Everything about this hotel is fantastic from the rooms, the food, the onsen, the service — we had an amazing two days here for our honeymoon. This is one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. We did a snowshoe excursion with David who took great care of us and made sure we had an awesome time. Thank you so much to all the staff.

The best holiday I’ve been on thanks to this hotel!

The atmosphere is so serene and relaxing. The hotel itself it’s beautiful, the design and every detail is perfect and thought out.

The staff are beyond charming and thoughtful. My husband got up at 5am to climb the mountain and they packed him a special breakfast and even provided hand warmers and a good luck note.

We arrived unprepared for how cold it was and they provided warm coats and backpacks.

The onsen is stunning and the massage at the spa is one of the best I’ve ever had.

The care and service you get is beyond 5 stars. It’s quiet luxury at its best - homey and relaxing with everything of the highest standard. I came home feeling like a new woman!

This is by far the best hotel I have stayed at in Japan. Think about traditional Ryokan hospitality, with modern hotel facilities and amenities, managed by an international luxury hotel group and this is the result. The view is stunning. The attention to detail in everything is meticulous and deliberate. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the best vacation spot in Japan.

Best hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life so far!

Staff provides highly quality service.

Staging and hotel design gives you low-profile elegant feel! You can feel the hotel has great taste in every detail such as the tableware, beddings and furnitures are all in great taste!

You also can’t forget their onsite hot springs and sauna facilities.

I’ve also try their bar for my dinner - they work with well-known ramen restaurant to create exclusive ramen. Wagyu beef burger is also recommended for burger lovers. On top of that, the cocktail is also on the spot.

Last words for traveling to this hotel - at least spend 2-3 nights here so that you can fully enjoy it

The service is simply extraordinary and exemplary. The facilities are great, i enjoyed the onsen very much. The lake view room had an amazing balcony and private jacuzzi with a perfect view of the wonderful scenery of nikko.

The staff at the Japanese restaurant where kind enough to change the food we ordered cause we had a misunderstanding and we were not charged it shows how the place have high regards of the people staying and providing the best service and experience rather than just trying to charge money. They even made sure to tell all the other staff for our following meals about our dietary needs!

The lake house restaurant served nice Italian food.

We had the afternoon tea set and kyoto matcha tea highly recommended! They provide different types of tea and savory to enjoy.

I would recommend visiting the spa, tried the 60 minutes stress relief massage which was extraordinary.

I would recommend renting the electric bikes and cycle around and visit the near by water fall.

The resort excels at every aspect i would simply recommend it to every person visiting Japan.

One of the most luxurious hotels I've ever been to, RC Nikko was an experience start to finish.

Before I arrived, I contacted concierge and they were very helpful in providing recommendations. I wanted to know whether I needed snow tires to drive to Oku-nikko where the hotel is situated. They also provided me with some restaurant recommendations in both Nikko and Tokyo.

On arrival we were given a welcome drink, tour, and a room upgrade to a room with Lake Chuzenji room thanks to my Marriott status.

The rooms are fabulous, extremely large. Even the cheapest rooms are suite sized. The whole hotel is very luxurious.

Food was another highlight; dinner was a delicious, albeit appropriately expensive A5 Tochigi Beef Shabu Shabu course. For breakfast, we opted for breakfast in our room, where we received one of the most full meals I've ever had in a Japanese hotel - even compared to Ryokans.

The onsen is very interesting; firstly, it's the only RC onsen in the world. Secondly, the onsen water is sulfuric volcanic water, which was quite a unique, if somewhat smelly, experience. I'd say the onsen was also quite dark and a bit hard to navigate around.

Service was fabulous from start to finish and we thoroughly enjoyed our 1 night stay here. Couldn't recommend it more, it's also the best Ritz Carlton I've ever stayed at.

An out of world experience at this place if you ever visit nikko, top notch service, you don’t have to ask them as most of them are proactive and would approach to help you if they see that you need any help.
Where to start? For starters, they have an excellent view of lake chuzenji of which is just a small road apart from the hotel.
Secondly, this hotel is beautiful, it feels like you entered into a modern Japanese mansion and trust me you wouldn’t feel like going out at all!
They have a natural outdoor and indoor onsen of which the lights were thoughtfully dimmed in the onsen area so that first timers or people who are shy in the onsens get more cover.
Checking in was a breeze, felt seamless as you do not have to queue, they would bring you to your seats to have tea and afternoon sweets while a staff would do the process for you while filling you in on the facilities and services in the hotel.
Have I mentioned the room? the lake view rooms are the best, I had one and it was breathtaking, you have to see it for yourself, the tub was huge enough for 2, and you don’t have to squeeze. If you’re really shy you could even have your own mini onsen in your room. I have to add that they even remembered we booked this for our honeymoon and they personally served us the cake only after we checked in and settled down after a while. I was also lucky to spot 4 wild Shika deers who wandered into the hotel compound from my room, which was an open concept hotel, giving the feeling of being one with nature.
There’s just too much to go on about this place so I’ll just leave the review as it is and show you some pictures I took.
Oh yeah and a shout out to Hinata for helping us check in and making us feel like home!

The best of ryokan hospitality with western amenities. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Beautiful lake and mountain vistas in a tranquil setting within walking distance of Kegon Fall. Would recommend making resaurant reservations when booking your room to ensure your choices of meal time.

