This is a good 1 hour hiking trail from the foot of Bukit Jambul Hiking Trail base, for frequent hikers where you can enjoy the flora and fauna, as well as hear the cicada sings. Lots of green and serene and you may even occasionally meet friendly hikers. Make sure you bring along a hiking pike and a good pair of hiking shoes...

Based from BJambul Trail to here. Have many option trail. The regular one for the beginner. Some trail the less people walks and difficulty shall going two persons. Nice birds along the journey. We can claim direct to Bukit Kukus top with going thru Bukit Rimba top.

The hike to Bukit Kukus (426m) near Bukit Jambul will usually take about an hour from the base.

But my hiking buddy Dzaher took us on a longer trail. We took nearly four hours to reach Bukit Kukus.

Time was on our side. So we embarked on a longer trip to sweat more and to see more.

We hiked to the peak of Bukit Jambul via mushroom rock. We descended and took the 500 Track, Jalan Lembu 2, Jalan Pokok Besar, Gua Jongkong, Pokok Besar and reached Bukit Kukus.

We took another 90 minutes to reach the carpark after resting at Rimba 335 station for about 30 minutes.

On the way down, we took a more challenging trail.

We bumped into several hikers who were ascending. They told us the trail was tougher to go down because of the steep gradient.

Near Pokok Besar, we saw a cave with a plaque written in Chinese. From there, we could see the USM Padang Kawat and the university stadium.

We saw what that looked like grapes growing from a tree trunk. It was an unusual sight.

I saw a strange fruit that resembled maize. It was growing upright from the ground.

My friend told us the fruit was eaten by Myanmar and Bangladeshis. It is cooked with chicken.

(A hiker friend mentioned that the plant is called Amorphophallus prainii. The common name is Voodoo Lily).

The climb was tough due to the steep terrain. We held on to a thick rope. We stopped several times for a breather. We took an hour to reach Bukit Kukus peak.

Cobras have been spotted too often in Bukit Jambul and Bukit Kukus.

Another fun outing. We started the hike at 8.15am. We reached the carpark at 1.30pm.

Its just a step further from Bukit Rimbah 335m. Perhaps not suitable for beginner who already went Bukit Rimbah as you will over-exert yourself when coming down, prone to injuries

Personally, i like all hills and mountains. I hike a lot, even night time. But there was no observation deck or anything for any view at all. It was just a levelled peak of 20 square metres. You stop, take your drink, continue to next peak or return.

My weekly hiking place. Many starting points and routes to the highest peak (Station 7, by the way the station numbers are not in any ascending or descending order) at Kukus from easy to challenging routes. Normally it takes an average hiker like me about an hour to reach the peak and another hour down.
