We recommend a 1 night stay. We had a great experience. The lunch was really good and while we wouldn’t rate the breakfast the highest, it was still good. I wasn’t feeling well so we couldn’t hold our dinner reservation. The staff helped us with room service. The grilled ham and cheese and tea was good. My husband had the steak sandwich and he loved it and said while simple it was delicious.

The beds and furniture are all antiques so you have to go in appreciating the castle experience and look past other common luxuries from other hotels. We loved it and thought it was an amazingly cool stay. We did the hike up to the top of the mountain. It’s about 1.5 miles uphill - take some water.

It’s a winding mountain drive to get there and to your next location so keep that in mind.

If there is 1 hotel, you need to stay it's this one. You're not only staying in a place, but really feel like a royalty. Exquisite breakfast, romantic atmosphere and of course in the middle of the forest parc, with great trails and the cascade waterfall. Really recommendable !

This is a 5 star review because staff of this hotel went above and beyond when we arrived. My wife had a business conference and we were hoping that she could take it from our room. However, we were informed that WiFi is only available in the lobby and none of the rooms have WiFi. We settled in the lobby with a laptop just to find out that none of our devises can connect. The young lady at the reception was trying to help us, even offering to use her cell phone as a hot spot, but nothing helped. She called for help and eventually assistant manager Joao Roque came to the rescue letting us to connect to their businesses WiFi and a power outlet. This really saved our day and took care of our immediate business needs. Thank you!!!

In retrospect, the hotel is advertised as having free WiFi so we relied on this. Had we known that there is no WiFi in rooms, we would made different arrangements and connected from somewhere else. I wish the hotel had a better description of what to expect.

The hotel is used to be a summer residence of Portuguese kings so you are really staying in a palace. This is very cool. You find a lot of original things and interiors. I could not believe we arrived to a hotel and thought it was a museum even though you park right in front of it and walk into the reception like a museum. We had a dinner at the hotel which was pricey and food was mediocre, although you get to sit down and eat in a royal (presumably) room.

Interesting experience indeed.

Great place to hike and discover each point of the garden.
You can join the premises with your own car paying 6 euros (fair price), or you can join free by bike or walking.
I didn't stay in the hotel, that's the reason that I didn't rate it.

Best staff and service I ever had. Amazing people, very kind and thoughtful.
The hotel is very thematic and history is everywhere; beds and bathrooms are very good, some in a Art Deco style, and other more renovated with marble.
If i was to say something not as good, would be only regarding the food itself, probably a bit expensive for what it is. But again, staff was flawless and absolutely amazing at all time.
Garden felt a little dry for spring, but woods around are gorgeous.
This place is amazing!

Rooms are simple, old style, but clean. The palace is amazing, really well maintained. It brings you to the 18th century. All details of the architecture amazes you and deco inside is a luxury. All around is pure nature.

But what truly sets Bussaco Palace Hotel apart is its unique location. Surrounded by acres of pristine forest, the hotel offers guests a rare opportunity to reconnect with nature and explore the stunning landscape of the Bussaco National Forest. Whether hiking along one of the many trails or simply taking in the breathtaking views, guests will find a sense of peace and tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere.

Very courteous staff. The fruit selection at the breakfast buffet is exceptional. The rooms are not in the best shape but it is a unique experience to stay in this hotel.

Tiled stories in pictures in it's glorious cobalt blue depict tales about the ocean monsters and conquest in 17th century.

Wooden paneling on the ceiling and intricate facade with a lot of details are simply amazing. The garden is a spectacle in itself.

Castle - hotel worthy of visiting (and the adjoint nature park as well.

A wonderful, life time experience. You can't stop taking photos! The bedrooms were large and they gave us fans as it was a very hot spell but the forest still cooled nicely at night. The bedrooms are dated but it's like sleeping in the era, and loved the monogrammed, crispy cotton sheets and big bathroom. It's like visiting a stately Portuguese home but you get fab gin & tonics and stay! The gardens and surrounding National Park are a lovely walk and the Monastery was worth a visit. And it was out best dinner and breakfast in Portugal with lovely attentive staff. Just do it!

Great, great location. Fantastic folly, beautiful surroundings. Room not large but with a fantastic terrace and view. Only the missing soundproofing and the overpriced restaurant let the place down.

The restaurant is really beautiful, feels like I'm dining in the a fairy tale, however, the food and service is mediocre in terms of theie tastes and plating. I'd just have a drink there next time.

Wonderful stay. Beautiful hotel. Great staff. Special thanks to Micaela who gave us the history of the Palace and answered all of our questions. I recommend visiting the Convento next door as well. Strongly recommend staying here.

The palace itself is overwhelmingly beautiful. The surrounding gardens and park need a bit more care, some of the viewpoints are partially obstructed and the french garden by the palace would need some weed control.
The rooms need extra attention. The furniture needs some varnishing redone and the cracks in the walls should be fixed too. Wifi in the reception is not sufficient, and that shouldn't be much of a problem to fix. At times the rooms can seem noisy, but it has to do with the isolation of the rooms when the place was built.
The food was delicious, just wished the portions were a bit bigger. The wines were perfect.

Highly recommended! The hotel’s historic charm, grandeur and character more than make up for the lack of some modern amenities like a pool and air conditioning. Stay here to feel royal for while, and walk the many paths of the beautiful surrounding woods, dotted with ancient trees and various smaller buildings.

Unbelievable place.
The history from the place the atmosphere, the knowledge and sympathy from staff. The smiles.
The stay room and the bar are really a good place to relax from the walk in the luxuriant bush.

Really nice hotel with beautiful history behind it. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The garden and fountain are fantastic and definitely Instagram worthy. The breakfast was on the basic side and didn’t have much to choose from but if you’re only looking for eggs/ham/granola/fruits/coffee then this is a good place to enjoy your morning.
