Restaurante El Toro

Recommended by Mayan Gypsy which is an absolute must stay. Where the local goes to eat. I had fried fish and the extra side dishes are delicious. We enjoyed the meal so much I completely forgot my purse at el Toro all day. I only want back again for dinner but the waiters was all confused. Why I never as for my purse?
He show me my purse at the bar area. They were waiting for me to come back all day. I was very grateful. Nothing was missing.

We really enjoyed our dining experience at El Toro. Very kind and helpful service and some good food at reasonable prices. The botanas that came with the drinks were delicious, especially the ceviche. We will be returning again soon!

While in Progreso for 3 days. I ate twice here! Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The large fish plate feeds 3 at least is excellent! I love there beans. Tortillas are fresh. They serve these onion slices that mixed with another wine colored veggie and marinate together. Damn, I could not get enough of those onions. I'm not a big onion fan, but these onions! Bring them on!
Also try the Pollo and shrimp planchet, simply wonderful!
Just a great go to place for great food. BTW, all the locals I asked for a good dinner place to eat always told me El Toro! El Toro is an easy walk from any of the beach front hotels on the boardwalk!
One last comment! If you are looking for fine dinning? This in not your place! El Toro is simple, casual dining with great food and friendly staff/atmosphere!!!!

We found this local restaurant and had our lunch here. They serve little starters which was nice. All food was delicious if you like fish ;-) Fresh fish with grate taste! The ceviche camarone (ceviche with shrimps) was very tasty:-) Thank you!

Best ceviche mixto I've ever had! Highly recommend. Take cash, no debit or credit card accepted.

Tender, delicious shrimp ceviche with little pieces of octopus for botana. Tender perfectly breaded large shrimp for my main course and pan de cazon for Raúl. Highly recommend.

I was able to pick the fish I wanted. It was delicious. Dinner was $11 (with a %20 tip) three free appetizers {one was Lobsta salad!) and one beer!

The mixed ceviche was fresh and yummy, although it was mainly shrimp.
The waiters were very helpful and patient both times.
I was the only tourist.

Fresh and delicious seafood at amazing prices. We ordered pescado frito (whole fried fish), pan de cazón and the complimentary apetizers they give while you wait for your food to arrive. 100% recommended. We will keep coming back every time visit Merida.

Been in Yucatán for 8 years and never came here, it was a good surprise to find by recommendation such a typical and nice place! Place was crowd but service was always fast and kind. Prices are not high and the fish was fresh. Would return of course, because it was an excellent place for meal and beers (micheladas).
Try the Fried Fish at center of the table. The appetizers while you order are good too.
You need to come before lunch time (around 2pm) to get a table faster.

Awesome place!
They bring you a large spread when you sit down. We don’t know exactly what it was, but all VERY tasty.
From the menu, we ordered fried chicken and the Diablo shrimp. Both great portions and great. Highly recommend for a fun night with authentic food.

One of the best Restaurants in Progreso, with the 3B's in Spanish (Bueno, Bonito & Barato)(Good Product, Nice & Cheap).
I recommended it, if you want a good amount of Sea Products per order, at good prices.
Eat until you get full fill.

This is one of my favourite places. It falls into my 'non-tourista' group, as you very rarely see fellow gringos there. It opens at noon, and is very busy from about 2:00. Seafood - delicious, value-priced seafood - and cold beer is found here. The atmosphere is rustic but clean. The service is reasonably quick and attentive, and always friendly. If you are one who can't survive without a/c, this might not work for you although I find it cool enough. Give it a try. It's a locals' favourite, and mine too.

Fantastic ceviche, incredibly low prices. Very friendly staff. Maybe don't go here if you don't speak any Spanish because I don't think anyone here speaks English. But that's part of what makes it great. Casual, open-air, noisy, family-oriented. Love it!

If you want authentic, delicious local seafood this is the place. The pescado frito here is fried to perfection, and the camarones are cooked perfectly no matter how you order them. We came here several times and the service was always friendly and fast. Highly recommend!!

This is a proper Mexican restaurant, with great service, and good food freshly cooked to order. Even our vegan friend was happy. The fries are fantastic! Peter X

After a few hours at the beautiful beach, in Progreso, we were very hungry! My friends suggested el Toro. I am glad they did!! Food was great and we had a wonderful song for dessert!

We received immediate attention. Freddy the parking attendant was very funny. Our waiter was organized and attentive. We are going back
