Okinawa Prefectural Police driver's license center

The practical driver's test fir converting to a Japanese driver's license is not easy to pass the first time. Normally takes 2 to 3 tries according to the staff. Only 1 person out of about 20 passed when I tried the first time.

Lunch time between 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. international license drivers go straight to counter #3. Remember the picture and only cash.

Today I came here and renewed my Japanese driver license. Also get international driver license. They did a great job! Pretty good service! Appreciate it!☺🙏

Window 11 is for converting foreign license to Japanese license. They do not except walk ins, you must make an appointment. In 2017 they stopped taking walk-ins and changed to “Reservation Priority System”.

Hours are Monday- Friday 0830-1100, 1330-1500.
* I’ve been here twice now at 1300 and they helped me prior to 1330*

On my first appointment I had to wait 5 weeks to be seen. When I showed up and provided all my documents, I waited about 1 hour. They wrote me a letter in Japanese explaining everything I was missing. After collecting the missing documents I came back a week later and they said I needed another appointment. It is very important to bring all your required documents the first go around.

Required documents:
1. Residence Card
2. Passport
3. Drivers license photo x2 3cmx2.4cm
4. Juminhyo - resident paper you get from city hall
5. Bring all of your drivers license, even if expired
6. Translated copy of your valid drivers license JAF
SOFA license. If you turned in your SOFA license your screwed.
*Do not turn your SOFA license into your employer. Keep it or bring it to pass and registration and ask them to write you a letter saying you turned it into them. They do not have to and a lot of times refuse. But if your nice and persistent and go there on a slow day, you may have luck. Then give a copy of the letter to your previous employers.*

8. You also need to show proof that the dates on your license show you have been driving for 90 days. You also need a document that shows you physically lived in that country and drove. (High school diploma, lease, etc...)
9. Screenshots of webpage you used to get your transcripts and driving record. You must provide the URL Domain for the webpage.

The licensing officer has became very strict with their rules because of dishonesty. Fake licenses and documents. They need valid, undeniable proof.

If you have international drivers license and you want to get Japanese one better go there it's safe and it's fast but they have a very strict rules about the authenticity of your documents

Got my international DL here. Passport Photo taken here, payment, license. Everything took around 10 min on a weekday. Very efficient.

Their disciplin is really inspiring.

Perfect place

早めに到着して受付や手続きをするようにとハガキにあったのでできるだけ早めに着くようにしました。

自分が体験したある日の優良運転者講習の流れ。

8時00分 免許センターに到着。
8時10分 1階で書類チェック。
8時40分 視力検査～写真撮影を完了。

早く到着したおかげで順調に済ますことができた。

講習会場は2階。
階段で2階に上がると売店を見つける。
売店には飲み物や弁当が売っていたので、早く受付を終わらせてから講習までの待ち時間に朝ごはんの弁当を食べるのもよいかもと思った。

廊下の椅子で15分ほど待機してから指定された講習室の中へ。
すると部屋は既に満席。
自分はテーブルがある席に座れたが、遅くに来てテーブル席に空きが無くなると廊下側の補助席みたいな場所に座ることになるようだ。

9時30分 SDカードの説明。
9時45分 講習スタート。
10時15分 講習終了。

番号順に新しい免許証を手渡し。
持ち帰りたいと言えば穴を開けた旧免許証を返してくれる。
出入口のところで1,000円寄付(任意)
SDカード発行690円。

10時25分 全て完了。

参考になれば幸いです。
建物が新しく広くて綺麗な免許センターで良かったです。中部の免許センターは建物はボロいし駐車場も狭くて停めるのに大変だった記憶が。

この日は免許証更新のために午後からの仕事でしたが、時間に余裕があったので近くのイーアスで買い物してランチする時間までありました。
この日はたまたま空いていたのかもしれませんがなるべく早く到着するのがおすすめです。

1月初電話預約「外国免許切替え」，今天來拍照提交材料，同時預約筆試和路考時間。大廳整潔有序，工作人員態度很好。

１０月８日日曜日、免許証更新しました、午後１４時３０分頃、手続きしてスムーズに更新できました３０分講習 色はもちろんゴールド、次回 は５年後です😃
