Under restoration as I am writing this.
This site was a formerly a two roofed edifice before being partially destroyed during the earthquake of 1833, not restored and then fully destroyed in the earthquake of 1934. This temple houses Narasingha and his consort. Narasingha is a half lion half man deity of the Hindu pantheon and an incarnation of the divine Narayana (also called Vishnu). Together with his consort Lakshmi, the couple is believed by the locals to ward off evil and strength oneself. This temple was first commissioned by Raja Jayastithi Malla in the 14th century and later shifted to higher ground by Ganga Rani in the early 16th century to prevent it from being damaged by the chariot of Bhaila dyo.

A closer look at these magnificent pieces of art makes it clear that they are idols of a “creature” that is half man and half lion. Clearly in Nepali, nara means man and simha means lion. These statues of Narasimha are found all over Kathmandu valley. Among them this one is locate at Bhaktapur🤗
