Really nice hiking trail. There is no ocean view but you see fully mountains and vegetation.

As we couldn't make all and came back from the half of it, was still so impressive.

Covered in clouds but it still had some magical feeling. The trip from the third highest to the highest mountain was AMAZING and we had many beautiful views to a walleyes. The hike is difficult and there are many stairs. But worth every step I took

Nice hike up to the top. Not too steep and the way is pretty well built. If you want to watch the sunset take a flashlight with you for your way back. Also always carry a windproof jacket. Up there it can get pretty windy

We walked PR 1.3 from Encumeada to Pico de Ruivo and back; it took about 4 hours one way. In the summer it tends to get cloudy from noon on, so start early to make sure you’ll get those breathtaking views. Especially stunning is the silhouette of the entire PR1, which shows in the distance around the midpoint of the trail. There are a lot of steep steps, so good condition is required. Overall, a fantastic and peaceful hike - we barely met any people all day.

PR1.3 (and PR12) is completely passable although it is claimed to be 'closed'. I think this is said so in order to keep tourists out. If you come as a hiker, this route is super easy and no scrambling is required. A good option is to do a horseshoe taking Pico do Arieiro, Pico Ruivo, Pico do Jorge, Pico Grande. From there you can continue to Boca da Corrida or descend to Faja Escura to take a bus. Allow 12 hours.

Really nice hiking area, lots of stuff to do, not only the hike to Pico Ruivo.

This is THE best hiking route on Madeira. Not as crowded as PR1 but just as beautiful. Rather challenging and sou need good shoes. Out and back it took us 7 hours.

We just parked a car here. Then we went to the highest mountain Pico Ruivo 1862m. We start at 1818m, but the trac first go down and up and down and up... But it's worth it. The view is stunning.

Amazing pique!

Pico Ruivo- 1865 metres. Very good trekking road, absolutely incredible views. If you like walking tour - must see for visiting.

Not an easy walk but if stairs are not a problem then it's very good hike. You need to be lucky to get the clear view to the ocean but not so hard to spot the blue clear sunny sky because clouds are below you.

Lovely place to walk but it is quite a tough challenge. Some steep steps up and down do make it hard going but the views are wonderful

One of the best walks in Madeira. You can reach the highest point of the island and admire great views. But the weather is frequently bad. It's best to try in the summer

This is 6-7 hours hike. Make sure you have enough water and something to eat with you. You can fill your water bottle in the hut by Pico Ruivo.(after 3 hours). Apply sunscreen, wear sunglasses and cover your head (you are at the same level as Morocco, the sunlight is strong there). Don't forget a flashlight- you will go through 6 tunnels. Enjoy beautiful views!

The whole way if you start Achada do Teixeira, climb the Pico Ruivo and make it all the way to Encumeada is around 15 km. It took me 4,5 hours, but if you are not trained for mountain tracking, count on at least 6-7. Start early in the morning to make it before the sunset. Access only by car. The view is amazing!
