This hotel was a start to finish amazing experience!
A fantastic combination of modern western and traditional Japanese! The twin room was more than enough space and even though we opted for a private bathroom, we used the public bath every night for the experience. The dinner and breakfasts where first class and felt like we were dining in a fancy restaurant. We were full after each meal.
We would definitely recommend to our friends and family.
Thank you Chalet Shiga.

As advertised. Not an exciting statement I know, and in no way a bad thing. As a westerner not having a private bathroom was scary, but not as bad as I thought it would be. The onsen was a very good substitute. Don't be put off by the prospect. The lounge was very nice and handy for our group, not to mention how good the coffee was. I highly recommend this hotel.

A bit old but well maintained hotel. Friendly and polite staff. Economy room was basic, but tatami mats were new and futons were clean. Owner’s professional photos everywhere. Stylish lobby with a little photo-book library and free coffee. Very pleasant stay.

Chalet Shinga is a charming Japanese inn located in the middle of Ichinose. It’s less than 2 min walk from Inchinose Diamond ski resort, making the location super convenient.

4 of us stayed in Japanese room and there’s plenty of room for all of us. The lounge area on level 2 is beautiful and relaxing.

We opt for the dinner option during our stay and the set dinner was excellent. The portion is generous, we enjoyed our meal every night.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Being able to go into a hot onsen after a long day of skiing is a bonus!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chalet Shiga! The staff went above and beyond to be helpful and were incredibly hospitable during our stay. There was a delicious variety of food in the breakfast buffet and enough to fuel us for a day of skiing. The location of the accomodation is also perfect! The gondolas are a few metres down from the chalet and made it easy to access.

Our room was basic but had all we needed. We were pleased to find that despite being described as “shared bathroom”, we still had a toilet and sink in the room. The proximity to the ski lifts was a huge bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed with our two teenage boys and really enjoyed our week at Chalet Shiga. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were spacious and comfortable.
The coffee lounge also a great idea and the Teppa Room is a great place to sit and have a quiet drink after a long day on the slopes.
Would certainly recommend to others.

I am staying at Chalet Shiga right now and we have had a fantastic experience. The common areas of the lodge are very nice and updated. Nice flooring on stairs, great artwork around the walls. The reception is a very pleasant space with an area to sit, read, have coffee. The staff have been very friendly and helpful.

We are staying in a two bedroom western style room with our own bathroom. The option to have the bathroom in the room was great for my young son who didn’t feel comfortable using the common bath. The common bath has been amazing, especially after a day of skiing.

The room is comfortable and spacious. I have been able to sneak in and out of the room without waking my son: so no creaky doors or floors. The carpet could use an upgrade, but I suppose you are to be wearing the slippers in the room so perhaps this isn’t a big priority. It was totally fine for us. The room can be warm, but with the window cracked open we were very comfortable. You can also turn off the radiator in the room with a dial.

The breakfast was quite good with plentiful options. The highlight though was the set meal dinner. We were only able to reserve one night of the dinner of our three nights here, and I wish I could have gotten all three nights. The meal was quite special, including a sampling of so many small appareizers, and meals. The presentation was gorgeous and all of it was delicious. I highly highly recommend trying to do the dinner meal here.

We could use a lot more snow on the hills, but we still had a good day skiing on Jan 2. It was almost all groomers.
Overall Chalet Shiga has been a great place to stay.

Heating: No issue, in fact we left our windows slightly open for fresh air
Rooms are large. We stayed in the Japanese room. Clean and comfortable.
Breakfast is sufficient although lacks variety. For 6 days we had same food.
Ski Rentals were good and very convenient within the same hotel
Main Issue: the onsen closes from 7.30am - 1pm. Breakfast starts from 7am. Ski slopes starts 8.30am. Wouldve hv very mych liked it if Onsens would close from 8.30 or 9am, so we can get breakfast, some time on the potty and a washup before hitting the slopes! :( :)
Location is impeccable. Cross the road 100m ski down to the ichinose diamond lift. End day ski back on the pedestrian ice path. Practically ski in n out

Great chalet. Extremely friendly staff who are always willing to help. Thank you all so very much. Exceptional quality in the food provided. Traditional Japanese dinner and combination of Japanese and western breakfast. Super friendly and very convenient ski and snowboard hire within the chalet at competitive prices. Great common area where tea, coffee and water are provided. We came with our 2 kids for 1 week boarding. Totally recommend Chalet Shiga. One of our friends stayed elsewhere and totally agreed Chalet Shiga is a much better place to stay. If we came back to Shiga Kogen, we would definitely stay here again. We gave 4/5 for the room because the room was very warm (too warm for us initially) and the heater clunked a bit when you turned it down. But temperature was fine after that. Thank you very very much Chalet Shiga and all the staff. We really appreciate your hospitality.