This is now officially my most favorite hotel in the whole world. This hotels deserves a visit - so add it to you Japan itinerary.
The property is stunning, and the service is just exemplary. Every staff member is kind, generous and gracious.
Have stayed there multiple times and it’s a go to hotel for us for celebrations.
The location is perfect, on Lake Chuzenji and the energy of Oku Nikko is just what anyone needs.
They have amazing activities for all seasons. We’ve now stayed there twice in winter, and once each in Spring and Fall.

I had a wonderful stay where I felt taken care of the moment I arrived. Staff were incredibly thoughtful, accommodating, and kind — and made note of all my likes and dislikes. I felt spoiled! Thank you so much to the lovely staff including Itsuki, Juri, Aya, Yutaka, Jake, Ryo, and many others whose names I did not get/remember. You all made my stay an unforgettable and outstanding experience!

The location of the hotel is great — Chuzenji Lake is right across the road, 10 minute walk to Kegon Falls, and about 30 minute drive to Tochigi area. Rooms were immaculate, beautiful, and spacious. I stayed in the Lake View King. Japanese and Western breakfast at The Japanese Restaurant had a great variety and were delicious and filling. I especially enjoyed the consommé from the Lakeside restaurant where I dipped fresh baked buttered bread into.

Nikko is so hauntingly beautiful and otherworldly. I highly recommend The Ritz Carlton in Nikko and hope to visit again someday soon!

We celebrated my birthday lunch at the Lakeview, the restaurant at the Ritz Carlton Nikko. It was such an amazing and flawless experience with great service! Highly recommended!

Lakeview is vegetarian and vegan friendly as well and can customize meals to suit your dietary preferences.

The seasonal vegetables of Nikko were cooked to perfection! Lovely experience and great service by Mr.Anjaan!

The delicate service and facility of Ritz-Carlton won't fail you. You surely appreciate the architecture, delicate interior design, and fresh flower arrangement and indoor plants. The restaurants of Japanese and Italian dining are great. It is really pleasant to dine while watching the sunset over the lake. We stay in a lake-view room. The water fall in O-Nikko is just 5 min walk away. Trails are pretty scenic for hiking and mountain hiking if you are an outdoor person. Bus stops right at the hidden entrance of Ritz. Really enjoy the stay.

My grandmother visited this hotel a little more than 20 years ago. Chasing after an old postcard of her, I found it on April 28th. After mentioning the reason for coming, the very kind and attentive hotel staff gave me some gifts & memories to bring back home to my grandmother, who was very surprised & happy. Even though I was not a hotel guest, everyone I interacted with was extremely welcoming, thoughtful, and warm. Thank you very much for this wonderful moment!

Nested along the banks of Lake Chuzenji this Ritz is a quiet gem, perfect for a weekend getaway from buzzing Tokyo - take the train to Nikko and then Taxi (7,000 yen) or bus (1,000yen) to the lake. The rooms are spacious with amazing views over the Lake, if you're lucky you can see the sunset from your balcony. I had dinner at the Lake House, ask for a table by the fireplace - very soothing! Food was delicious, the afternoon tea is a delight too! The hotel also offers some great activities such as a morning walk to the nearby temple! A highlight was also the onsen with outdoor bath! My stays so far have all been perfect with service being personalized and meeting the expected top Ritz Carlton level.

One of the best places to stay in this area. It’s right across from the lake and has great views from the hotel.
We’ve been here quite a few times in different seasons.
The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. Big thank you to guest experience staff who always do such a great job - they never fail to impress. We’ve been star gazing, hiking, bike riding and exploring local shrines. Thank you as always!

The guest experience team is a blast here, and also many other staff.

Only 2 weak points: check-in staff at front desk (not the girls in kimono…the staff sitting at desk), and Japanese restaurant food is mostly chilled so has room to improve

As in all Ritz-Carlton properties, the service standards at RC Nikko were Impeccable, Impressive, Personal and Consistent. There is a whole list of ladies and gentlemen from this property I had interacted with and as always Give credit where credit is due.
1. Takahiro Ishibuchi who welcome us with a room check in and explaining in details the facilities and how to get to town etc.
2. Ryo Kato personally welcome us and extended his name card should we need any assistance.
3. Front Office staff Amirul Zulkifli (Singapore), Takehiro, Itsuki Sugiura, Nozomi assisted with our taxi reservation, sightseeing queries, restaurant recommendations etc with added tips.
4. Gita (Bay of Bengal), Jack (Brazil) and Zuki from Housekeeping were a great team taking care of our room amenities replenishment for the 2 days we were in house. They were so meticulous and was such a joy watching them do the replenishment at the same time answering all my queries about how they love working at The Ritz-Carlton Nikko.
5 I leave the BEST for the last. We did 2 activities provided by the hotel. The NightGlaze and The Furoshiki Art. The Stargazing was the best (see photo) ever and the Furoshiki Art was so fun. Abigael Ariella (Indonesia) and Yumi took us on the Stargazing trip and it was out of this world. At first I was a little worried to be driven very dark in the night by 2 very young ladies but trust me, they are very experienced and we had a great time with Abigael pointing out some of the Constellation of Stars and she even took a photo of us in silhouettes. She also coordinated the Furoshiki Art session and we learned so much from her.
I had stayed at different Ritz Carltons to know what it takes to be a great Ladies & Gentlemen of the famed chain. RC Nikko indeed trained her very well and even though she is very new at this property. I hope they keep and groom this gem and polish her further and she will shines even brighter. I was truly super impressed with this young lady.
Tip: Although local bus 25 stops right in front of the hotel from Tobu Nikko station, I believe the last bus was at about 6.05pm. Our departure was at 5.30am to catch the 6am train to Sapporo, the quote for taxi fare to the station was SGD100. Plan with that in mind.
