Andong Hahoe Folk Village

Beautiful and definitely worth going!
If you’re able to, go during the weekend, from 2 to 3pm there is a traditional mask performance which is amazing.
The performance is obviously in korean, but there is some things translated it on a screen.
The performers interact with the public and it is fun.
I recommend spending the whole day there (From around 1pm to 6pm, the sun hours in winter)
There’s a free admission mask museum which i’d recommend doing as the last thing.
The entrance to the village is 3,000₩ for adults

I was fortunate to be at Hahoe folk village during winter. It is beautiful, educational, and bigger than I thought. I hope to go back one day!

Easy to reach from the center by one bus, well preserved UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE LISTED sight just 1 hour distance from Andong. Houses look like anytime a resident will greet you when you're in the yard. Long trails for enjoying nature. I absolutely love Korean architecture!

Authentic and living village surrounded by a river. Wonderful atmosphere. Not possible to enter into the buildings but the landscape and getting lost in the streets is amazing.

A unique cultural experience that left a mark on us. Outside of the city rhythm of life, the village conveys a mood and feeling that originates from different times. Spend a couple of nights at the village, try to get accustomed to the routine there and you will not regret it. I would also recommend having a nice coffee from the wonderful gentleman Mr Kim Gi Young at the entrance of the village on the left.

I can see why it's a UNESCO world heritage site. The hahoe mask performance is only Tuesday -Sunday at 2pm.

Hahoe, is one of the best places in Korea to visit. There is a lot to do here and the village is more original than others around Korea. It really gives you a look at how traditional Koreans used to live as well as history about the area and Korea in a whole. Make sure to stop for some Jimdak and some of the restaurants close by and just walk around exploring the place. Most homes are still owned by people who live there so be respectful but you can also walk into a few of the more famous ones as well.

So cute to visit, relax, learn about Korean culture and have a cozy set of photos.

I've been fortunate to feel like I travelled in time when visiting Hahoe. We had a local volunteer guide, a wonderful English-speaking guide that gave us great information into Korean traditions, architecture and history. I recommend asking for a guide at the information point next to the bus shuttle.

I had a very good experience here with my Taiwanese friend and we had really fun day walking and exploring this village! We met very friendly local and eat together. I came here with public bus from Gyeongju and return back late at night. Its really easy to move around this area. Should go! But I forgot the entrance fee.

For a person who is interested in history and culture, especially of South Korea, one should definitely visit this traditional and ancient Hahoe folk village.
These old village houses have been well preserved for the tourists and visitors to be able to get a glimpse of how it used to be centuries ago.
This place is teeming with visitors, not only foreigners, but Koreans also.
Just a slow walk through the village gives a good impression of the place.
Various village activities are demonstrated here for the people to watch, participate and understand.
There is a daily performance of traditional theatre also.

UNESCO site. Korean village with plenty of traditional houses. I was there on Saturday and it was quite crowded. The entrence fee is 5000 won and includes the entrance to the Mask Museum and Mask Dance performance. I would really recommend the Mask Dance, it was great experience.

This is a great cultural village to visit. Surrounded by a beautiful river. You can take a short ferry ride to the cliff and get a great view of the village. Before entering the village you can try different local delicacies. Inside the village refreshing drinks are available at stores and vending machines.

This village is one of the historical site in Korea, As a foreigner understanding Korean culture is very important for me. This trip helped me a lot.

Out of no where you see this old village. It is a community where people still lives there but their job is to preserve. Entrance fee is about 10usd. Best to rent a golf cart at the entrance. 1.5hr should be enough to see with golfcart.

If you like traditional places this has to be om the top of your list. This village is one of the two UNESCO protected village heritage in South Korea. It has still locals living there who are providing a lot of different experiences like calligraphy.

Saying Hahoe village first thing is coming to my mind is an traditional well designed houses .Just only walking around village the atmosphere make you relax and see how was real old village buildings. Walking there you can see exquisite scenic sights like the elegant Nakdong River flowing around the village, the magnificent Buyongdae Cliff, endlessly unfolding sandy beaches, and lush, ancient pine trees. Visitors can even take the boat to Buyongdae Cliff for a panoramic view of the village. Inside the village there is an traditional market from where you can get not that expensive stuff as an souvenir.As Andong popular with traditional masks for me I got little traditional mask for 2000 won .

Tips if you are planning to go.

1. Book the local guide (english available)
2. Check the bus schedule! (it’s country side. Buses work limited times)
3 If you wanna experience the night, book it in advance (weekends are normally full)

If you are looking for somewhere to experience real traditional part of Korea, Andong is the place. I have been to Jeonju 3 times with different guests and it felt too commercialised and set up. Also it was too overpriced everywhere in Jeonju.

But in Andong, prices are reasonable! Any beverage will cost under 5000krw and I loved it. Maybe food looks expensive but if you see how much they serve you, it’s not really expensive. And it’s delicious!

The most exciting part is that Hahoe village is a real place. People still live there and take care of the village as one. Thanks to them we still can experience our ancient’s life nowadays.

I highly recommend this place if you are in Korea.

You may need a whole day to explore this village because there are many hidden places that you may missed. you can either walk or rent a cute small car to look around the village. another must-visit place in Andong!
