod, potatoes, onions, and parsley.

What's truly remarkable about this dish is the balance of flavors. The saltiness of the cod is perfectly offset by the potatoes and onions, while the parsley adds a fresh burst of flavor that ties everything together. And let's not forget about the wine - the Porto wine served at Casa Portuguesa is a perfect match for the Pastel de Bacalhau, enhancing its rich and complex flavors.

The staff at Casa Portuguesa is friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall experience of dining at this charming little shop. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply looking to try something new, the Pastel de Bacalhau at Casa Portuguesa is a must-try dish that won't disappoint. I highly recommend giving it a try on your next trip to Porto!

Ok, I agree when people say this is place for tourists, but you can’t deny that their pastel de bacalhau are amazing! Get the one with cheese inside, and I would suggest skipping the wine if don’t want to spend much, unless you really want the glass as a souvenir (they let you take it home - only fair considering the price they charge 👀).
Are there heaps of other amazing pastel de bacalhau out there for a cheaper price? YES, but you can’t take the credit away from this one! They are delicious!!

I saw it. I knew it was a tourist trap. I wanted it anyway. The codfish thing was tasty and the port was great. Best of all, you get to keep the port glass with the little board they give you. All for €12. Good deal to me! An easy 5 stars, and I can be hard to please.

Best pastel de Bacalhau con queso in Portugal! The service is great, the place is beautiful and the little terrace on the third floor has a stunning view

I think there are much cheaper options in Porto for the same product but the shop is very cute, nicely decorated and you can see people prepare the cods behind a glass.

It was a bit of a wait because the place is touristic, but the staff was nice and the food very tasty. You can also order a glass of wine 🍷 but i haven’t tried. Possible to eat upstairs (2 rooms).

Good service, location and atmosphere. 3rd floor library was very nice to sit and look out the terrace. Not many options to eat but quite tasty to try. Port was good as well. One with Cheese is better than the other. Its a littke pricey but very nice visit

A must try if you are visiting Porto.Larger than the average croquettes and filled with a delicious local cheese. You can have it paired with port or just a beer.A lovely authentic building with excellent service. You can watch them being made too.I was greedy and had two but really one is plenty.A little expensive in comparison with the usual bacalau croquettes which are available everywhere and usually cost about 3 euros for 3.But worth the experience.

FOOD

Every time I visit Lisbon, I run to the city and particularly to this place to déguste the best pastel in the world. So delicious.
Long cute and quite expensive, but it worths!
When I have not time to seat then I take away. Once arrive in Paris, I put them in the the freezer.

Pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon this little place. We payed €25 for 2x cod cakes and 2x white port wine, and we got to keep the glasses as a souvenir, which had todays date printed on the side, and the restaraunts logo on the other.

The cod cakes were delicious, a mixture of fresh cod, potato and sheep cheese lightly fried, and weren't left with a greasy finish.

You can watch the ladies make them fresh in the viewing window at the front of the store. -we didn't feel that it was mass produced like some other reviewers have stated.

The wine accompanied it perfectly, but much like a dessert wine, but didn't over do it.

The staff were super friendly, and spoke English fluently, which helped us loads considering we cannot speak any Portuguese.

We ate upstairs and enjoyed the theatrical feel and music.

Whilst expensive, it was worth the stop in for our momentos and a taste of the local cuisine.

Nice location with outside seating. They only have the fish cake in the menu as that is their specialty. It was tasty and good if you like fish. You can also see how they are being prepared. Good place to try something local and authentic.

Yes it may be a tourist trap but it was delicious and a Portuguese experience!! The building was impressive with lots of great tile, wood work and old character!
I realized some people complained about them being gross but they are not... If you have issues with texture then these may not be for you

Amazing food, even better service from everyone who was there. Sara was in the window making the bacalhau and was awesome. She interacted with lots of people and made it fun.
