Although super touristy, it is amazing to see the onsen pool and waterfall. Night and day environments are different, so it is advised to visit at all hours. I visited in Jan 2024 so the steam created a haunted feeling. Fallen snow created an amazing scene

Absolutely stunning and magical place.

Love the color of the water, the smell of the hot spring, the colorful lights at night, and the magnificent sound of the rushing hot spring. I must have walked around Yubatake 5 or 6 times nights and days, looking at it from different angles.

If only I could visit this place every weekend, I would.

wow! Finally, Ive been here in this very famous onsen in Gunma. How good to spend my golden week here in this place. I highly recommend this place to visit. By the way, you cannot use your IC card going here, you need to buy a ticket

It’s an awesome place to soak into the transitional onsen area.

I like the “ Constitution of Kusatsu onsen” which describes “ Wish people come safely, wish people leave cheerfuly”.

There is 24 hours video camera and you can watch it via YouTube. Cool.

1st ranking onsen town in Japan, definitely worth to pay a visit here. The only cons was the inconvenience of getting here by either bus or self drive , no train can even reach nearby this tiny little town.

One of the most beautiful places I've been. There is a constant smell of sulfur in the air, so if you can't live with that, this place isn't for you. Otherwise I would recommend the Yubatake and Kusatsu Onsen in general to everyone.

There is a super relaxing Ashiyu (Footbath) right next to the Yubatake.

Make sure to also view this place at night, as it gets lit up!

Yubatake is the icon of Kusatsu and one that is not easy to miss when you're visiting this hot spring village. It is famous for naturally cooling the onsen waters around town and lights up in the evening, making a very romantic setting.

Around the area are little omiyage shops and restaurants for you to enjoy when visiting. It looks great during the day but really comes alive at night. You are surely going to smell the sulfur when visiting this village.

Absolutely stunning at day and night. This onsen town has some small shops and restaurants which you could easily spend a day here. But worth staying here overnight

A must-see area in Kusatsu. This is a public area in which you can view a beautiful sulfur hot spring, in which hot water is directed to the hotels and other resort features of Kusatsu.

Kusatsu Yubatake is a true gem nestled in the heart of Japan's hot spring culture. The sight of the steaming hot spring waters flowing down the wooden channels creates an ethereal ambiance that transports you to a different time. The surrounding area is steeped in history, and the therapeutic properties of the waters are renowned. Walking along the Yubatake, witnessing the billowing steam, and feeling the warmth permeate the air is an experience that rejuvenates both body and soul. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking tranquility amidst nature's breathtaking beauty.

It was amazing and once-in-a-lifetime memory that a traditional way of cooling a hot spring could be this much gorgeous even if it built hundreads of years ago.
I think most great moment is morning. Just after sunrise, hot spring's steam will fly to sun and you can enjoy warm foot bath with great scenery.

What a beautiful display of the natural hot springs and the method used to cool it down. I definitely recommend coming out at night when they have it lit up.

We took Shinkansen to karuizawa, then another one hour bus to kusatsu. The infamous onsen town, impressive infrastructure.
Would be great to have some descriptions so we know what things mean.

Memorable place to visit with great old town scenery. Only one thing is the place must go down from the hell with slope. To come here by public transportation with a large luggage is not recommended. Need to connect different way of public transportation to reach here.

Indeed a great place to visit for a 3d/2n. Quaint little onsen town with plenty of food, drinks, retails and onsens! Found connection to the town via the red express bus which run regularly from Karuizawa Station and its easy to travel to and fro even with large luggages. One of the biggest fears we had was luggages on the bus, but its a regular coach bus with big storage below deck. Pay via cash or mastercard on the bus when alighting (2400ish yen end to end) from Karuizawa Station to Kusatsu Bus Terminal.

Nice public area to look at the yubatake. Lots of shops and restaurants surrounding the yubatake. They have a nice Christmas tree up near the Christmas season and they even provide a wooden phone stand for people to take timer photos.

Absolutely amazing. Sure, it's touristy and rather crowded during peak season and hours but you should still go. The smell of the air, the black lights at night, the wonderful food and welcoming people all make for a great time. DON'T take the main roads to get around (unless you're shopping) because there are some pretty cool hidden gems in the little narrow pathways. Truly a must-stop place while in Gunma!
