Restaurante e Fado - São Rafael

Walked by this place a few times before coming for dinner. Decided to sit down because it was busy and live music with a wonderful singer. Started with White House wine and mussels. They were big and meaty with an excellent sauce. Wife loved her Dorado and the traditional mixed seafood stew for me. The portion was more than I expected. Left feeling full and very satisfied with the experience. Food is life. Thank you.

The codfish and Sardines were amazing. Tasty and well cooked.
The starter with fried codfish was amazing as well. Make sure to try homemade green wine of theirs.

The environment and vibe is amazing. You have the fado music performance and lovely atmosphere. Everything about it was great. The staff are very friendly and you have a big menu with alot of options to choose from.

It is a traditional Portuguese place and everything looks local from our perspective.

Recommend it and will visit it next time.

We went after our tuktuk driver recommended this place and we had to go twice! It was that good and worth the money! Big portions and great fado music. The only downside is tye first time a waiter or owner was a bit rude to us, but still gave it a second shot and the 2nd time round he was not there and they were so kind!
Some plates feed 2 people instead of one. Loved it. The dish in the picture is chopped bull! Amazinh

The appetizer of Bacalhau codfish breaded bites were great. Order of Bacalhau de Natas pasta dish came with a small salad. All was delicious. Price was good and server was kind and spoke good English. Fado was 10/10- outstanding.

Apparently a lot of people were not happy with this restaurant, but we came here 2 times and hat a marvellous time. We saw 4 different Fado singers, both inside and outside giving us their very best. The food was tasty, quickly and well served. We particularly liked the traditinal mixed seafood dish. Furthermore the food is less expensive than other Fado restaurants and they served us double size Beirao. We hope you will have a good time here, just like we did.

For our last night in Lisbon, one of our guides suggested this place for dinner and fado since we were looking for a more casual and spontaneous evening. We’re so glad we came here. Big portions of really tasty food (roast chicken and bacalao a bras), and live music.

We got the mixed grill, seafood rice and sangria. All lovely. Waiting staff were accommodating. Fado music played live was awesome!

I have passed this restaurants many times because almost every time you can hear Fado there and is well positioned in Alfama. Initially I avoided it because I do not particularly like when I am approached by someone to enter their place.

However, the experience was actually great. The food was way more and better than expected, great service and also, Fado :) Good prices too!

We ordered a portion of Sardines and one of Frango Asado. They were also generous with my cup of Vinho Verde.

I enjoyed diner here as a tourist just passing by, on a Tuesday evening 29 november 2022. There were few other guests, but still two guitarists and a singer were playing Fado music, truly authentic, as was their fantastic fish stew, à 15 euro. I tasted two large glasses of equally great wines, the standard white and the red, and ate a lovely Portuguese desert. The service was excellent, they didn't mind at all that I misplaced my glass on the wide table paper and broke it, and the waiter brought me a newly filled glass instead! I only wish I had had more company to share this great restaurant experience with and talk, drink, listen and eat together the whole evening.

Excellent, tasty food with generous portions wonderful & moving Fado singers, quick and friendly service, definitely a place we'd eat again. Highly recommend!

The Fado music was in credible. The food delicious and big portions with fare prices. If sitting outside can be a nice experience

Amazing food!!! Mixed fish for 1 is enough for 2 ! Sopa di Bacalaho is an amazing value for money with plenty of fish inside.
Salad and fish are perfectly seasoned and you don’t need to add any salt nor aceto.

Fado was the true one (5 people changing, all better than the other). It was amazing, as I accidentally paid 25 euros for some Fado experience in a winery called Calem in Porto (don’t do that, it’s not worth it).

Also, go for the VINHO DE CASA - amazing wine :)))

Btw, the sitting on the steep hill is part of the charm, don’t be bitter!

Very welcoming service and nice seagood platters with codd, mussels, shrimps, salmon, octopus and more. Really, really good. Live Fado Music on top.

Small but cozy place, the meal is delicious and generous. Different types of drink. Just check your change before you leave, the place is very busy.

Loved the atmosphere, and the male and female Fado. Staff were wonderful and never felt rushed..food was delicious

Despite some of the negative reviews we went here because of the original Fado music. They took a break every 15/20 minutes but they also started playing again in 10 minutes. The host was speaking a bit English but he was trying at least. The food was ok and the (green) wine was good.

Great music. Big portion. We took mix grilled fish and was great. Seat not comfortable but you can see it before to try. For not coriander lover, be careful, Portuguese cousins abundance about it. Quality/price 5 star deserved

Amazing hidden gem. Didn’t expect to find this place at all and then we stumbled into this original restaurant. We were surrounded by locals and they were playing fado music all night. Everyone, including me, took a part in singing for a while with the band. At first I thought it was rude, but they encouraged me, and I thought „oh well, I might give sth back towards this amazing hospitality“. Food was excellent, allthough next time I would prefer a good amount of more oil. Waiter was one of a kind. His attentiveness beyond amazing. Definitely ask for José, he will take care of you as you are family!