What a beautiful experience here at Chalet Shiga. The staff are exceptionally attentive, rooms spotless, and meals delicious. We were able to literally ski to the door of the hotel and rent all our ski gear from downstairs too. I am pescatarian and the staff made extra efforts to accommodate even though this was not usual for them. The onsen is very traditional and also very clean and relaxing. Thank you Chalet Shiga.

My mom and I stayed at Chalet Shiga for 4 nights. And we’ve experienced amazing and wonderful services in this hotel. Not only the food, but also the front desk manager’s kindness, all employees’ services, the room quality, the ski/snowboard rental service, the public bath, the safety, the teppa room service, everything in here made us feel like home. And also, the pictures that the owner of the hotel have taken has amazed me and my mom. We really love your photographic work! They are truly incredible and beautiful, it’s great to see them while walking in the hotel! My family and I have been to many places in Japan during winter vacation to ski. I can say that Chalet Shiga is THE ONLY HOTEL that makes me feel nostalgic, happiness, and sadness. Because we are really sad to leave this wonderful place. We will definitely come back next year, hope all is well! Hope all the employees in Chalet Shiga can stay healthy and happy! 😊 happy new year!

Amazing staff, very friendly and very helpful. Great amenities and close distance to everything you would need. 5 minute walk to ski lifts, under 10 minute walk to all sorts of restaurants. Highly recommend!

Spent a week here with my son and really enjoyed it. The hotel is in a fantastic location, practically ski-in ski-out. The service was great and so was the food

Stayed here in mid March 2023 for 6 nights. I was a little surprised entering the reception, how modern this hotel was. And I can see how this hotel will easily fit the bill for international (and local) travellers. We opted for the large traditional style rooms (tatami mats & futon beds), as it gave flexibility in case other friends decided to join. The room we got was just huge, there were only 2 of us, their website says it fits up to 4 people.. but I reckon it could cater for up to 6 (for a cosy stay).
Our room was on Level 3 which was perfect as it is on the same level as the large communal bath/onsen - which I used everyday at 530am; and then again in the evening after hitting the slopes.
Our room had a toilet, although it didn't have the fancy bidet/bum spray. However there was a communal toilet on our level, which did have the fancy heated seat/bum spray etc.
The mountain vista from our room window was just spectacular. We didn't have a balcony, not that I would use it much in winter cold/wind.. but I can see rooms on other floors did have balconies.
Now aside from the large room with amazing views, and easy access to the hotel onsen - if there's one thing that stood out in my stay - it is the dining experience. Absolutely get the dinner set-menu, you will not be disappointed - if anything it is probably too much food for one, but after hitting the slopes it's not really a problem eating more! It's both a visual and tasting experience. The breakfast buffet which caters for both western & Japanese local taste, is also highly recommended.
As my package included both breakfast & dinner at the hotel, I did get to familiarise with the restaurant staff whom were just absolute angels, and went out of their way to help with any questions, or recommended drinks etc..
The ski rental downstairs had well maintained gear, although availability of snowboard boot size was limited during our stay, so on the first 2 days we had to hire elsewhere.
Being located in Shigakogen Central area, it's a convenient base for exploring all the resorts of Shigakogen. And the hotel is only 2-3minutes walk to the bus stop ("Ichinose ski resort").
I would definitely recommend this hotel - it is a bit more on the pricier side - but with it's central location, the large rooms, the wonderful service by staff, and spectacular dining - I found it to be great value.

I stayed here during Feb 2023. The hotel’s location is amazing. The ski lift is right next door. There’s a lot of nice restaurants, bars, shops nearby. The room is very nice. They clean it everyday. The onsen is amazing. We will definitely come back again. :)

It’s a nice and warm Japanese ski lodge at the Ichinose area in Shigakogen, within walking distance to the chair lifts. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We got 50% off our ski passes with the discount QR code at reception on the day of our check-in. Enjoyed chilling out in the lounge area with freshly made coffee and fire place in the evenings, taking a bath at the onsen, hence not having a shower in our room was not an issue at all. The Japanese breakfast was excellent (based on the price we had paid for the bed and breakfast). We also tried the set menu japanese dinner on our last evening there, which turned out to be amazing and great value for money, compared with other places we had ventured to on other evenings of our stay. Very grateful to the owner who seemed to be so attentive and hard working in serving his guests day-in day-out, so I would highly recommend this place, if you were looking for the traditional japanese ski lodge experience.

We have stayed in many hotels in Shiga Kogen and I can confidently say two things about Shiga Chalet:
1. It is by far and away the best hotel we have stayed at here, and
2. We will be back to this hotel again when we come back.

- The bedrooms are huge, compared to other hotels up here.
- The private bathrooms are wonderful.
- The hotel staff are so lovely and helpful and welcoming.
- The hotels location is excellent to eating out, getting rental gear and getting to Ichinose and Yakebityama snow runs.
- The breakfast and dinner options are excellent.

Shiga Chalet is now our #1 go-to hotel in Shiga Kogen.
