Levada da Rocha Vermelha

Amazing hike. View from the other side of the tunnel is stunning.
To get there ignore the levada sign in the cobble road and continue up and keep going once the road gets rough. Park at the white house at the end of the road with the huge pipe just before it. Walk past the white house on the left side and follow the levada for about a 1/4 mile before you get to the tunnel. Enjoy!

We really enjoyed this walk. As others mentioned struggled little bit with finding it, but it was worth it. I just wished I’d took warmer and waterproof clothes. It was really hot on one side of the tunnel and cold on the other . We did it with our 8 year old, but had to hold him most of the times especially in the tunnel as path is one person wide. We loved the fact that there wasn’t many people comparing to other places.

Great route! You might want to leave a car a bit lower as the road gets tricky with simple car. Then take the path up until you reach small white house and that’s where levada gets to the pipe. Then get ready for long tunnel, have your torch or phone charged, after a tunnel you will get into incredible nature, colours, waterfalls! It’s like a fairytale.
Be prepared with good waterproof shoes and some rain if the cloud go down.

Unfortunately this hike is closed now (2023. Aug) due to a landslide.

Highly recommend this trail, no other people in sight and plenty to see. It is a bit more of a venture to get to but definitely worth it.

One of the best hikes on Madeira. 6 hours of walking, adventure.... finally. - not suitable for children, people with dizziness and the elderly. - a bit of climbing. - secrets, do not follow PR6. - quite hard and slippery stairs, and detours with a bit of climbing. - the longest tunnels of madeira 20minute to 30 minutes. - simply beautiful places. 19/20 my rating, just for the island of madeira. at home, I would never give a note note above 19 and below 1. Perfection and nullity do not exist.

Ein traumhafter Weg zum Ziel! Wir hatten absolutes Glück und konnten dieses Stückchen Erde fast ohne andere Menschen genießen.

Die beste Levada-Wanderung, die man sich vorstellen kann. Viel Abwechslung und spannende Erlebnisse (Tunnel, Treppen, etc.). Waren ca. 7 Stunden unterwegs (hin und zurück). Der Anfang ist ein bisschen schwierig zu finden (weisses Haus am Ende der Strasse). An dem in Google Maps markierten Ort wurden mehrere Reifen von uns und anderen Touristen aufgestochen. Ich empfehle, beim Wanderparkplatz ER211 zu parkieren, bis zum Tunneleingang Levada 25 Fontes zu laufen und vor dem Tunnel den Weg nach unten nehmen, Unten steht man dann vor dem Tunnel Levada da Rocha Vermelha, wo die Levada startet.

Increíble lugar, el comienzo del recorrido es un poco empinado aproximadamente 1km hasta llegar a la levada, luego de eso el camino se vuelve más fácil, es necesario tener algún tipo de linterna, si no tienes linterna asegúrate de tener batería en el celular, hay que atravesar un túnel de por lo menos 1 km totalmente oscuro. Poca señalización así que hay que estar atentos, desde esta levada tambien se puede llegar a las 25 funtes

Vareda longa com uma paisagem magnífica com vários tons de verde um desafio muito gratificante se for para ir a madre tem de ter uma boa condição física

La seule difficulté est de trouver le point de départ. Nous nous sommes arrêtés à la fin de la montée pavée et de la il faut continuer la piste principale, ça monte dur et après vous arrivez à la maison des agents forestiers. La levada est juste derrière. La rando est super, le tunnel est impressionnant et long mais sans difficulté. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié.

Hieno levada-reitti lähellä asutusta, mutta omassa rauhassa. Itäpuolella reitti suuntaa kohti voimalaitosta. Reitti länteen oli rauhallinen ja kaunis. Helpolla reitillä ei ole paljon korkeuseroja tai haastavia kohtia, niin se sopii kaikille kävelijöille. Auton saa parkkiin lähtöpisteen kääntöpaikalle. Tästä lähtevä mukulakivitie oli liian kuoppainen henkilöautolle.

Krásná levada, ale pozor - nutná čelovka a kvalitní vysoká obuv. Prochází se 2km dlouhý úzký tunel, z části hodně vody.

Tunnel ist ein riesen Spaß für Groß und Klein (Achtung, Kopf nicht stoßen)
