Man this hike was amazing! The best part was doing it with our guide Nelson who was the owner of the fruit stand you pass to get onto this trail in Mato Ahogado. I highly recommend asking him to take you as he is an amazing guide and does his best to keep you entertained and motivated. The hike itself is wondrous! All uphill and so beautiful! There is not much parking and it is kind of isolated so bring a 4 by 4. There is barely anyone on the trail so you will feel connected to your roots😉. Definitely reccomend people to come here!

It would be best to take a bus from Anton. We drove a sedan up, I do not recommend this at all because the road is very narrow and steep. Many potholes and blind corners around curves. Trailhead is unmarked, very steep and rocky most of the way up. As you get further up you will encounter mud and dense vegetation. Saw some snakes on the way up also

Views from the top are breathtaking, took close to 2 hours.

Amaziiiing hike! We took the taxi for 15$ from Valle de Anton to the beginning of the trail (which is not marked). Shortly after we started we met 1 more tourist coming down. That was literally the only person we met for the whole hike. The first part of the hike is the steepest one and make sure to apply enough sunscreen since there is very little shadow. Once you reach the first gate the path goes through the forest and especially if you hike in a rainy season you need to watch out for snakes (warning from our taxi driver). We didn't see any during our hike though. Then you reach 2 more gates. After the 3rd gate the stairs start. This is also the place with the private property, no entrance sign, but like in many other reviews we also ignored it since all 3 gates were open. We loved this last part of the hike. The nature is amazing and untouched. There is a super nice platform at the top. We spent around 1.5 hrs taking pics and enjoying the views. We returned by local bus (1$/person) from los Pinos station, which is a few hundreds meters away from the start of the trail. The bus takes a lot of time to arrive, so you can also walk around 1km to Mato Ahogado station and take the bus from there.

This place is not as hard to get to as some people make it - from Anton Valley take a bus that goes to Mata Ahogado and stay until the very last stop, you can also tell the bus driver what your destination is. You can get back to town using the same bus. Start of the trail isn't super well marked, but you can ask the locals (trekking navigation maps will also show you where it is). The trek itself isn't hard or super long, but can be steep, especially at the beginning. It's also muddy, so I'd imagine it might be tricky during / after rain. Close to the stairs there's a sign saying that it's a private property. Other hikers simply ignored it so we did the same, but something to keep in mind. The views from the top are spectacular. The wooden platform over the greenery is something else.

This is a difficult place to get to but well worth the effort. One of the best and most unique views I've ever experienced. Be warned, the roads are steep if not impossible without a serious off-road vehicle. Our rental SUV could not make it so we parked it near the approach road and walked up to the trail-head (I have no idea if this is allowed or not). Not a difficult trail, but it is exciting and interesting - lots of concrete steps that turn to wood stairs at the end. Some steps are missing so be careful. The view is magnificent and well worth it!

It was amazing, the view was really beautiful. We had information, that the stairs are private, but there was no problem to go further (maybe we were just lucky).
