A great farden, a lot of flowers, a big pond, ans very clean place. The garden is really carefully taken care by the gardener. Amazing place. It cost 500yen to enter the garden but it is super worth your time

An incredibly large temple, a great stop if you are in the area. There were many signs to see the cloud dragon painting within the temple as well as admission to various other shrines and temples which you may or may not have to pay for. The goshuin was completely stamped (no calligraphy), but I think is still incredibly pretty.

Beautiful temple right next to the Arashiyama bamboo grove. I liked how some of the sliding doors are open so you can peek inside some of the rooms. Also a large garden area in case you want to escape the crowds.

A lovely temple hides in the Arashiyama. The back entrance are linked to the famous bamboo forest. Requires an entrance fee to access. The garden is not very huge but has a lot of maple trees and plant. Has a clean trail to move around. Good place to spend after your visit to the bamboo forest.

The gardens here are spectacular! Especially when there is a slight drizzle of rain, and the leaves are itching to change color for autumn. If you get a chance sit down and do a little zen meditation. Yes, there will always be crowds but it is lovely to escape with some deep breathing.

World Cultural Heritage site. When in Kyoto, visit the "Temple of the Heavenly Dragon" established 1339 AD. See brochure and map of the temple grounds.

What is also memorable is the surrounding bamboo forest next to the "North Gate/North Entrance." Our tour guide took us through this entrance to see the amazing bamboo forest and probably to avoid the long lines at the main entrance. Smart, but a longer scenic walk to the Main Hall and Sogen water garden.

This is the best temple and garden I visited in Kyoto. It’s beautiful, peaceful, not as crowded, and very unique. Every frame is picture perfect. There is ample space to sit and enjoy the scenery. Very well maintained too. Must visit

Free temple to walk through and explore. Most of the temples leading up to the main one were either closed off or not available to see, which was a little disappointing but completely understandable that they are probably private spiritual places. The main temple was very impressive, and the architecture of all the buildings is impressive to say the least.

This is the first temple we visited after landing in Kyoto. Great building and old-fashioned street view.

Just remember if you take the JR train, like JR Pass holders, you will need to get off the Saga-Arashiyama Station, 嵯峨嵐山駅. The train station which is closer is Torokko Arashiyama Sta.トロッコ嵐山駅 and it is not a JR train( not sure when it is running or how to get the ticket). So there is a it of walk from JR station to this temple.

Tenryu-ji is beautiful, unique, serene, full of history, and a wonderful temple to visit in Kyoto.

This was one of my favorite parts of our Kyoto trip. We visited in late December and were luckily able to purchase tickets to walk through the large and small hojo buildings (“shoin”). Personally, this was a dream come true to be able to walk through these beautiful halls and rooms.

The garden is a “Special Place of Scenic Beauty of Japan” – it is abundantly clear why it’s earned its amazing designation. Before we walked inside, we spent a very long time walking around the gorgeous gardens.

Friendly tip: the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is a short walk away. Definitely visit it before or after Tenryu-ji.

Came on the weekend so there were a lot of tourists. I bought a garden ticket instead of a combo of both garden and temple tickets. It was raining that day, but it didn't reduce the beauty of the garden. Really worth a look!

Another world heritage site that is worth visiting. Paid an admission fee of 500 yen for adult and 300 yen for kids (between 6 to 15 years old) to walk around the temple. You can pay extra 300 yen to walk in the inside the temple with guided tour.

When in Arashiyama, don't forget to visit Tenryu-ji Temple. It's a beautiful temple with a pond.

We can buy the ticket on the spot. If you want to enter the temple, you need to pay more.

Beautiful and large. A lovely entrance into the Arashiyama. We came with our photographer and had beautiful photos.
Moderately busy on a Sunday afternoon in February.

There is a entrance fee but it is 💯 worth the entrance fee. Absolutely breathtaking garden. Especially during sunset 🌇. You can take amazing pictures and there are not too many people. The central pond is full of amazing fish and the central building can be walked inside. Really majestic and humbling knowing this place has been around for such a long time.

A marvel with lush gardens, skip the crowds to the Bamboo lane, just enter there through the garden exit directly. Much to enjoy.

Amazing scenery, very historic place. I suggest getting temple+garden tickets because we only got the garden access and it was scorching hot out there and people were sitting comfortably inside the temple while we had to search for a spot in the shades. It’s a very scenic place to take pictures, also a great place to hike.

Near Arashiyama bamboo forest. Temple of the cloud dragons with beautiful garden and unique omamori -good luck charms.

Tenryuji (天龍寺, Tenryūji) is the most important temple in Kyoto's Arashiyama district. It was ranked first among the city's five great Zen temples, and is now registered as a world heritage site. Tenryuji is the head temple of its own school within the Rinzai Zen sect of Japanese Buddhism.

Tenryuji was built in 1339 by the ruling shogun Ashikaga Takauji. Takauji dedicated the temple to Emperor Go-Daigo, who had just passed away. The two important historic figures used to be allies until Takauji turned against the emperor in a struggle for supremacy over Japan. By building the temple, Takauji intended to appease the former emperor's spirits.
