An interesting museum covering the history of the city to the modern day. Plenty of interactive displays to view.

Very cool. Good introduction to Utrecht. Wonderfully engaging way of presenting history.

Just an amazing expo. You can really tell the people care about the history and presenting it in an approchable and enjoyable way.

'Utrecht on Film 1920-1980' is a very nice exhibition and absolutely worth seeing. Especially if you know the city it is great (and sometimes shocking) to see how it looked so many years ago. Utrecht is well documented by its citizens over the years. Some of them have been really creative too, making mini featurettes on 8mm.
The Utrecht Archive is located in the remains of the former Abbey of St. Paul (Paulusabdij) which was founded around 1050. The museumshop has a good selection of books and postcards. Very friendly staff is helpful and happy to tell you all that you want to know.

Very interesting cultural centre at an unbeatable price compared to the museums around. You’ll be able to learn quite a lot about Utrecht and there are many interactive activities.
The only drawback is that some recordings are only available in Dutch, but I’d quite recommend a visit especially on days with bad weather.

I loved it even though it was all in Dutch, no english translations but the set up was different, felt like your exploring rather then being in a museum

Better than expected. We were impressed by the way the information is presented about the history of Utrecht in this museum: so many interactive and digitalised activities. You can literally play around and learn interesting stuff about the city over there. Definitely recommend!

We visited during the Utrecht On Film exhibition > SUPER interesting to see the historical footage of Utrecht, (especially if you know the city).
Will go back soon to see the permanent exhibition.

Brilliant museum - a lot more fun than you might expect of an archive. I particularly enjoyed the divorce booth and the coach ride.

Went to see an photograph exhibition of utrecht city life of the first half of the 20th century. Amazing!

Super place to visit!

Dit archief is meer dan een bezoek waard. Je komt er binnen met de museumpas. De animatiefilm in de eerste ruimte is heel aangenaam. De daaropvolgende ruimtes bieden een degelijk en gevarieerd overzicht van de verschillende aspecten van Utrecht. We werden onthaald door een vriendelijke en hulpvaardige medewerker.

Best wel leuke museum (als je in geschiedenis geïnteresseerd bent). Er zijn enkele bijzondere virtuele belevenissen, bijv. een koetsrit langs de in de Franse oorlog verwoeste huizen, een rit met de fiets door het centrum van Utrecht en een bezoek aan de wijnkelder met een geest van een monnik. Echt leuk gedaan en kost maar 3.50 Euro.

Familie wilde eerst niet (“een archief, wat saai!”) maar bij het vertrek was dat helemaal omgeslagen (“niet gedacht dat dit zo leuk was”) :-)
De openingsfilm is heel mooi gemaakt, vakwerk. En verder veel te zien en leren over Utrecht. Aanrader!

Als student heb ik hier de brieven mogen bekijken van Belle van Zuilen. Het was een hele beleving om onderzoek te doen in het archief!

Alleen de animatie die je bij de entree te zien krijgt, is de entree (2,50pp) al meer dan waard. Prachtig in elkaar gezet. Als je dan doorloopt, kom je langs een mooi stuk interactieve geschiedenis van o.a. het ontstaan van utrecht, de mooie en minder mooie kanten van de geschiedenis en kan je een stukje door de stad heen fietsen. Beneden is tenslotte nog een prachtige tentoonstelling die je echt meeneemt in het rampjaar 1672. Echt dubbel en dwars een bezoek waard!
