Loved our sumo experience. It was the highlight of our trip so far.
The Sumo were so nice and came up to say hi after and let us take pictures with them. The host was very informative and friendly! Would booked again in a heartbeat.

Attending a sumo training session upclose was unforgettable - it was incredible to see the sumo spar together and witness the practice, as well as learn more about the cultural history of the sport. As the practice was wrapping up, some of the wrestlers came over to ask questions and interact with the guests. Plus, there was a great chance to take pictures at the end of the experience too!

I attended the Kintsugi gold repair private workshop in Kyoto yesterday. It was truly an amazing and fun experience. The Master explained very well the steps and guided me all the way. Nori the interpreter made everything easier. My “masterpiece” will be a reminder of this heart filling memory. Thank you!

Deeper Japan gave us incredible support for our documentary production. As an English-speaking team, having a guide and translator elevated not only our project but our personal experience in Japan. I highly recommend the Deeper Japan team and will definitely be working with them again in the future.

Deeper Japan has great master classes!
The masters are very thoughtful and thorough in their explanation.
I just went to a swordsmith’s studio and saw a live sword in action. I even got to hold it! What a cool experience! I highly recommend!

We had an amazing local food market experience in Japan, thanks to Hikaru who showed us around with Chef Masaru. The market was not touristy and we saw locals and chefs buying fresh produce. Chef Masaru purchased ingredients for his Izakaya, and we were lucky to taste his delicious food. It was a great way to learn about the culture and cuisine of Japan.

Staff are very communicative, clear, and professional. Tour was a joy as everyone made me feel warm and welcome. Interesting and different tours offered in northern Japan (Hokkaido) really spice up the idea of travelling in Japan.

I joined a Deeper Japan tour of a traditional artist's studio that far exceeded my expectations. The artist and his crafts were superb, and the Deeper Japan staff was extremely professional. The tour group size was very small which made the whole experience seem personalized to me. I had the sense I had truly spent the day in old-world Japan. Without question, I absorbed more of this traditional art through Deeper Japan's tour than I could have any other way. The tour was a bargain considering its overall quality, and I intend to investigate their other offerings on any future trip.

Deeper Japan offers a wonderful experience. It is very nice to talk to and get to know masters of traditional Japanese arts. This is not something you can do through the usual tour. If you want to experience authentic Japanese culture, Deeper Japan is your best choice.

A very interesting and well run tour by the team from Deeper. The sake brewery tour was very well done and the brewer who led the tour was informative and fun.

The dinner afterwards was one of the best that i have had and the team at the restaurant was also engaging.

An authentic experience thst gets to the heart of the food and drink of the north of Japan. Great rapport between the staff at Deeper and the people at the brewery and restaurant made the whole experiences relaxing and fun. I would highly recommend.

Attended the flag dyeing workshop in Asahikawa yesterday. What a great experience! The history of both the company and the process added a deeper understanding of the experience. Mr. Kondo was very patient and encouraging. Highly recommend this workshop!

I think this is the deepest gateway to the authentic exposure to Japanese culture and traditions, hidden gems that even Japanese people aren't aware of, amazing restaurants and tour recommendations. I experienced the real soul of Toyooka and what's beyond it. Absolutely recommended! A must have experience in Japan for whoever can go for it.

If I could give it more stars I would. Hikaru from Deeper Japan helped organize an experience where we went to the real fish market to buy ingredients with chef Masaru and that night we ate all the amazing food at his izakaya. Japanese food is so diverse and you need someone to walk you through the dishes and explain them just like they did!! Do it at the beginning of your trip! So much insight and delicious food in one!!

Passionate in offering unique experiences that you can explore Japanese history and culture. I have met a number of people who’s taken their masterclasses but yet to see anyone who left without a big smile on their faces.
Keep up the good work.

The soba making experience we did through Deeper Japan was simply wonderful. We were humbled by the opportunity to learn from the masters and create our own soba noodles. Every aspect of the process, from kneading the dough to cutting the noodles, was done with such precision and care and time was taken to carefully go through each step with us. The master took time to answer thoughtfully and we were made to feel very welcome by both the soba chef and his wife.

Having Satoshi (Deeper Japan Director) meet us at the train station and walk us to the restaurant, was so helpful and we enjoyed getting to know him also as we sat down together to eat the noodles that we had prepared.

We feel so grateful for this experience. It was a true highlight of our time in Japan and one we will never forget.

My wife and I booked several Deeper Japan experiences in Kyoto in November 2020 and greatly enjoyed them. It was easy to communicate with them via email and our in-person facilitator(s) were very nice and enjoyable to spend time with.

I highly recommend anyone looking to have a more personal cultural experience in Japan to check them out. If you are not fluent in Japanese it can be difficult to enjoy a lot of the activities this country can offer, Deeper Japan helps you bridge those gaps.
