If you’re looking for a pretty nice place in Funchal center, with typical Portuguese cuisine and fine dining that’s the right place.
Since the beginning the staff was really friendly and even though we didn’t speak the same language, they were very patient and fulfilled all our vegetarian/gluten free wishes. Complimentary starter and delicious local wine. Good quality food and fair price.

The food was absolutely delicious, but what really made me write this review is the incredible kindness of the staff. We arrived late to our reservation and they stayed open almost 40 minutes more after their closing times just to let us enjoy our food and wine without any rush. We have been served by a short haired woman that was incredibly nice and made the whole experience an absolute 10/10! Thank youu!!

ComTradições is a hidden gem! After trying their delightful dessert, we couldn’t resist returning for dinner. The cozy ambiance and welcoming staff made us feel at home. The starters were beautifully presented and incredibly tasty – the toast with mackerel and octopus carpaccio were exceptional. The main course, the perfectly cooked tuna, was outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable dining experience!

Very good and attentive service! They had bread with homemade butter and a little fish ball complementary at the start. The tuna steak was incredibly good and I'd definitely order it again.

Unfortunately cannot give me 10 out of 5. Came here twice and loved both time. The t-bone was out of this world delicious, huge, seasoning on point. The octopus was banging too, and for the first time in like ever I got 4 tentacles. Deliciousness. We also tried the chocolate mousse and it had a hint of orange which tasted like terrys chocolate!

ComTradições is an exceptional restaurant that has left us completely in awe of its culinary prowess. From the moment we stepped foot into this charming establishment in Funchal, we knew we were in for a remarkable dining experience. We had the pleasure of indulging in their delectable starters, including the octopus and shrimps, which were nothing short of amazing.

The octopus was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, while the shrimps were succulent and had a delightful hint of seasoning that complemented their natural sweetness. Each bite was a burst of flavors that tantalized our taste buds and left us craving for more.

Moving on to the main course, we both decided to try their mouthwatering steak, and boy, were we impressed! The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, tender and juicy, with a beautiful charred exterior that added a smoky richness to each bite. The accompanying sides were expertly prepared, further enhancing the overall experience. It was clear that the chefs at ComTradições have an incredible understanding of flavors and know how to bring out the best in every ingredient.

Aside from the outstanding food, the ambiance of the restaurant was equally delightful. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, coupled with the attentive and friendly staff, made us feel right at home.

In conclusion, we cannot recommend ComTradições enough to anyone visiting Funchal. Whether you're a seafood lover or a steak aficionado, this restaurant will exceed your expectations. With their impeccable dishes, warm ambiance, and top-notch service, ComTradições is a culinary gem that should not be missed.

Probably the best food i ever tasted. Grilled octopus was out of this world. Cod fish, splendid. Fish soup, have no words. Pasta? Delicious. Desert ? Super tasty! Highly recommand! Thank you for having us!

Large portion, very delicious tastes, and the atmosphere is like you go to your grandparents(=lovely). Absolut 5*! Best food in our tour. Next time, we start here.

Very nice, cozy place with extremely kind staff (older ladies as if they were our mamas serving their own home-made meals :-)). Complimentary starters and recommendations of the day. The codfish, home specialty, was delicious, as was also the tuna steak and the grilled octopus. Nice place, tourists are not fed here by cheap meals, but by local quality.

This restaurant is fabulous. The service was attentive and so friendly, and the food was 5 star. The surroundings were light and airy and very pristine, I wouldn't hesitate recommending This stunning little gem!

I have only good things to say about this restaurant. We stumbled upon it when walking around the old town in Funchal. It was already fully booked but they managed to fit us in at last. They were so nice and welcoming. They walked us through the whole menu. They gave us two rounds of on the house appetizers, one better than the other. 🤩🤩🤩
My parents had the tuna steak, and it was the best fish steak we have ever had.
We stayed in Madeira for whole week but found this restaurant only on the 5th day:((

It feels like dining with the family and eating the food prepared by grandma - full of love, passion and taste. Amazing wines selection and atmosphere. Absolutely one of the best places in the whole Madeira Island to dine and feel welcome.

The food was delicious, really tasty. The service was good, the staff spoke excellent English and were helpful in choosing what to eat. I had the beef kebab, my partner had the clam, shrimp and fish stew. The whole place was beautifully clean.

Amazing food! As the only vegetarian in the group, this was the best meal I have had in Madeira! Fabulous option for vegetarian meals whilst still amazing options for meat and fish eaters!

The food was amazing! Well prepared and nicely served. When eating here they had a menu a la carte but also some daily specials, like fresh tuna from the grill or as tartar.

Great experience! Note that it is good to make a reservation if you want to sit outside.

Stopped here for dinner. The food was very tasty, and seemed more authentic than some of the other restaurants, which all seem to offer very similar dishes. The service was a bit disorganised, (it was Valentine's Day so it was busy) but the staff were friendly and happy to explain the dishes to us. The starter of sausage and quail egg seemed expensive for 2 thin slices of sausage and 2 eggs, but the mains, drinks and desserts were all good value. Everything was very tasty, and it was nice to get some bread at the start. A good place for a slightly better quality meal.

A very nice little restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. We had the special menu: beef chops and tuna steak. Both where very delicous including the mouse au chocolat as a dessert.

Extraordinary dishes, very nice and friendly staff, a lot of attention to details overall. We had the octopus, which was perfectly cooked (*chef’s kiss*). The deserts are absolutely delicious. You can count on the staff for good recommendations, we were more than delighted with them. For sure a restaurant at the top of our list.
