What an amazing trip! We were lucky enough to get a lift from the Ryokan we were staying at, otherwise it would have been around an hour walk. It was a very nice scenic trail towards the park proper, if not a bit slippery! (You need to be quite careful getting to and from the park). Once we got to the park itself admission was 800 yen but definitely worth it as the monkeys were all out and running around, it was such a spectacular sight. Highly recommended visiting the snow monkeys if you get the chance.

I can highly recommend Snow Monkey Resort Tours. Not only is it value for money it is just a fantastic tour. We did the 2 days and stayed within the Temples accomodations and it was just AMAZING! The food the hospitality and of course the Snow Monkeys and the Samurai training were all FANTASTIC!!!! Big shout out to Kevin who found my hubby's phone and returned it to us. LIFE SAFER!!!!

Facts first then fun.
Drive the forest trail if you want a winding, narrow driver through the mountain side. 500 parking fee. 800 entry once at the actual park.
Fun facts- the hike alone was worth the 1300¥. Beautiful riverside turns into a mountain trail. Steep steps at first but not to difficult. Once in the park the monkeys were all over. It was not to cold so none were in the hot springs.
We spent 30 minutes being totally surrounded by the monkeys. I saw the monkeys were looking for seeds and I started looking for them too-DONT DO THAT IT IS AGAINST THE RULES! The park security was nice and pointed to the sign.
Amazing place! Amazing staff! Amazing Monkeys.

Prepare for a walk to see monkeys beware of ice on winter months. Bring proper shoes for walking and staying warm. Great little gift shop. Crowded site but great easy nature walk.

Beautiful walk to the park to see snow monkeys. Final park is at an elevation, so its not very easy to climb up. Buses and trains are very convenient.

A good place for every occasion and everyone. A thirty minutes pleasant walk from the car park. At the entrance to the monkey park, there's the park office where you pay for the fee. There's also toilet. Once you enter there park you can enjoy scenery of all activities of these monkey. The park staff feed them food regularly.

Worthwhile experience through the forest, into the native home of the snow monkeys! Absolutely not possible for anyone with disabilities or accessibility needs, as icy stairs and slippery surfaces.

It gets rather crowded as everyone wanted to take photos, but an absolute must visit regardless. The colder it is, the higher your chances are of seeing the monkeys soaking. Our ryokan recommended we go during the morning as the monkeys make their way back into the forests in the afternoon. PLEASE wear appropriate footwear during the snowy season! We visited mid-December when parts of the trail towards the park was ice and/or mud. Hiking or snow boots are recommended (you can hire them at the start of the trail).

The monkeys are super cute! Love the view along the way to the resort. Don’t bring any plastic bag with food inside. Monkey will grab it aggressively.

It takes a while to get to the park by car or bus, but it's worth it. The trek is nice to get to the hot spring. The monkeys are very laid back and truly enjoy being in the pool. It's usually crowded, so be prepared for that. Worth the time and effort to check it out.

Flashback - what a journey for us. ⛰
3.2 km - walking up and down the hill to check out these unique snow monkeys in the world dipping in their private hot tubs and enjoying onsen in Nagano.

Snow monkeys were amazing to see in their natural habitat and in the hot springs!
Although it is highly populated with people, the monkeys don't seem to have any interaction with them and go about their monkey business.

Great place for day trip from Nagano or Matsumoto, even in spring. The monkeys still hang out around the hot springs. The walk up to the park is nice too, beautiful views.

Fantastic location, and fun place to be. The path up to the monkey park is slippery in winter, so make sure you're wearing good shoes when doing the walking trail.

Nice last minute stop before hiking to jigokudani monkey park. Good selection of supplies, gloves and stuff at very fair prices. If you go in winter definitely get gloves! Also they have nice treads that will go on your shoes to keep you from skipping on the icy parts of the trail.
