Great tour and great cave with a full length of 1 km. Tour takes about one hour ( 2 movies to watch and half hour walk in the cave). They have a shop where u can buy drinks, postcards and gifts, and also there is a toilet. Easy to get acces to.

Caves and museum are closed till 2024. You can only visit souvenir shop and garden.
In my opinion that should be communicated better as many tourists visited, parked and went up to the entry to be dissapointed. No sign with information that place is closed and also information where that place is located is poorly marked.
Free toilets and very well maintaned gardens. Very nice staff.

Amazing caves.
Like others have been said, there is also a short film at the end. We liked it.
Road to go to Sao Vicente is nice, and really worth to visit, inside the caves, it's not hard to walk and you can be with any close, an easy path has been constructed for visitors.

We had some problems finding the parking lot and the entrance because Google maps said it was in the middle of the roundabout but that's on us. Once you stop looking at the map and start paying attention to the signposts it's actually really easy to get to. For the 8€ entrance fee we got a half hour presentation with movies about how the island was born. After that there was a half hour guided tour through the cave with an amazing tour guide. The cave itself is beautiful and should be visited by everyone who spends some time on this wonderful island. Thanks for the opportunity.

This is more than just caves or grottos.
The walk through the lava tubes is around 700 metres, a well guided and explained walk in Portuguese, English and German. This leads you into an exhibition centre with numerous artefacts, then a film of how the island was formed, and finally onto a 3D film about the island and the caves.
Excellent value at only 8 euros per person. It's very easy to find, well sign posted, worth hiring a car for the day (from as little as 36 euros) and doing your own thing, rather than paying a tour operator 25 euros per person.

Nice to see it. Parking place close to main entrance. These volcanic caves were formed 890 thousand years ago by volcanic eruption. Adult ticket for 8€, child for 6€. Tour includes cca. 30 min walking in caves + 3D movie explaining how Madeira island was created. 👍☺

What an amazing place to visit! Needs to be on your must do list. The caves and guides information was detailed, informative and exceedingly interesting. Would have liked to explore more pipes but understand the restrictions. Would definitely recommend a visit, well worth every penny!

Intresting 30 min with many videos about the formation of the island and over its volcanoes. After the tour we go into the cave for about 20 min. The price of about 8 € is suitable for the tour. Guided tours only!

Unfortunately the caves were closed but we had a lovely visit of the museum with a lovely guide. The simulation movie at the end of the visit is so far a 3D masterpiece !!

I wish I spent more time viewing the exhibits- so educational and informative. Loved the 3D movie and elevator effects. The tour of the caves was amazing.

There are the caves and the Volcanism centre.

The caves provide a very well organized visit, lasting about 30 minutes, properly conducted by expert guides. The visit supplements the repetitive monotony of a slightly diverse visual offering, with the creation of a mysterious, properly illuminated path, referencing it with well-chosen music and a certain illumination with magical architectures and, especially, with the Earth Center's telluric imagery. .

The Volcanism Center is located next to the São Vicente Caves, on the cliff opposite the Ribeira de São Vicente in a charming village on the north coast of Madeira, at the bottom of the valley, where the formation of the island began. It combines culture and knowledge with leisure and entertainment, in a pavilion that allows around 90 visitors to watch, in a pedagogical and playful way, the audiovisual shows that recreate the geological evolution of the caves, the eruption of a volcano and also to the simulation of the birth of the Madeira Archipelago.

Went here 7 years ago. I've been to volcanos all over the world. This is unique as one can go through lava tubes.
