We have just finished the April 2024 moderate tour of Toyama/Kanazawa/Kyoto with Oka Tours and cannot say enough positive things about it. For us, this was the perfect way to experience Japan for our first time. Akira Oka lead our tour (along with the incredibly strong and kind Taku) and was both knowledgeable and supportive. Our group of eight tourists and two guides was a perfect size, allowing us to get to know each of the other cyclists and never overwhelming the sites that we visited. Akira's local knowledge of back roads, cultural sites and practical amenities (hotels and restaurants) made our experience always run smoothly and pleasurably. The tour showcased both the cultural history and natural beauty of this amazing country. It is our hope to return soon and would absolutely recommend Oka Tours to any adventure loving cyclist who wishes to fully immerse themselves in Japan!

We had an amazing bike adventure with Oka Tours and Akira guiding us along the Tama River to Mount Mitake. Akira scheduled great lunch locations and an overnight at a traditional ryokan inn. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or accommodations. If you are looking for a Japanese adventure off the beaten path, Akira is the best!

We did the Relaxed ride up the Tama River. For slightly out of shape middle aged people like ourselves it was the right amount riding. About 30 KM each day. On the first day we saw the everyday Sunday life of typical Japanese people; kids playing soccer, loads of baseball, fisherman fly fishing, young adults bouldering and kayaking, it was truly immersive seeing the life and culture of the Japanese, something you don’t see in Tokyo or on the tourist path. Akira was attentive to every need and went above and beyond for us on both the tour and understanding customs. On day two we climbing up the river to a beautiful lake and had a fun ride down to Okutama town. This was a highlight of the trip for sure. So much accomplished I can’t even write it all down. Please do yourself a favor and book Akira and Oka for your trip to Japan.

Akira and his team are amazing guides. Well thought out routes that are safe and scenic. This is the best way to experience Japan; I've done the Noto and Hokkaido tours, and am looking forward to my next one!

We experienced a 2 day, 1 night, "relaxed" tour along the Tama river with Akira this November. We loved every second! The ride along the river was gorgeous and on the second day we saw monkeys on the path. Akira took great care of us! Highly recommend Oka Tours!

Just finished a great 2 day trip. Biked from Hino to Mount Mitake for an overnight on the mountain at Shukubo lodge. Fabulous onsen and traditional food. Second day we biked from Sitake to Lake Otukama and finished it up with an onsen in Otukama. Wow! If you are looking for a break from the city, go for this ride with Akira. Much wilderness, wildlife and small villages to explore.

If you're wondering why there are so few recent reviews of this outfit, recall that Japan had very strict Covid lockdown regulations until very late. We rode with the Oka team in May 2023 and had one of the best riding experiences ever on the Noto peninsula and down to Kyoto. On and off the bike, on the rides, at lunch breaks, on cultural and historical stops, Akira and his staff were exemplary. The slightly off the beaten track hotels and inns were uniformly fantastic, as were the post-ride onsen baths! I can't think of a better way to discover a county, its history and culture than rolling along on two wheels, guided by native voices. A terrific experience all in.

We traveled as family of 6 adults from Canada to Sado Island with Oka tours in June 2019. We had a truly fantastic trip. We loved getting to know the real Japan through the expert guidance of Atsushi and owner Akira. These fine gentleman were very attentive, highly organized, flexible and accommodating of all of our wants and needs. They are both very knowledgeable and they bent over backwards to make our trip so wonderful. I highly recommend Oka Tours and dream of returning to bike with them again in beautiful Japan.

Excellent cycling tour (Hokkaido - shiretoko) filled with stunning vistas of mountains/lakes/seas, delicious food, pleasant cycle-friendly roads and best of all a fantastic tour guide! We had an unforgettable time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Oka tours to anyone keen on seeing Hokkaido by bike. Already planning the next trip....

If you're considering cycling in Japan, look no further! We just returned from 8 days riding with Oka Tours in the Noto peninsula with Kanazawa and Kyoto and it exceeded all expectations. Start to finish, Akira, the owner leader was amazing-- from communicating pre-trip to navigating around unpredictable events such as train line and road closures post typhoon he was great.
I also can't overstate the benefit of traveling with a native Japanese guide (with great English). He brought cultural insights that we wouldn't otherwise have gotten.
Akira went above and beyond to accommodate our every need. I hope to do another Oka tour in the future.

This was our first experience of japan and it was a great experience. Despite part of the trip having to be changed due to,the Noto earthquake Akira team managed to reroute. The guides were excellent super friendly and helpful.The bikes provided were the best hire bikes I have had which made it much more comfortable riding. As a vegetarian I did find the food an issue, but the team did their best to get me alternatives to the vast amount of meat /fish that is predominant in Japan.
