Kedah Paddy Museum - 360 panoramic painting of paddy field view. They have revolving stage with 360° mural of top view of Gunung Keriang and Alor Setar landscape and community life painted.
The mural is 8 metres high and 103 metres in length. The painting is the work of 60 North Korean artists who spent 2 years living in nearby villages as part of their pre- mural research and they complete the entire painting within 6 months.
After make payment, they will lead you to spiral staircase that connect to 3rd floor. During the walk, it feel like you are walking inside gunung keriang where you can heard hollow sound of water drop, bat sound and cold breeze. A well done imposter of actual gunung keriang experience. When you reach top level you will surround by the mural of paddy field

Nice to bring your child here and great place to learn about paddy and rice. The exhibitions are quite extensive. They have a platform at the top floor with a 360 degrees diorama, which is very beautifully drawn mural. Entrance fee is RM5. Located in the middle of paddy fields and walking distance from Gunung Keriang.

When I found out that we're going to this museum, I thought this wouldn't be the best use of time during our overnight stay in Alor Setar. I was very wrong. The museum is worth a visit just to experience its panoramic mural. Yes, 'experience', not just view it.
As we enter the museum, we immediately saw a staircase with a sign that said it led to the peak of Gunung Keriang. That confused me. The mountain is opposite the museum. How does the sign make sense? An employee explained that what we would see is "just a painting" that shows the view from the mountaintop.
Nope, it was more than that. Climb the steps and you reach a revolving deck with plenty of seats. The deck inches its way through a 360-turn in maybe less than 20 minutes. And that's the way to appreciate the 103m mural, which covers the entire wall. Sit down and take in all the details.
The mural depicts the various phases of rice cultivation in Kedah and also various aspects of life, sometimes from bygone days, in the state's rice-farming communities. I found it mesmerising. Its scale, technical strengths and sweet earnestness are impressive. There's so much depth, colour and brightness.
Some of the imagery comes across as sentimental and staged, but it didn't bother me because it all seemed so cheerfully done. I later found out that 60 North Korean artists worked on this mural. I think that explains a lot.
My main complaint about this feature is that there should be more help for visitors to understand what they're looking at. I had to dig deep into the fast fading memory of my primary school lessons. Yes, we were taught the basics of rice cultivation in Malaysia back then.
The rest of the museum had a lot of displays relating to rice cultivation, especially in relation to Kedah. It was interesting as well but could have been less static, especially with the aid of multimedia.
If you're in Alor Setar and can spare a couple of hours to learn a thing or two about the importance of rice in Malaysia, get yourself to this museum.

Very nice place to visit, not aware that this place has been there since 2004. It was heavy traffic as we reach there almost 4 pm and closing time is 5 pm. Worth bringing the kids to view the history of padi in Kedah and highlight is at Level 3 whereby to see the panaromic view is really very beautiful

A great place to learn about paddy and rice. The exhibitions are quite extensive. They have a revolving platform at the top floor with a 360 degrees diorama, which is very beautifully drawn mural. Entrance fee is five ringgit. Located in the middle of paddy fields and walking distance from Mount Keriang, it is very windy.
Unfortunately, the day we went the air-con was down and the revolving platform was not working. They have a merchandise store but not much options. Hope the management can rectify this.

If you want to learn more about paddy history in Malaysia and Kedah specifically, this is a place to go.

You can learn a lot about paddy and it end products.

There are many activities you can do here such as playing " coconut bowling " and " dam haji ".

There is also a food truck selling ice cream here. The weather here is very hot and food truck selling ice cream just do a lot of favor for you.

The entrance fee is very cheap. So, there should be no problem if you bring many people to this museum. It is still affordable.

Like many other places, you must pay 50 cents to use toilet here.

Visit Paddy Museum to learn about the paddy plant that produce the staple food of Malaysia, rice. Then I discover the equipments used in processing paddy seed, the rice oriented products such as vermicelli, rice brans and many more. Very enjoyable trip.

Visited second time just to bring my dearest friends from Sabah to appreciate the place. Noticed they have creatively redecorated some of the settings and looks more attractive. Still many school students come by to cherish the legacy of paddy planting. Photos were taken by the museum personnel, for those visitors interested at the revolving top floor with a small fee of RM10 and a free calendar was given (apart from costume photography). I supposed it's for fundraising.

A must-visit place if you’re ever visiting Kedah Darul Aman. Very informative & interesting if you have some knacks for history of paddy plantation in Malaysia & the socioeconomic studies of Malay people especially in Kedah.

The exhibition items seemed well-maintained & the place is also quite huge for wandering around. Not to forget, the fascinating spinning panoramic circle room upstairs which contains a brilliantly painted panoramic picture around it.

The tickets are cheap & good for group visits & activities especially for students.

Excellently curated. Great educational place for both adults and children to visit and learn about the history, technology and facts on the paddy industry. The place is very clean, cool and well-lighted too.
The 360 degree rotating deck from “the top of Mt. Keriang” is an interesting feature to the museum.
I think everyone should visit this place when they come to Alor Setar.

Ticket price up to date is RM5 per head without referring to the nationality. Full of the collections and information that quite interesting.
At the entrance, the guide will inform us to take the stairs heading to the top of the building. The 3D mural painting really amazed me so much, it's look so alive in front of me.
I never share any about the collection and painting but leave it to those who have opportunity visit over here, just experience it yourself, really very worthy.

This place is a good place to show how paddy was made and how hard it is to plant the paddy back in 1800's, tourists should come here, oh and there's a moving platform that showcase the hand painted of the life of people in Kedah, and a lott of history in here, but don't be disappointed as this place is not like the national museum in Malaysia, but its nice to know the paddy history here

The place is situated near Gunu g Keriang. The ticket is RM 3 per pax. There were a lot of rice seed samples from all over the world and products, in addition to the amount of historical records related to the agriculture field of rice. It was a good tourism site, overall.
