Taberna Portuguesa

I would come here every day if I was staying in Carvoeiro. The food is absolutely amazing. We tried the golden bream and the portuguese steak - the best ones I had in Portugal so far. The prices are too low for what it offers! The wine is also amazing - it’s safe to have the traditional Vino Verde. The service made our lunch even better as everyone is very friendly and very customer oriented. I was asking for something they didj’t have in the menu, but they made it possible. Excellent! Ah, we also had some bread amd olives in the beginning and cheesecake at the end, it was a very good choice!

We stopped for lunch. We sat outside under huge parasols where the seating is a few steps up, so away from the busy road. The service was quick and with a smile. We had a fish salad, chicken c salad, a whole squid and the extra large house hamburger. All the food was fantastic and good value. We also had drinks including freshly squeezed orange. Worth a visit.

The steak and garlic prawns were amazingly tasty 😋 A must go place in Carvoeiro, but make sure you book!! Fair price, generous portions and good service.

Incredible service, we ordered chorizo for a starter and it was spectacularly presented following with mains (prawn curry and mix fish selection on hot stone). Wide selection of dishes, expect a warm welcome.

Taverna Portuguese is a wonderful Portuguese food experience. We came back 3 times!! I recommend the shrimp piri-piri, the black linguini with shrimp and the lamb in cream sauce with mint was incredible. The evening ended with a decadent chocolate brownie, absolutely delicious. Hope to get back there again before heading back to Canada.

Great place, the waiter was funny but gentle, the food was really good as well; we were checking around us and all the food looked delicious, specially the meat, I want to come back just try it.

Super nice staff and the quality of the food was amazing. I consider ir cheap for the quality! It's really good to see that you can eat great food for good prices everywhere in Portugal. We went there last minute and it was a an amazing surprise. Kuddos to the quality of the meat. We all tried different plates and all loved it.

With so many options to choose from in Carvoeiro it can feel like all the restaurants are more or less the same, if you're looking for someone to try I reccomend this being your first choice, the simple but charming decor belies the masterful quality of the food. The prawns were some of the best I've had in Portugal and the fish was equally dreamy. The staff are very helpful and provide authentic suggestions from the menu. Top quality in every aspect.

In my party of 4, we all ordered either meat or fish 'on the stone '. It was a fantastic experience and the food was perfect as you cook it to the level you want to. Lovely, ambient setting just a few minutes walk from the centre of town. Would definitely recommend.

Taberna Portuguesa is a nice, cheap restaurant with lots of different food on the menu.

I had the fish soup, scallops with black pudding, and chicken liver along with a salad - all of which made for an absolutely delicious meal for astound €20!

There were a couple of flies in the ointment: I shared some oysters with a friend, and they were nothing special (try going to Onze!); the prosecco I ordered was in fact an Asti (so too sweet); and the desserts were nothing to write home (or Google) about.

Very nice people and some lovely dishes Salmon fillet on stone and meat kebab contain mixed meats and chicken and pineapple on skewer. Hamburgers are tasty but not so keen on the roast lamb in creamed mint sauce. This was a dish meal that came out very tough slices in a puddle of sauce. But that is only my opinion. Still recommend the place but book if summer season.

I don't know about the other dishes but the seafood in this place is authentic and exceptional, it is to die for. There was a bit of wait but it is worth every second. I would contradict some of the reviews saying the food was bland. The place caters great Portugese food - not food over flavour and adjusted to suit Indian curry and Turkish kebab lovers. Everything was beautiful.

The food here is absolutely incredible, my husband had steak on a stone and he was very impressed he said it was the best steak he has ever had, and the kebab I had was amazing

Deicious food and lovely atmosphere. Not a huge choice for vegetarians but at least there was some - unlike quite a few places we've seen so far. We had steak, sea bass, chicken & pineapple kebab and penne in a tomato sauce. All were excellent.
Update: Second visit a week later. Excellent again. They prepared a vegetable kebab for my vegetarian daughter even though it's not on the menu. Thank you.
