Restaurante Olives

This charming restaurant, nestled in the heart of Funchal's historic old town, offers a delightful dining experience. We thoroughly enjoyed both the cuisine and its presentation. While we had a bit of trouble selecting the perfect wine, our waiter graciously provided us with recommendations. Additionally, their diverse menu includes excellent vegan and vegetarian choices. What's more, their prices are remarkably reasonable given the quality of the offerings, and the ambiance is truly inviting. The establishment occupies a lovely house with high ceilings and adorned with exquisite paintings. We were fortunate to be seated by the windows on a small balcony, allowing us to relish the view of the bustling street below. All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

Not just a great meal but a lovely experience .
We enjoyed a beautiful 3 course meal. I had vegan options and they were absolutely divine, all well labelled as was the wine. The apple crumble was truly the best I've eaten.
Sitting out on the balcony was just glorious in the evening sunshine. Such a beautiful place to eat with fantastic service. We have already booked again for next week for our final evening meal in Maderia before heading home. We highly recommend this restaurant and remember to book...it really is a gem 💛

Enjoyed a wonderful experience sitting on a balcony overlooking the narrow street below. Food was freshly cooked and presented with flair. Each course was a triumph and a feast for the taste buds. Small restaurant with a distinctive vibe. The two brothers were friendly and entertaining. Highly recommend and will be back on our next trip!

Nice place and good food, many vegetarian and vegan options. Definitly try the chocolate moelleux, it's absolutely amazing! Food is nicely presented and a good price as well.

One of the loveliest restaurants I've ever eaten at! Such a beautiful place, serving the most gorgeous food, including an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu. The service was exceptional, with the most attentive waiter who was happy to recommend the perfect wines and other drinks to accompany each course. And the tables on the Juliette balconies make for the most wonderful dining experience! Truly special ❤.

Tasty food! Intresting place. Highly recommended. But only go if you are not in a rush. Service is really, really slow, so the place definitely needs an extra pair of hands. The server did his best 👌

Gorgeous little place with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. We sat out on the balcony which was very quaint. The portions were small but allowed for us to try all three courses. Would recommend!

Our first trip to Restaurante Olives but I am sure we will be back. From first to last this was a real experience. Olives is tucked away in the Funchal backstreets but well worth the effort of seeking out. Service is friendly, relaxed and unhurried in a peaceful atmosphere. The wine list is extensive but house wines are excellent. For starters we had goats cheese and the prawns- both excellent. Mains were the fabulous beef fillet and the rack of lamb. Both cooked exactly as requested. And rounded off with dessert accompanied by a glass of Madeira.

Just had a fabulous 3 course dinner here this evening. Beautifully cooked and presented food in unassuming elegant surroundings. €69 for 2 of us including a glass of wine each.
Great selection of vegetarian choices.

Delicious! Portion sizes aren't too large, perfect for dinner. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options, and they taste amazing. Dining room was nice and the chef brought us our dishes personally. Prices are also reasonable, and service was fairly quick.

Olives restaurant is run by two very cheerful talented gentlemen. The food and atmosphere is so excellent we will be returning again to Olives when staying in Madeira. High recommend anyone to reserve a table at Olives to try fine dining when staying in Funchal, Madeira.

All the food was lovely. The risotto with the Madeira wine was especially good! My favourite meal that I had on the island.
The restaurant has 3 (I think) balcony tables. Another couple finished and we hadn't started eating yet so the waiter whisked our table out onto the available balcony which was very kind (we didn't even ask!). The building itself is old and has a lot of character. Great value for money given the quality of the food (and service!). Definitely worth a visit. :)

Wonderful location, lovely funny and warm hearted service. All dishes were top 5 stars and super delicious and served spectaculious. All in all one of the best in Funchal, maybe the best. The chief in service is for sure the best of all in Funchal as well as the chef. Top best recommendations from my side

Great restaurant in beautiful surroundings. There is a lovely balcony with a street view of one of Funchal’s lovely back streets. Excellent and varied choice of vegetarian, vegan and non vegetarian on the menu. With more than the usual choice for vegans/veggies. Food was well presented and well prepared. Friendly and attentive staff.
The decor gives the feel of a high end restaurant, but the prices are not too expensive for the quality of food! They also have a great selection of local craft beers and wines.
Would highly recommend this place if you’re in beautiful Madeira

We went to this place because it advertised with good meatless & plant based options and it did not disappoint.

The food is really nice and price vs quality is very high. The people who work there are also very friendly and deliver good service. You really feel welcome.

The atmosphere is much better then in most Madeira restaurants. We really enjoyed ourselves.

If there was one improvement point that would be that the waiter walk very fast through the restaurant which feels a bit rushed when you’re eating. I feel like they need maybe 1 more person to help out and create a more peaceful environment. But like i said it’s a a small thing. I highly recommend this place.

So good that we ate here twice!
On our first night in Madeira my wife and I tried to walk in without a reservation but it was fully booked, so we made a reservation a few days later. We had such a great meal that we came back on the last night of our holiday. The service is amazing, the food is delicious (great vegetarian options), fantastic wines and the atmosphere on the balcony is very special.

We went for a dinner and I can only recommend this place!

We were sitting on the balcony which was really nice (however inside it is also looking nice) and the food was great. We had goat cheese for startes and salmon and pork for the main. Everything was really tasty.

The waiter was really kind and nice, so the chef Oliveira. The restaurant has such a good atmosphere, the balcony, the music, everything. We will definitely come back to this place!

Fabulous meal and great service. This was a wonderful dinner in a lovely dining room. FYI it has no shop front, just a door with a sign and you go upstairs. Highly recommended and we will go back again. Thank you so much!

Excellent food! We stumbled across this quaint place on our stroll around the streets, it exceeded our expectations! The food was amazing, we ended up ordering 7 starters between three! Three mains and three desert, the waiter and chef were so hospitable! The atmosphere was great, balcony out overlooking the street, quiet music and a good vibe for Madeira! This is our last night here and was a great experience. The review below this, is very inaccurate, I saw them come in, didn’t engage with the staff and walked out.
