Madagascar Photography Museum Reviews

They have six short documentaries about Madagascar and its cultural heritage, made up of historic photographs in 3 languages.
In addition, there's also a number of photographs on display on the walls with explanations.
A small souvenir shop (beautiful postcards!), a temporary photo exposition in the garden (environment conservation) and a lovely garden restaurant. Great views from the hilltop. Overall worth a visit.

Highly recommend visiting after the queen's palace. A couple short movies make use of old photographs to provide interesting documentaries about different subjects about the country (history, religion, medecine, transportation...)
Upstairs, a themed photo exhibit is presented. At the time of writing, the subject was the traditional Malagasy "Lamba" cloth.

The museum itself is really interesting, although quite small. Budget maybe an hour for the whole thing. It is also situated on top of a hill with a beautiful view of the city. Definitely recommend if you want to learn about the history of Madagascar through photos taken by Malagasy photographers. The museum is available in French, Malagasy, and English.

Great little museum retelling the history and introduction of Photography in Madagascar. The museum has a small collection of photos and 4 booths with video projections explaining the history of photography in English, French or Malagasy. There is also a small café adjacent to the museum and the location, gives you a great view of Antananarivo. Hopefully the collection gets expanded as people submit more pictures and more of them are restored. Definitely a place to visit if you're visiting the capital and the rest of the country as you will see how all these places looked like in the past and learn a bit of Madagascar's history in the process.
