Gujo Hachiman Castle

Hike was manageable on gravel terrain, about 15-20mins. Overall, worth the trip up. View was fantastic on a clear day. Castle was closed during new year period, hence there is not a lot of crowd that would obstruct photo-taking.

A crowd lesser compared to the city siblings like Himeji-jo and Osaka-jo. Its completely made of wood and very well preserved for a 3 level castle and it's located up in the hill, thus driving up would be the best choice

Parking on the top parking spot can be quite difficult to get to with a big car. So be warned!

This castle features amazing architecture and some unique features like the different shaped gun ports along the walls. You have a spectacular view of Hachiman from here and there are several hiking trails that connect with other locations nearby.

Truly deserves a perfect rating. A unique gem with some of the friendliest people I have encountered in the country and some of the best mountain views. Fantastic restaurants. Great hida beef dishes and Ramen restaurants. Shabu Shabu you name it. The water tastes better than bottled and every street has classic architecture. Avoid the crowds in Takayama and go to Gujo Hachiman.

Visited there in spring and the view was amazing. I went up by cable car. The building is not that big but you can see whole Gifu from the balcony.

Also, on your way you’ll see a little squirrel house and you can feed them for 600¥ if I remember correctly:) Enjoy this great place in Gifu!

A 20-minute hike to reach the castle is worth it. Such a majestic sight during winter.

Beautiful scenery at the top of Gujo castle and rich history about Japan. Beautiful architecture and very nice history items to be seen. The views are spectacular, you can see Hachiman from here and there are hiking trails that connect to other locations nearby, like the old town and few restaurants. Worth visiting

Worth the walk up the hill, great 360deg view of Gujo.

Very scenic 400 year old historic castle. You can drive up to the door of the castle up the hill but the drive up is very very narrow and steep. We drove an 8 seater up there and the bends were very tight. we had to reverse a couple of times to make it around the bends.

There is a nice scene of the town below and a place to take photos of the castle.

A lovely little castle set on a hill overlooking a picturesque town. Fantastic sunset viewing.

Loved it. Great for hiking, or just drive all the way up.

Beautiful castle. Not so touristy as some other places, maybe due to very high location unreachable for big buses. Splendid views from the castle. One of my favourites in Japan.
