Kitazawa Bookstore

Must visit for serious readers and fans of interesting books. Takes time to find gems but that's part of the fun. Went twice and each time found must purchase options. Will be back next time am in Tokyo.

A quaint little bookstore with a wonderful atmosphere and huge selection of all kinds of books in different languages and little knick nacks like postcards, matchboxes and other small things.
Just browsing through the selection and taking in the atmosphere of the place is a wonderful way to spend your time - resisting the urge to take one of the many big dictionaries home with you is quite difficult though.
This bookstore definitely makes you want to buy some tall shelves and start your own collection of used books 笑

Wow wow wow English books! This is one of maybe 2?3? bookstores in Jimbocho that specialize in foreign lit. Kitazawa staff/family is super friendly. I stayed here for a really long time. If I had more money, I would buy everything, probably. I love books.

Lovely place. The whole neighborhood is a bookstore although most of other shops are selling Japanese book.

Quite simply the best English second hand bookshop in Tokyo. I have been going for many years and every trip find gems. The owner is helpful and speaks English. Good philosophy, literature and history sections especially. Highly recommended.

This places feels like being in an English library. It is not very big as you may think because of pictures, but still has plenty of selections, all of them in non-Japanese languages, and all of them in very well shape.

Fantastic rare and vintage bookstore on the 2nd level (no longer need to go through the children's bookstore on the ground floor, new entrance to the left). I have bought numerous books and assorted ephemera from here, usually reasonable prices. If you are a collector it is definately worth a visit!

Great bookstore located on 2F, selling old books but also postcards, stamps etc.which are great as small souvenirs to bring back home. Books are in great condition and weren't expensive, staff was friendly

Beautiful bookshop with a decent selection of english books on the second floor at affordable prices (think 2000yen and below). They carry books from authors like Bronte, CS Lewis, Virginia Woolf and Agatha Christie. Also sells pretty vintage postcards and posters.

I stumbled across this shop while doing serious ukiyo-e shopping in the neighborhood because it was so classy and inviting. I kinda just wanted a spot to sit down for a minute, which they had, but then--lo and behold--there were all these amazing out-of-print books all around me, reasonably priced and in English! I barely browsed, but ended up with three books anyway: one hard-to-find classic that I'd paid a fortune for used only this one was SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, one book that I've been trying to find for years, but it goes for $150+ on US Amazon (just sitting there! On the top of a pile! Waiting for me!), and then a Virginia Woolf hardback in great shape with original 60's dustjacket jumped out at me. I was on the fence about ¥1600 for it... until a quick check of US Amazon said it's going for $130. OKAY THEN! AND I was able to sit down on a comfy chair with a view of the street for a few minutes and collect my thoughts for what was next. Thanks Kitazawa, you were amazing.

Amazing book selection. Shop is physically small but could still spend hours browsing the selection. Very cool vintage English books about japan/ Japanese art and culture.

Incredible selection of used and antiquarian foreign-language books. This place is dangerous for a book collector addict such as myself!

My favourite place to browse in Jimbocho. I could spend hours and tens of thousands of yen there!
