Time bell tower also known as Toki no Kane in Japanese, located in Saitama prefecture northwest of Tokyo. This structure was built in 16th century and it was renovated several times during the 18th and 19th century. Kawagoe city designated this strucutre as Tangible cultural asset in 1958.

Very nostalgic traditional Japanese cultural place with good street shopping and food. There very unique Hashi making experience place, customized Hashi with your own name etc., and many more like a sweet potato chip of jumbo size. A must visit place to experience silent and not much marketed place where you can enjoy sushi, sashimi and many more traditional Japanese food dishes.

Whenever you have a day to spare in your no doubt busy life, preferably over the weekend, you should take the time to explore the Little Edo, aka Koedo area of Kawagoe City in Saitama.

There’s lots do, see, and perhaps most importantly, eat here, but one of the sightseeing highlights is the distinctive old wooden Toki no Kane bell tower.

The bell inside the Tsuki no Kane tower rings four times a day: At 6 AM, 12 noon, 3 PM, and 6 PM. You should definitely be around the tower to hear it.

Behind the tower, you’ll find the very quaint Yakushi Shrine. Believers say that praying at this shrine can help relieve eye-related ailments.

The wooden Toki no Kane bell tower is the symbol of Koedo that dates as far back as the 1600s.

This isn’t the original tower. The original 16 meter wood structure—built by the then Kawagoe Domain feudal lord Tadakatsu Sakai—was destroyed by the Great Kawagoe Fire of 1893. This tower is the one rebuilt in 1894.

Heard of this historical clock building. Very symbolic of the city , it was destroyed in a fire and rebuilt
Definitely worth the visit and it’s also on the way towards station from the shrine
One of the taller buildings in the city so it is very easy to spot
Not crowded on a weekend but the road outside is used by cars.

Nice 17th century bell tower next to the Starbucks. The pictures come out really nice against a clear blue sky. The sweet potato chips shop is also located nearby.

The temple inside is small and nothing else.
You could find small Inari deities thats all.
It is situated inside that street where you could find old traditional japanese city

I have been enjoying this plane so much. There are so many Japanese people and several foreigners that visit there. The vibe of this place made me feel like back in the past, with no high build just only traditional buildings in Japanese style. And traditional food in this place is sweet potato, you have to try it's not too sweet and hard. And if you would like to go, it's not too far from Tokyo too much. If you arrive at the Kawagoe Station find the bus (I tried to walk from Kawagoe to the train station, not too far just around 30 minutes for walking but it's cold outside).

I didn’t know what to do when I arrived here, I think a little information board in front of the building or QR Code poster directing to the informartion poster would help

Would love to have seen the view from the clock tower but it was amazing to walk on the grounds. The clock tower dates back to the early 1600s, centuries before the city was even founded.

Located in Kawagoe, in a small area where you can feel a different atmosphere of old city. Only like one hour from Tokyo. Oh... Don't forget to buy a tourist pass/package which will make you pay cheaper (train, bus) than a common price. Many snacks/candy store here. And also you can visit a new starbuck store with it's unique building and a nice small garden.

There was an on going event at that time so it was really quite a crowded place.
(October 20-21 3018)
It is a good tourist spot and the weather now is great.
We went there from Ikebukuro station riding the Tobu Tojo line
And then by bus number 1
Be very careful though of the bus stops because from our experience, we got quite confused of the bus number and bus stop where to ride and ended up a little further from the event place.

It would be better to go there probably on a normal day, maybe a weekday would be best.
Start early in the morning to be able to maximise the most of the town.
I would advise walking from Kawagoe station to the City Town Hall in order to get the most of the view of this little town.
It is a 25 minute walk though.

During the festival, we noticed that most of the shops sells sweet potatoes, fried and garnished with sesame seeds.

The old houses are really pretty and kept us wondering how do they maintain it knowing that most of the materials of old houses might be phased out.

There are little shops all over the place where you could buy souvenirs.
Kawagoe Starbucks is another attraction to this place.

Quaint little old town called Little Edo, Kawagoe. Must visit if you like old architecture. Get to the JR Kawagoe station and switch to the tourist bus where you pay 500 yen to hop on and off at various sight seeing places.
