I just booked a normal room but requested for a room with a view then they did assign me with a nice view room! It was a winter snow day so the view from the window was amazing!

Staff service was excellent while the hotel may seem old but it was well maintained. Location is great to the nearby snow monkey park. Also, they offered complimentary shuttle service to the nearby train station. Food and onsen facilities were decent.

I enjoyed the stay very much!

We had an incredible stay at Kanbayashi. The traditional style room with tatami was delightful, and the private onsen was very relaxing to enjoy as a couple. They are also tattoo friendly in the public onsen. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious and the service throughout was fantastic. Also right next to the snow monkey park entrance. We enjoyed this hotel very much.

Despite the higher price, everything felt like it was worth it.

We took a bus there from Nagano station and had to climb uphill to reach the hotel with our heavy luggage. The moment we stepped inside, they took over everything, giving us a huge sense of relief and a warm welcome. Everything is great, from the continuous impeccable service to the well maintained room and gorgeous views of the scenery outside.

There's even a small corner near the lifts that features the farmer's produce in the morning. The apples and shine Muscat grapes are highly recommended.

We opted to include the breakfast and dinners in our reservation and were surprised by the experience. It's not a buffet as one might expect from hotels but a multi course experience akin to fine dining. Tables in the restaurant are reserved for the guests in advance before our arrival for the meals, which makes it feel more special. It seems the same waiter or waitress gets assigned to attend to the same room numbers consistently to foster the best experience since you'll built a rapport with them, which is something we really appreciated as well. They would even call your room to let you know that your meals are ready.

We had our first onsen experience here and it was memorable and relaxing, reminiscent of the same scenes we see so often in Japanese media.

If you're heading out to visit the Snow Monkey park, be sure to let the reception know so that they can give you a discount coupon.

The only gripe we have is that we couldn't stay longer with our budget. Also, the location is rather remote, so don't expect much in terms of food and amenities beyond the hotel. The hotel itself is meant to provide a self-contained experience for full relaxation. Would definately return in future.

They let us rest there even though they know we aren't guests. Very exemplary hotel with good design and layout. Foreigners, and ones with kids, respect the people, the culture and follow absolute proper etiquette, cause it really looks bad if you don't.

Beautiful Ryokan with a spectacular central garden courtyard. Huge windows in the lounge area provide guests with an unobstructed view of the garden grounds.
Food served with the full board is exquisite and with specialty rice from the region that is served to the emperor.
The outdoor onsen is calming and relaxing.
Some amenities such as free coffee machine in the lounge were a nice touch.
The walls of the Ryokan are adorned with many photographs of snow monkeys.
They provide boots and umbrellas for hikes up to the snow monkey Attraction on the rainy days.
It is very conveniently located, at the foot of the snow monkey trails.

We have stayed for 1 night, and I would really like to thank the amazing staff for the authentic Japanese experience. The staff is friendly and kind, and the accommodation itself is very clean.
I would highly recommend to check out the onsen ! Also the hotel is close to the monkey park which is definitely worth visiting !

Great place to stay to visit the snow monkeys. The shuttle from the Yudanaka train station to the hotel was much appreciated and the service overall was great. Very old and established traditional Ryokan/Hotel. The Onsen was nothing super special but pleasant enough. The rooms felt old but the balcony was great. The outside garden was beautiful and there is a gift shop inside. Breakfast was amazing and the staff was very helpful.

Very good experience at this place. We went there only for one night to visit the Snow Monkey Park and we just want to stay in a ryokan close to the entrance.

The best thing about this place was its staffs. They are all very helpful and it was so funny that they do everything. The same person was a receptionist, a waiter, a shopkeeper, a room introducer and a bus driver.

The room is good but not that cozy or big. Anyway, it was very well decorated and there are everything you need. The view from the window was also good.

Their private onsen was very beautiful and comfort. There was two areas, the indoor one which has hotter water temperature and the outdoor one which seemed easier to go in. It was very cheap also comparing to another hotel we stayed in. You have to reserve in advance for this service.

