The guy at the front remembers you/and your shoes. This is an experience only found in Japan.

They made the tatami beds after check in after I left the room.

This is attentive and fantastic service.

The onsen was great. The hotel was conveniently located. And the view was nice!

For the price it was really great. Would stay here again in Kusatsu.

Even at Japan standards, the service was top notch. The staff can communicate in multiple languages and attempts to connect with customers in their native language. Dinner and breakfast were very delicious. On the night I stayed, the menu was heavy on seafood with some exotic items that some foreigners might not be familiar with and therefore hesitant to try.

As this is a very old (albeit well-maintained building), the sound-proofing is quite poor as conversations from adjacent rooms are clearly audible, and the floors were surprisingly squeaky when walked upon. Ryokans that I've stayed in that are much newer do not have these issues.

Old hotel, renovated, rooms are very clean, staff provide very good service, there is a shuttle to a nearby ski resort. Near a famous large public onsen.

Staff at this hotel were genuine, kind and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The hotel itself combined modern and traditional design beautifully. We slept on futon on tatami mat floors. I fell asleep to the sound of the volcanic water stream outside. The rooms were minimal and clean with intricately designed sliding doors. The breakfast and dinner were outstanding - offering us an opportunity to try diverse and unique foods. We got to try local plum wine, abalone, local tofu, bonito, miso, clams, local beef. Our meals were delicious and unforgettable! I loved my stay here.

This charming retreat nestled in the heart of a famous onsen area provides guests with a serene and rejuvenating experience. The hotel combines traditional Japanese architecture with modern comforts, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Spacious, well-appointed rooms offer beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. A standout feature is access to natural hot spring baths, allowing guests to indulge in the therapeutic properties of the mineral-rich waters. The in-house restaurant serves delectable Japanese cuisine, featuring local ingredients and seasonal flavors.

Wonderful staffs and atmosphere!
The hotel itself is historical, and well maintained. The room, shared onsen bath, shared space, foot bath, private bath are all clean and cozy. We stayed here for 3 days, satisfied with everything. The bed was great, enough length for 185cm tall. Even though there is only one menu for breakfast, it changes every day. Staffs make an effort to communicate with you even you don’t speak Japanese. This hotel has a service to pick you up from the bus terminal as well! This place is close to any popular sites in Kusatsu.

If you’re going to Kusatsu, this is the hotel to stay in. I cannot speak highly enough about how good the customer service is. The staff are so friendly, polite and they go over and above in everything they do. The hotel is so clean and offers both public baths for free for hotel guests and private baths for hire at a great price. The ryokan style rooms are perfect for an authentic Japanese experience. The beds are very comfortable and they even have a heater for those cold Kusatsu nights. I loved the yukata they lend you to wear around the hotel and even outside when you’re exploring the town which the hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of. To all the wonderful staff at the hotel, thank you so much for making our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. We will be back.

Great place, traditional architecture, amazing natural hot spring water, great traditional food which you could ask to change due to dietary restrictions at extra charge. If you don't have a car, ask the information desk at the main station so they can send you a free ride to their hotel.

Excellent location. Right next to a beautiful park and outdoor onsen. The staff were professional and very accommodating. We rented the private onsen and it didn't disappoint. The hotel is a perfect 5 min walk to all the towns main attractions. Very clean and traditional rooms.

Beautiful historic hotel in a very good location, perfect for exploring the town. built in 1913, it’s currently managed by the 5th generation.

The rooms are modern traditional Japanese and have ensuite toilets/showers. They also have a foot onsen. Their private onsens are chargeable and their public onsens do not permit people who have bigger tattoos.

Extremely close to Sainokawara Open-air Bath Onsen, which is less than 5-7 min walk.

A very nice hotel with a beautiful and clean onsen. The room is spacious and all necessary amenities are provided.
The breakfast was a Japanese style that was satisfying.
The hotel location is between Yubatake and close to the Sainokawara park which makes its location ideal to explore the town.
The staff was nice and they guided us at the check in through the Ryokan.
There is also a foot bath where you can enjoy coffee while soaking your feet in the amazing kusatsu hot springs water.

Beautiful building with modern touches! Amazing cost performance. The location is 10min walk to the central Kusatsu (Yubatake) and right next to the Saino Kawara Koen, which is beautiful and fun to walk around. Dinner course comes with a fine dish of a whole abalone! The hotel room is beautiful but we heard some noises from the floor above us. Except for that, I highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Beautifully maintained ryokan managed by friendly, gentle staff, with beautiful retro stylish common areas, a foot bath, indoor/outdoor onsens and bathrooms in each room. Extremely walkable to the town. Very quiet location.

Love this traditional Japanese hotel so much! It is very quiet and convenient in the same time. It has a outdoor foot bath session where you can chill and relax. It also provide both public and private onsen (1000 yen). The onsen water made my skin extremely soft after soaking in it. The hotel staffs were extremely friendly and helpful! Thumbs up to them

Great hotel and staff. They don't really speak English very well, but we were able to communicate. They also insisted making our bed even though we could do it. It also has natural hot spring, which is.not temperature controlled so whatever water coming out, that's the heat you get and sometimes the heat is too hot! So watch yourself.. Also they would switch the room from men and women at certain time. They do that because each room has outside hot spring which has different views. So watch where you're going.
It also provides the hot spring just for your feet nearby the lobby area. I think there would also tea ceremony, but not sure when they would have it. They certainly didn't have it when we were there.

The hotel staff made us feel very welcome. The onsen was comfortable and the food was delicious. The location is right by the sainokawara park, allowing you to conveniently explore it at night for a different atmosphere. Walking to the Yubatake will let you explore the main streets of the town. Several things to note:
- There is a hotel shuttle to and from the bus station so book in advance
- You eat in the dining hall, not in your room
- There is an onsen fee of 150 yen per person
- The hotel offers a thicker, full-body jacket you can wear over the Yukata, but it's not in your room. Go to the space before the onsen to retrieve one.
