Great walk. Only met a couple of walkers on the entire walk as it's still officially closed 😋
You need boots and don't rely on the occasional broken or weak barriers.
I went as far as the first tunnel and returned to the official board then walked along Levada down towards Sao Vincent. On that section you have to take your boots off to cross a stream. I hitchhiked back . Bolt (taxi) costs about €13 from Sao Vincent.

Beautiful hike alongside the mountains! You get a mixture of forest, cliffside and tunnel as you go and it’s definitely worth a visit! Our first real hike on Madeira and it was amazing!! The only thing we found challenging was the last tunnel as it was very narrow in places and it took some mental courage to walk through the 1km long dark tunnel. You don’t have to be that experienced as we weren’t really but do bring a flashlight and maybe a raincoat, we went without raincoat but got very wet from waterfalls and dripping water in the tunnels. The trail is not otherwise difficult as the paths are quite good (but often close to edges of steep cliffs) and it’s not much of an incline either. As the hike itself is soo beautiful you really don’t have to go through the last tunnel if you don’t feel up to it, it is not long to the end of the trail after the tunnel but you do get to see some very nice waterfalls there!

The levada is stunning! The walking route goes through the old forests with maritime pine, eucalyptus, laural and amazing aroma of all of that. There are few waterfalls and three tunnels on the way.
The parking is quite big and about 200m before the start of hiking route.

Loved it! Although the second tunnel is really long, low and narrow, tall people beware :) I had to crouch pretty much all the time, but the misty jungle view afterwards was worth it.

Best levada I visited in Madeira. There are 3 tunnels: the last one is about 1,5km long. Be aware that the path is very narrow. If you're very tall or very wide, it might be very difficult for you to pass the tunnels (especially the last one). Bring the light and prepare for the moments when you have to pass other hikers. The path itself is not hard, but the tunnels are tricky. And bring a waterproof jacket because it will be wet there (in the tunnels and on the path if the weather is cloudy). Anyway. I highly recommend this place 👌

One of my favourite hikes on the island. Its a very easy one in terms of incline as you will be on flat route for the whole thing. It's a loop so you will go back the way you came.
There's a 1km tunnel at the end which may be a problem if you're very tall or claustrophobic but there's a lovely waterfall on the other side. The tunnels can also be slippery so take care.
There are parts where you must walk under a waterfall and will get a little wet as a result so a raincoat will help.
The hike has a lot of natural beauty and greenery and is a peaceful experience otherwise.

Another top hike to one of the most beautiful places on Madeira. Quite easy hike, however there is one very long tunel in the way. It takes 15-20 minutes to go through. It’s very difficult to avoid people in it. I strongly recommend to put on water shoes and when needed, just jump to the water cannal and than jump back on the very narrow way. The tunnel could be a problem for claustrophobic people. When you reach the end if the trail and you are adventure type, climb the boulders up 20 meters to first pool. If you want even more, use the fallen tree to get to the second pool. You can swim in both of them, despite they are small.

Very nice and green walk, very uncrowded compared to other walks. On the way to the end it was dry and the second waterfall where you go behind was not that exciting. There was another waterfall where you couldn't go without getting wet so I would recommend taking minimum raincoat. Tunnels were sometimes small but manageable with handy torch at level 5 though headlamp would be more comfortable.
If it was wet the days before or you expect rain definitely take waterproof shoes or gumboots on the way back passage without was possible only getting wet feet.
The nature was astonishing and though great parts were like a natural shower for us and I would 100% recommend going there!

Shorter but beautiful levada with very few tourists and nice views of São Vicente. The tunnels make this levada even more interesting, with one extra long almost at the end. Having a head torch is highly recommended as going through the tunnels may be tricky due to low ceilings and a small ledge. Due to these reasons, I wouldn't recommend this levada for families with toddlers or kids in child carriers. In addition, a landslide occurred just outside the third tunnel, which makes traversing this levada even a bit trickier. There are also couple of waterfalls, so pack some waterproof gear if you don't want to get wet.

Path is short and beautiful, but long tunnel is recommended only for experienced hikers. (Not recommened for old people or children).

Peacefull hike with almost no elevation. Didn't do the last tunnel (aprox 1 km) because the two preceding tunnels were rather narrow. Still one of the most beautifull hikes i did on Madeira. Recommended.

What to pack: Wear sturdy hiking boots, light rain coat. The weather can change quickly in the mountains. Bring a headlamp which you’ll need in the tunnels. Carry some water and snacks and you are ready to go.

Starting point Levada Fajã do Rodrigues: The address of the levada is Caminho Velho das Ginjas in São Vicente. But you can also find the starting point by putting in the name of the levada in Google Maps. There is no public bus going to the start of this levada walk. So you will definitely need a rental car or pay for a taxi. At the trailhead is enough parking space and you’ll quickly see the first signs directing you to the start of the trailhead.

Hike distance and duration: Levada Faja do Rodrigues is an out and back trail which means you’ll walk the same way back to the parking. The total distance is 8 kilometres, so about 4 km one way. Because there is no incline during this hike you can maintain a quite fast walking pace. It will take you anywhere between 2 to 3 hours to complete this hike. Out of Summer months some part of the path can be difficult to cross due to flooded water paths. Be careful when crossing these paths that's why tall hiking boots are recommended.

Hike difficulty and incline: With well-maintained levada paths and only 95 meters of incline, the Faja do Rodrigues hike is quite easy. However officially this levada trail is classified as “moderately difficult” because of the long tunnels. Especially the last tunnel which is about a kilometre long and takes approximately 20 minutes to cross. For tall people it’s not very comfortable to walk through these tunnels. You’ll have to bend over all the time, and the tunnel is quite narrow.

We stopped in a bakery before de hike. I recommend bakery '' Padaria do Calhau'' only 14 min away from this Levada (I added a review in google for this bakery go and check)
I hope you Enjoy!

These paths are absolutely spectacular.
You can't get enough to look the sights and it's out of this world how the waterfalls show up. Also the tunnels are amazing, the last one is very long, it took us 13 minutes from start to its end.

Ended up doing this levada instead of 25 fontes and absolutely no regrets! There's several waterfalls and tunnels on the way, we've only met few people on the path. Be prepared to get wet and wear good shoes as the path gets muddy

Had such a nice walk! The last tunnel is very long (about 1km) so take your headlamps.

Very nice and relaxing hike with few people. Easy at the beginning but the last of the three tunnels is really tricky since it is quite long and you are around 15 minutes in the tunnel. The path is narrow, the tunnel ceiling low and you have to take care not to fall into the levada. However, you will be awarded with a stunning setting. At the end of the trail you can climb on your own risk a little further to the very beginning of the levada with a beautiful pool.

A beautiful simple levada walk. If you are a tunnel entuziast this levada is for you as almost half of it is in tunnels. Tunnels overal are not as exciting when you are returning to the car, but it does have its own exciting side. This levada can be muddy after rain and due to waterfalls. Also waterfalls fall on the path so raincoat is recommended to feel comfortable. Tunnel paths are quite narrow so leave the luggage in the car or hotel. I would not recommend this path for a bigger person as the tunnels will be very tricky to pass. Of course a torch is a must.

Very nice levada, but not safe, as barriers in couple of places are damaged by rockfall.
This is why it is closed but none will give you a ticket of you enter this route. Amazing views and experience.

Loved this levada. We found out after walking it that it was closed (no signs there) but we had no problem going to the first tunnel. Fun and interesting even if it needed some repairs. The tunnels have rather narrow walking paths so we turned back after the first tunnel. Highly recommended walk though.