The dinner and breakfast were good but not that cozy comparing to some ryokan we stayed. The food was more "local" Japanese rather than mainstream Japanese which allow you to have new experience.

The location is very close to the Monkey park but no convenient store nearby. Anyway, the beer vending machine did all the trick for me!

We just had an amazing one night stay at this hotel. They were aware it was our honeymoon so made it extra special. Thank you so much. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Feel very relaxed after a busy few days in Tokyo

Great hotel with lots of charm. Our server at dinner and breakfast was extremely friendly and helpful. The place is also within walkable distance to the entrance of the Snow Monkey Resort.

Very close to snow monkey park. They have shuttle to the station. In general service is amazing.

The dinner and the breakfast was awesome. There are a few restaurants and cafes around.

Totally recommended.

The service was great, staff was really warm and welcoming, and the food, in particularly the local beef served grilled/sukiyaki was phenomenal, probably the best beef i've ever had, even comparing against other A5 beef. The outdoors onsen was also serene.

This was an excellent place to stay, and made for a relaxing vacation within our vacation.

The service here was wonderful. Only some of the staff speak English, but overall communication wasn't an issue. Kobayashi was particularly helpful. We wish we had known ahead of time about the shuttle van, but since we checked in so late, I suspect we missed out on an introduction.

The food was fantastic. Beautiful, tasty, filling, but not too heavy. They were probably the meals with the greatest proportion of vegetables we had in Japan, which I loved.

The baths were excellent. My partner and I did a private bath together and quite enjoyed it. That said, the public bath is also excellent and seems to be frequently empty; the couple of times I went, I never saw anyone else in the ladies' bath.

While the private bath is great and not much of an additional expense, the quality of the public bath is so great that the only reason to have a private session is if you want to have some mixed gender bathing. The closest thing to a criticism I have is that the bath water is quite hot; I recommend a cool bucket shower before getting in, and maybe a couple of cold ones later.

We had a wonderful time at this magical place. We were spoiled with delicious kaiseki 9 course dinner and a traditional Japanese breakfast consisting of lots of different dishes, local pickles and delicacies. The rooms were comfortable and attention payed to every detail. The hotel offers a private onsen that can be booked at check-in. There is a lovely courtyard with water features and fish pond offering piece and tranquility. Lovely, lovely - I would definitely go there again.

First impressions are typically lasting ones. My first impression was awesome! They called us in advance to confirm our stay and the time of our arrival and to let us know that there are not many restaurants (at least not for dinner) nearby. We arrived late for check in but the staff were quick to kindly meet us out front before we even had the car doors open. From the moment we stepped foot into the hotel it was obvious there was a lot of time and effort into making our stay enjoyable. There is a view from virtually every window in the hotel. Waterfalls, tree’s, ponds with coy fish, etc... The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and packed with all the necessary amenities. The private onsen was beautiful only to realize we hadn’t even seen the best part, we sat in the hot indoor onsen oblivious to the outdoor one. And the best part, tattoos are allowed! On the public onsen and pool, but for ¥1.500 we choose to use the private onsen. Once we made our way to the outdoor onsen we were nice and cozy and able to enjoy the view of the trees and the snow in privacy. Slept like a rock and woke up to an amazing breakfast with a wide variety of homemade and local goodness. Once dressed and ready for the day it was a 20 minute walk to see the monkeys and the hotel provided a discount to the park. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Awesome hotel, I hope I get the opportunity to stay again. 10/10.

Great experience! Rooms and views are lovely. I also like that it is located very close to the entrance to the snow monkey park.

They also provide almost all you need for your stay so you can actually travel light. They even have boots to use if the trek to watch the snow monkeys are wet/muddy.

The kaiseki is at the restaurant (vs some other ryokan where you have it in the room), but understandably why. You actually get a multiple course meal, and the waitress will explain each dish to you. The meal was great! Fresh seasonal ingredients done perfectly.

They also have private onsen baths for rent.

Everything about this hotel was 5 stars. The hotel is close to Snow Monkey park and local ski areas. The staff are super friendly, the food was amazing, they have both private or public Osen baths and the rooms were amazing. We stayed in a traditional room. Would definitely recommend this place.
