Has a great view on its small balcony right beneath the big stained glass window. Inside are interesting artifacts which are all related to Christianity and the Catholic Church. The stained glass and the depiction of saints on the first floor are beautiful. Has a whole museum upstairs which you can buy a ticket to visit, it contains the artifacts, you can also go up to the balcony with the same ticket. A small part of the downstairs can be visited without the ticket but I would still buy a ticket for this, as it would just be a regular church experience without the ticket. We could not get the student discount since we were not Portuguese students, the price was still reasonable though.

Visiting the Lisbon Cathedral means traveling through 800 years of history. From the high choir to the main chapel, from the central nave to the ambulatory with its radiant chapels, passing through the baptistry or the Patriarch's dressing room, it is worth discovering every corner of this building of undeniable historical, architectural, religious and spiritual value. Get to know some of the most important spaces in the Cathedral.

From the outside, the cathedral looks really boring. But inside it is really beautiful and full of history. I recommend visiting, the entrance costs about €5.

Historic landmark you need to visit while in Lisbon! It is bustling with tourists so go early in the day. It's not a very tall structure so it's accessible for most but keep in mind there is no elevator.

You don't have to pay to enter, but paying for access gives you entrance to whole Cathedral as well as the upstairs level. It's too bad pictures are not allowed in the museum / artifact area. Oh well I guess you will have to check it for yourself!

Amazing cathedral!

Its very pretty inside, with amazing stained glass.

The entrance costs 4 euro and it includes the little museum that is upstairs.

Its a must when visiting Lisbon since its one of the most famous landmarks in the city.

Very iconic.

Very glad to have visited this historic church in Lisbon. 5 euro ticket at entrance however I do believe it is included if you purchase the Lisboa City pass which includes many other museums and attractions.

The Lisbon Cathedral, also called Sé de Lisbon and the Cathedral of Saint Mary Major, is the oldest church in Lisbon. It was partially destroyed in the 1755 earthquake and later underwent major renovations. On a visit to the cathedral, there are a few things to see and do.

From the upper outdoor balcony, you get a slightly elevated view over the city streets (it is worth a quick look but there are much better viewpoints of the city, as you will see later in this guide). The Treasury contains religious artifacts (photography is not allowed here). Inside of the cathedral, see the nave and walk the Gothic hallways to see the small chapels and stained-glass windows. Outside, watch as Tram 28 makes its uphill journey through the city, making this one of the most iconic spots to photograph this historic tram.

A wonderful and magnificent cathedral dedicated to St Vincent. It has many amal altars. It is here St Antony was baptized. It has a museum on the upper level with many vestments and other religious items. Further renovation works are going on. After an earthquake in the 1770s the church was rebuilt in its original place. A must visit in Lisbon

Good 12th century cathedral to view along with the castle & the complete sea area. Constructed well & you will appreciate this was built in 12th century. Be prepared to walk around a km from metro or get the tram. There are good shops and restaurants nearby to spend some time around it.

Paid €2.50 adult to enter the cloisters. There are steep steps up to the exhibits on the first floor showing the clothing of years gone by amongst other things. You can head out onto the balcony at the front of the cathedral and get good views over the square and a beautiful overview of the interior with the Romanesque arches and the stained glass rose window. Enjoyed wandering around the transept with vaulted arches and looking at more of the colourful stained glass windows.

This catedral better known as Sé do Lisboa can really take you back in time and show you spirit of old Lisbon in place were Alfama and Bario Alto meet each other just up from Atlantic ocean.

Stunningly ornate and worthy of a visit. This one may be worth paying a guide to take you through. I did not have a guide, but overheard one giving much more detail than I had gotten.

This is the oldest cathedral in Lisbon and it doesn’t disappoint. Beautiful artwork and it just is breathtaking to view. I snapped a lot of pictures all around it. Of course the scenery is just wonderful everywhere you look. There is a little bit of a line going in on some days, but it's usually not too crowded. Remember that while you are allowed to take photos inside, don't use a flash, and respect those who are inside.

Out front of the cathedral you can see a host of history changes in the trams going by on a winding track, as well as a lot of tuk-tuk's parked in front.

Incredible building with good exhibits inside, including wardrobes and old music manuscripts/hymnals.
View from the main floor and the upstairs, with a small balcony overlooking the city and water.
Well worth adding to your agenda. Easy walk down from the castle or the main square

In the colorful neighborhood of Alfama, the birthplace of Fado, lies Sé de Lisboa, the Cathedral of Saint Mary Major, built by Portugal’s first king on the site of an old mosque in 1150 for the city’s first bishop.
Having survived many earthquakes, it has been modified, renovated and restored several times, and thus it now displays a mix of different architectural styles.

Beautiful cathedral with an incredible history, spanning Roman, Islamic and Portuguese times. The castle has been a public utility place, a mosque and now a church.

The views of the Lisbon city and the Atlantic from the 1st floor are incredible and worth the 5 Euro per person fees. The museum is also very good and some good artefacts of the church are kept there.

Must visit from my side in Lisbon.
