Most comfortable in the Malaysia, give you a clamping feel but with aircond, even in different state, you can feel family kind of service

One of the best hostels I have ever been to. So much attention to detail, creative, well executed and yet completely functional features. The tents are very cozy and provide not only privacy but also a rather unique hostel experience. Ah Zhi is super friendly and pleasant to talk to, a true host. Keep up the good work!

Excellent hostel! First time I sleep in an indoor tent and honestly I loved it. You have your own space and privacy. All was clean and neat. The best, however, was the attention to detail. This is a well design hostel, it has everything you need from the tent (switches, light, fan), to the bathrooms (good heaters, towels, soap, dryer) and the kitchen (whatever you need to cook) and on top of that... it's cool! Modern design with old/recicled stuff. About the staff, Zhi was super helpful giving me directions to restaurants and helping me plan my next trip. So far, one of the top hostels in my 5 months travel. Congratulations!

WOW this place is amazing!!! The decor is kinda hippy/vintage, everything is spotless clean and brand new! The dorm room has strong AC and you get your own tent with a comfy bed, fan, lamp and earplugs to help you sleep at night . There's also a simple but delicious complimentary breakfast that the owner picks up every morning for the guests.

The hostel is located right in the city center, very close to the landmarks, so you can walk or grab your way through the city on the cheap.

Brian, the owner, is very kind and helpful, and will do everything he can to help you during your stay. My wife and I usually avoid hostels, but this was an amazing experience.

Highly recommended!

10 out of 10 recommending Hostel Ah Wai, Ah Zhi to anyone visiting and staying in Alor Setar. I stayed at their Goldsmith room for 1 night. For the price I paid, it's definitely worth it. Ah Zhi, the owner, is very kind and hospitable. The kitchen, toilet, and the facilities are made from recyclable materials. The place itself is aesthetically pleasing. 100% will be staying here again if I am in Alor Setar.

One of my best experiences in Malaysia for sure. Brand new and well planned. There is one dorm for like 10 people BUT everybody has its own tent inside this room! Every tent got wall outlets, a light and a fan. They even provide earplugs due to the close by street, though I did not need them. Three showers, so no need to enqueue. Free water/tea/coffee and sweets are provided. They offer a list of different breakfast options, including local breakfast dishes which are freshly fetched from the market. They also have a laundry machine, a fridge and some games in the common space. The owner, Bryan, is extremely friendly and helpful and provided me with a lot of good information. I cannot recommend this place enough! As it is really new they don't have a proper sign in front so just trust Google Maps ;)

This is my 1st time staying in this kind of place and it was really interesting with a great experience. The place itself are comfy, beautiful, antique. If you went to the shower, you will notice something so unique at the sink. The tent is really nice and comfy. Have an earplug if you want to wear at night bcoz the place are just next to the road. The kitchen are simple. Still like it. There is few games that we can play in a team. I like it. Will do come here with my friends.

One of the best hostels I have stayed, featuring tents in a big warehouse. Located in the middle of the city. Well functioning AC and hot shower. Impeccably clean. Super friendly and talkative owners who cook your breakfast and introduce you about Malaysia.

Unique places to stay ❤
Zhi is one of the most caring hosts I ever met. There are so many details that make this hostel so special: the privacy in your tent, the local breakfast, the kopi, the mosquito-coils during nighttime, the towel - yes, I really love the towel, the decoration and so on and on and on...

(Edited review due to grammatical errors, stayed in the hostel in October 2019.)

I stayed in a few hostels around Europe while travelling, but I must say Hostel Ah Wai, Hostel Ah Zhi was one of the best hostels I've ever been. And it's in Alor Setar, Kedah of all places! Zhi herself welcomed me and she was very nice and so helpful. The hostel was clean and cosy with the vintage vibe. It was such a unique and exciting experience to sleep in a tent indoor. The hostel was also within walking distance to the tourist attractions such as the murals of Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Dr Mahathir, Pekan Rabu, Balai Seni Negeri Kedah, Muzium Diraja, Masjid Zahir (to name a few). If I visit Alor Setar in the future I will definitely stay here again. Thank you for the "glamping" experience!

This place is the BEST place to stay in Alor Setar if you want a place that is packed full of culture and history and not a run of the mill characterless room. We were a family of two adults and two children and it was a comfortable stay. The tents have very comfortable beds and have a light, a fan and an adapter for all your charging needs. The hosts are super friendly and keep in touch via WhatsApp to make sure all your needs are taken care of. The price is such good value as they provide tea, coffee, bread, jams, and a nasi lemak is provided for breakfast too. Plus we were able to wash and dry our clothes which was fantastic. For anyone who is not sure about the shared bathroom concept, don't be afraid! The bathrooms are high tech, very very clean and the deco is beautiful....we cannot wait to come back some day soon!!

This is a SOLID boutique hostel located in the heart of Alor Setar's historic commercial district. It has been tastefully converted from a traditional goldsmith shop with elements from its past used as part of its minimalist interior decor. Managed and owned by a dynamic and friendly duo, this place has great potential to be counted among Malaysia's iconic hostel experiences.

Everything is perfect from booking to check-out. Our host, Bryan is helpful and always ready to assist us.
+ The hostel is sparkling clean, towel is provided. It's exactly as advertised.
+ The bed is super comfortable with it's own charging station, reading lights, and small fan. I could lie down all day in the tent.
+ The breakfast is delicious. We had Nasi Lemak, Toast, and coffee.
+Netflix on projector, which is awesome. We watched a Thai horror film together.
+ The natural lights coming in from the roof is so beautiful in the morning.
+The location is very strategic. 5-8 minutes away from Aman Sentral and Masjid Zahir. Bryan gave us a map and links of places to eat and visit in Alor Setar.

What a special & cosy hostel~! I totally love the "old nanyang" + "contemporary" concept of interior design, and sleeping in a tent inside an old shop is literally cool! A perfect choice for my first trip to Alor Setar. ^.^
