Funchal-Monte Cable Car

Buying tickets on the spot is not that bad. We waited like 10 min maybe, they are very organized and the lines go fast. The cable car ride is beautiful, you can see all Funchal from above. Recomand to take cable car if you visit the Botanical gardens. Easier way to get there from the seafront

Don't miss it. It takes you to 2 beautiful gardens (tropical and botanical gardens but a 2nd cable car goes to the latter from the end of the 1st one). Don't let you be cheated by some taxi drivers at the departure point of the cable car saying that it's much cheaper if they take you to the top first instead of taking the cable car.

This is a great ride. You have an amazing view of the city and forest around you. The cars are being maintained properly and are in good condition. The ride was smooth and there was no line to wait.

Worth a visit. Even though it's a tourist trap.

Riding the cable cars is an absolutely must! The views are amazing! The equipment and facilities are very modern and efficient. Our group of 3 was paired with 2-3 more people on each voyage. The cars are roomy and easily accommodated this.

Park your car on the Monte, go dawn, visit the city, and afternoon goes back so you don't have to wait 1 hour for the cable car and don't have to wait for the Toboggan sledge...

We took the cable car up from the botanical garden to Monte and then down to Funchal. We were going against the popular flow of traffic for the time of day (11 am) so while our car was mostly empty the cars coming up were absolutely packed and there was a decent line at the bottom in Funchal

Wonderful view on Funchal from the cable cars, expect to wait for approximately 30 mins before boarding. If you are visiting the botanical gardens allow at least 2 hours to enjoy the spectacular gardens.

Going there is worth the price paid (around 16EUR one-way). Really nice trip up the city, landing on Monte where you can visit the church, garden, relax a bit and then go back using tobogan. Might be than tobogans are not available, but there is always an info about this given by stuff on lower station.

Stunning views, the ideal route to check out both cable cars is this:
1. Botanic Garden
2. Cable car to the top.
3. Coffee, snacks, refreshments at the top (there are terraces, bars, and even a cute church)
4. Cable car from the top (different route) to Funchal centre)

Wow! It's a must-do in Funchal. It's a good 15-min ride ( yes! 15 mins!) And The views are fantastic.

Good price, beautiful view. The top car park is free, but very challenging to drive up there, very deep slope and narrow road.

its €12,50 one way and €18 return. Last ride from down os 17:45 hrs.

If you do not mind walking or experiencing the view on your feet, I recommend going one way on foot and one way by this amazing lift. We walked up and enjoyed small pathways and roads and then just right before sunset, we took the lift back down. It has wonderful views and takes about 15 minutes so it can sink in.
