The Pagoda is clean and exquisite. You can pray and donate. You can also feed to fish and tortoises at garden in this pagoda area. Be aware that one cannot wear shorts or skirts, dresses to visit. Bring a longyi for ladies or long pant. I didn't see any panhandlers near pagoda area at this time and people are no longer bothered for this.

This is an amazing temple to be in. There is a K5000 entrance fee for foreigners. This temple has got so much gold in it's interior and exterior that it looks so magnificent. Here, you get to witness devout worshippers apply gold leaf on the buddha statue. There's a video live stream as well as women are not allowed near it. There's also a bronze statue museum on-site with English explanations and an art gallery which details the faith in Myanmar. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Wow, what an interesting place. Unfortunately, you can't actually see the gold leaf Buddha, but they do have pictures of it at various years going back to 1935 so you can see the transition as it gets more and more gold leaves on it. The surrounding building is pretty impressive too. It seems to be a very holy place for people so please be respectful here.

This place is magnificent. It is very crowded. You can see the men applying gold on the statue while the woman only can sit far from the statue.

This is very famous pagoda in Mandalay city. Most people come to see the budda which is now very big due to gold leafs.

The Mahamuni buddha is over 12 feet tall and is gold coated. It is the main attraction but there are others which include mural and historical paintings, stone inscriptions, bronze statues, traditional handicrafts, a library and a drum tower.
Only men are allowed in the most sacred part inside but there is a video screen where you can see the inner sanctum.

The Mahamuni Buddha Temple (Burmese: မဟာမုနိဘုရားကြီး, Burmese pronunciation: [məhà mṵnḭ pʰəjádʑí]; also called the Mahamuni Pagoda) is a Buddhist temple and major pilgrimage site, located southwest of Mandalay, Myanmar (Burma) (Myanmar).[1] The Mahamuni Buddha image (literal meaning: The Great Sage) is deified in this temple, and originally came from Arakan.[2] It is highly venerated in Burma and central to many people's lives, as it is seen as an expression of representing the Buddha's life.[3]

Ancient tradition refers to only five likenesses of the Buddha, made during his lifetime; two were in India, two in paradise, and the fifth is the Mahamuni Buddha image in Myanmar.[1][2][4][5][6] According to the legend, the Buddha visited the Dhanyawadi city of Arakan in 554 BC.[1] King Sanda Thuriya requested that an image was cast of him. After casting the Great Image, the Buddha breathed upon it, and thereafter the image became the exact likeness of the Mahamuni.

Great place to visit in Mandalay. You can visit around and there are two times you can go. Once if you want to pay respect to Buddha, you should go early in morning. At 6am, they will open to for you to offer gold to Buddha. The second time is normally. After going around, you can visit many shops that they made Buddha by woods.

It's the second holiest temple in Myanmar. Women not allowed close to buddha to put gold plating, but can worship from a distance. Has two museums, one bronze museum and a history museum. Has lots of small shrines all around. It's an ancient temple renovatedover centuries and has a lot of history. Even has a lake where one can feed birds, turtles and fishes. The presence is amazing, one can spend a lot of time in front of the mahamuni statue.
