Cozy, small and quiet place. It’s so simple and yet chic, well taken care of. With old classy villa nearby to have afternoon tee at. Overall great experience if you like this type of places

37 bus gets there from central funchal, sorta hourly on a Sunday but check the timetable. 15mins trip. Very steep uphill. Lovely gardens with tea rooms at the bottom. The Lady Garden was sublime. We went on a rainy day, was very atmospheric.

Huge garden. You don't know what will be at the next corner. Very complex. 2024 mid jan blossoming plants which I noticed: Michelia/Magnolia doltsopa, Telopea speciossima, Protea cynaroides, Banksia coccinea and integrifolia, Crotalaria semperflorens, Sparmannia africana, Strelitia nicolai and reginae, Aenium areoreum.
I saw a brave Madeira wood pigeon which ate the Davidia involucrata's winter fruit. Other fantastic and jaw-dropping plants: Huge Araucaria angustifolia, bidvilii, exelsa, Cedrus brevifolia and atlantica var.glauca, Washingtonia robustra, Furcraea parmentieri, Pinus patula ,Cinnamomum camphora and leafless Liliodendron tulipifera. Also attractive with dried spikey fruitpeeled tree was Banksia serrata and nearly blossoming was Saurauia napaulensis. Phormium flax and a variation which was "Yellow wave" were also spectacular. Enjoy all. Come to visit. Highly recommended.

Amazing gardens with plenty of space for relax and walking, you can easily get to there from Funchal using the local bus

Enchanted place, a little in disrepair, which makes it more interesting. Be careful at the teahouse, a bit pricey.
Only 5 other visitors on a sunday, had the place to us

Really beautiful and chill, no crowds, enough parking for everyone. The tea house does really good coffee (a rarity in Madeira).

A huge romantic garden either with endemic species or Asian, Australian, African and American plants as well. Long paths to wander and well planned flower gardens to have a rest on a bench. The tea house has nice variety of cookies and good coffee. The views on Funchal is amazing!!!

Lovely large gardens, with great views across Funchal. Very well maintained and impressive range of plants and trees. There is a tea house with good choice of drinks. Cost to get in was €10 per person. Definitely worth a visit.

Magical place!
So breathtakingly beautiful and peaceful.
The plants are so interesting, the views to the city are amazing.
There's also a very adorable and gorgeous tea house with tasty cakes, pasteries, and ofcourse like the name says, tea.

What a feast for the eyes. This place is sheer paradise. I wanted to stay forever. I felt like I was in England with such glorious trees and scenery. Tip - get Bus 37 from Funchal.

These gardens are beautiful. We’d been to the gardens at Monte and the beautiful flowers here far exceed the display there (Monte does have a great orchid collection). The stars of the show here are the Camellias. The garden also has a great selection of tropical tress, Proteas including some real giants, cyclamen, bottlebrushes. Another highlight is the availability of the great tea room in the gardens which we knew well from our time on the Palheiro golf course next door. The terrace at the hotel also serves a great glass of Madeira with their own Casa Velha cake. Pay $11 and Enter either from the Palheiro Gardens address, the Casa Velha hotel or the tea rooms.

Lovely walk around peaceful gardens. We enjoyed the package entrance which included a glass of wine, custard tart and tea or coffee in the tea house.

Very beautiful gardens. Probably not as big as Monte palace or Funchal’s botanical gardens, but very calm and well designed.

The Palheiro Gardens are part of the Palheiro Estates that belong to the famous Blandy family in Madeira. These gardens are around 13 km east of Funchal, high atop a hill. Arranged somewhere between a pretty, cottage-like English garden and a formal French park, they are well-maintained and contain the largest variety of plants and trees of the gardens on the island. A lot of thought has gone into the landscaping and planting. Great for a casual stroll or a more formal botanical tour. A must for all garden buffs. The tea house offers good snacks at reasonable prices.
