Higashi Hongan-ji

When we visited they were preparing for a classical music concert with a pianist and opera singer. It has great acoustics. As it is a modern temple it doesn't receive the same amount of attention as the Sensō-ji which is in the same district, but it is a very impressive building with some interesting features and a beautiful gilded interior. It is a place where you can have a tranquil visit without the crowds.

We arrived just on time for the 14:30 prayer. A very nice and simple ceremony. The interior on the temple is so beautiful

It’s really quiet and beautiful temple between Sensoji Temple and Ueno Park. Although it’s not crowded on the mornings and afternoons as Sensoji Temple, it’s really great to visit.

Visited in 2016 and it's my favorite Buddhist temple from all I've seen so far. For me visiting this temple was a magical experience, I simply can't explain how amazing it made me feel. Can't wait to come here again!

Beautiful place. My grandparents have their ashes here, and the receptionist was very kind regardless of my language barrier. It was very heart warming to see the monks taking care of the temple and the long gone with their routines and chants.

You could find the temple easily by looking at the right side of the main street. It is a nice temple to have time with calm and peaceful mood. After being at the temple it is also good to see around the street near the temple, you could buy some incense or other Buddhist material goods.

When I visited, at 3 pm on Saturday, the monks sang prayers, and it was mesmerizing! To me, it was similar to canto gregoriano in a church, or Georgian singing. I don't know if they do it on a regular basis, hopefully, they do. On the left, there is a machine with hot/cold marcha tea. Grab a tea, take a seat and enjoy the magic.

This is a beautiful large temple with burial ground as well. The inside is amazing and you can get free leaflets with history etc. inside.

Beautiful temple and really quite. Free entrance. You can't access to all the premises but the Great Hall is lovely itself.

Wonderful place. The architecture inside was made in pure gold, stunning. I truly enjoyed the temple!
