It’s one of the Seven Wonders of the World. You don’t need a tour guide for this. Each building has a placard with the historical information(in English and Spanish). They have drinks and food inside. You can also buy souvenirs inside you will have plenty of choices. It’s a lot bigger in person and definitely lots of walking.

Beautiful sight and so much to see. Definitely recommend doing a guided tour and having someone walk you around to start and give you some background on this amazing site. Great place to buy gifts for friends and family. The pyramid is so impressive and beautiful. I spent about two hours here and felt like that was more than enough to walk around the entire place and go back to anymore buildings or sites that I wanted to see again. Very accessible and easy to move around the entire place. You’ll be walking around on easy level ground the entire time.

A must see and definitely a place to add to your bucket list. Drove from Cancun and it took about 2 and half hours with little to no traffic for most of the drive. Definitely worth booking a tour when factoring in the price of tolls & gas if you are looking for a more budget friendly option. The toll lines could take up to 15 minutes. Several times just before arriving we were waved our by tour locations that made it seem like we had to get a tour but, luckily from reading all the reviews before we just keep driving. We didn’t get a tour guide and definitely would not say it is mandatory although I did already know a lot about the location and culture before this trip. If you don’t then getting a tour with transportation would definitely be a great option. We parked at a local spot just before the official parking which was about a five minute walk to the park. We bought tickets when we arrived. We went on a week day and arrived a little before noon and waited about 15-20 minutes to get our tickets. We were able to walk the entire park in less than 3 hours. Plenty of options from souvenir vendors all over the park and from the walk in. Overall it was an amazing experience and definitely the best place we went to when visiting the the Yucatán peninsula.

When you are really early there it is nice to see all the buildings with nearly no others. The size of the the whole area impressed me, especially when you think about it that there has been much more in the surrounding area

This is an absolutely outstanding Wonder of the World. A MUST visit spot if you're in the Yucatan!!! Very beautiful and historic!
Get a tour guide to learn about the details of this Mayan ruin that you won't notice!!!!! Well worth it!!!
You will unquestionably need a hat, water, and sunscreen!!! It is hot!
Also, this place is very, very crowded. There are hundreds of souvenir sellers inside and outside the park who will be very aggressive in trying to sell things to you. If you do want to buy something, make certain to negotiate a lower price!!!

Enjoyed this historic site very much! Wasn't crowded that much and you could really take your time and enjoy each "ruin" and learn the history behind them. VERY INTERESTING!

Absolutely stunning! A fantastic area surrounding a famous archaeological location. You must visit here when in Mexico and make sure you go with a local guide who can tell you the history of the area and make sure you do not miss any of the stunning features. Also keep an eye out for the iguanas that have made the area their home.

Even though it is widely known and an extremely popular tourist site, Chichén Itzá is absolutely worth the trip. And it will be a trip if you’re a tourist, as it’s pretty far inland on the Yucatán peninsula. Going on a tour bus will allow you to see the landscape on your way, but it’s a lot of flat jungle with maybe a few towns/cities along the way depending on where you’re coming from.

We visited while on a cruise, and were blessed with a passionate and knowledgeable tour guide, Julian, which added so much to the experience. He studied archaeology and participated in excavations at Chichén Itzá and other Mayan sites, so had a ton of background info that he was very happy to share.

Even though visitors are no longer allowed to climb them, the ruins themselves are awesome. This is especially the case for the main attraction of El Castillo, also called the Temple of Kukulcán. There’s so many cool things about this pyramid, and even just seeing and learning about it alone would make it worth the visit. However, there are many more ruins to admire, along with several cenotes and lots of wildlife on the trails between sections. You’ll also find a ton of vendors with goods to sell, some of can be pushy. I did notice that prices here were cheaper than at the rest stop we visited on the ride over. Prepare for heat and lots of sunlight and expect to face crowds, and enjoy your visit to this wonder of the world!

Truly amazing place.
You should definitely go, but prepare yourself for many insta-posers and a lot of touristy selling stuff.
If you are able to turn off the noise created by people, and tune in into the history and sound of birds, it will be a very enjoyable experience.
Ensure that you read about it before you go, so that you can appreciate it as it deserves.

Beautiful and unique place! A bit disturbing on the entrance, too many people trying to scam you or sell stuff, but as long as you walk straight past without stopping you will avoid problems. Place itself is amazing. Different aura I think you have to visit this place at least once if you in Mexico. And lastly it is super hot so definitely bring water , sunglasses and don’t forget to put sunscreen. For me it was burning hot even thought I love hot weather and rarely ever burn.

Beautiful place to visit. Seems surreal at times due to how gorgeous the architecture is and how much history you are in the presence of. The tour guide was so detailed and informative and exploring on our own was amazing as well, going at our own pace. Definitely a site to swe in your lifetime

Chichén Itzá, nestled in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, stands as a testament to the ingenuity and architectural prowess of the ancient Mayan civilization. This UNESCO World Heritage Site draws visitors from around the globe, eager to explore its rich history and marvel at its iconic structures.

The centerpiece of Chichén Itzá is the imposing El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulcan. This step pyramid dominates the landscape and serves as a striking example of Mayan astronomical knowledge, with its alignment to the equinoxes producing a fascinating serpent-like shadow during specific times of the year.

Beyond El Castillo, Chichén Itzá boasts a wealth of other structures, each with its own unique significance. The Temple of the Warriors, adorned with intricate carvings and surrounded by a thousand columns, stands as a tribute to military might and religious devotion. Nearby, the Great Ballcourt impresses with its sheer size and echoes of ancient sporting events.

Exploring Chichén Itzá offers a journey back in time, allowing visitors to imagine life in this ancient city bustling with activity and religious ceremonies. Knowledgeable guides provide insights into the Mayan culture, its religious beliefs, and the architectural innovations that distinguish Chichén Itzá from other archaeological sites.

However, the popularity of Chichén Itzá means it can become crowded, particularly during peak tourist seasons, detracting somewhat from the serene ambiance one might hope to find at such a historic site. Despite this, the allure of Chichén Itzá remains undeniable, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the mysteries of ancient civilizations.

One of the new wonders of the world! Hire a tour guide even if it is expensive it is worth it. Otherwise, you will miss out on some fascinating insights about the architecture and history of this marvel. It is truly a wonder. The Mayan history and their detailing left in each of the ruins leaves you in awe. We spent 3 hours, and even though it was hot, the stories made us spend a lot of time here.

Chichén Itzá is mind-blowing! The ancient Mayan ruins are an architectural marvel, and El Castillo is a jaw-dropping centerpiece. The intricate carvings and the significance of each structure make it a cultural treasure. The historical aura is surreal, especially during the equinox when the serpent shadow graces the pyramid. A must-visit for history buffs and anyone seeking a glimpse into the awe-inspiring world of the Mayans.

Great place to learn some about Mayan history. It easily takes about 2.5-3 hours to finish all. You can get a guide or walk by yourself. Guide does not take you to all of the spots from what I understood but you can finish the rest by yourself if you want. There are information boards next to each ruin which is quite helpful to understand what the ruin is about. There also 2 cenotes to visit at the site.
