The Nuns Path hiking route (end)

Lovely short but steep hike, with great views of the valley along the way.

We took this trail down from eira do serrado (started from just outside the tunnel via the abandoned road to the top).

Path is uneven but wide and has rope fencing on some of the more exposed parts.

I would definitely recommend starting from the top as it is far more enjoyable. Beautiful steep path down the mountain with breathtaking panoramas on each step

Take bus 81 from Funchal, get off near Eira Do Serrado viewpoint and then walk down to the Curral Das Freiras where you can catch the bus back to Funchal. It's an easy downhill walk with fantastic views across the valley. There are lots of more sophisticated and difficult paths around the Valley Of Nuns (Encaminada Do Rey, for example), but if you're not an experienced hiker - this is the easiest alternative.

Did this route with my parents (50+&60+, both with leg and hip problems). Went uphill (1.5 hours) and downhill (1 hour) with walking sticks.
Highly recommended to go early in the morning from the village up, so you can walk in the shades.
(When you go downhill, you will only pay attention to your feet due to the steepness and rough paths)

Easier than expected (I hike often). Less than an hour to reach the top.

Beautiful walk from Eira do Serrado, walk to the centre of the town visit the church and have a coffe in the many places.

Szlak nie jest trudny, ale przygotujcie się, że przez godzinę będziecie schodzić cały czas w dół, praktycznie bez żadnego fragmentu wyplaszczenia. Wasze kolana dostaną nieźle w kość. My schodziliśmy do wioski z punktu widokowego, ale można oczywiście iść w drugą stronę, tyle że wtedy idziecie cały czas pod górę. Alternatywą jest autobus, którym można dojechać z wioski na punkt widokowy (i odwrotnie). Linia 81

Super szlak na górskie wędrówki mega widoki na Dolinę Zakonnic można wjechać na górę autobusem Taxi i zejść szlakiem. Albo dojechać do Doliny Zakonnic i wejść na górę ale stanowczo polecam zejście jest ciekawsze miej męczące i widoki zapierają dech w piersi. Przyroda malownicza i różnorodna gorąco polecam tę trasę.

Piękny i łatwy szlak dla osób, które chciałyby spojrzeć na Dolinę Zakonnic z nieco innej perspektywy. Wystarczy poświęcić jedną lub dwie godziny, a naszym oczom ukaże się niesamowity widok Doliny, który poszerza się z każdym pokonanym metrem. Polecam!!

Diese Wanderung startet entweder oben am Hotel und endet unten an der Strasse im nonnental, oder umgekehrt.
Wer von oben wandert runter zum Ort: Curral das Freiras kann dort den Linienbus wieder hoch nehmen.

Wer wie wir unten startet und den gleichen Weg auch wieder runter nimmt, sollte darauf achten das der untere Einstieg/Ausgang verlegt wurde.
Der alte Zugang ist mittlerweile gesperrt worden, wegen Felsrutsch. Der neue Eingang befindet sich nur ca 50 Meter weiter hinab die Strasse !

Die Wanderung ist etwas mühsam, da es unentwegt Bergauf geht. Wer bis zum Hotel hoch möchte überwindet über 400 Höhenmeter.
Der Weg schlängelt sich immer am Berghang entlang und man bekommt super schöne Aussichten ins Nonnental und auf den Ort: Curral das Freiras.

Oben am Hotel angekommen kann man einen weiteren kurzen Weg hoch auf einen weiteren Aussichtspunkt machen und danach sich eine schöne Pause mit Getränken und Speisen gönnen am Hotel mit Imbiss/Ausschank.

Magnifico sito per il trekking. Sentiero curatissimo. Spettacolari alberi d'alto fusto. Profusione di fiori di tutti i colori e bombi che gli ronzano attorno.
