Had some spare time before catching a flight so I spontaneously visited this museum the museum starts on the second floor this isn’t a full day out if you are on your own without children present. You can look at old handmade toys etc some games are interactive. What I remember the most is how welcoming staff were I was approached by a lady who worked there she knew perfect English we started having a chat she was very curious about me where I was from etc I really enjoyed talking with this staff member she was lovely I believe Japanese customer service has got to be the best. Wherever you maybe Isaac from the uk 🇬🇧 says hello 👋 and take care thank you for making my experience at the museum memorable.

Our family adventure at the Tokyo Toy Museum was an absolute hit, especially coming all the way from Australia with our 18-month-old and 9-year-old. What struck us most was the warm and welcoming vibe from the staff – they were not only friendly but incredibly accommodating. Navigating the museum with an Aussie accent and curious kids in tow was made so much easier thanks to their kindness.

Our son, in particular, had a ball. He not only explored an abundance of toys but also managed to make a bunch of little friends along the way. It was heartwarming to see the older staff thrilled to engage with our son, creating an atmosphere that felt like an extended family. The genuine hospitality made our visit memorable, and the handmade paper cuttings were the perfect touch, giving us a sweet reminder of the friendliness that permeated the Tokyo Toy Museum. For English Speaking / Aussie families seeking a playful and heartwarming experience, this museum is an absolute must-visit.

Fantastic place for kids. Well managed with volunteers who will help you with games and rules if asked. Two floors with around 8 theme based rooms. We went on weekend but it was still okay - not too crowded. Booked the tickets online beforehand but saw some people buying tickets at the reception (their website says online ticket reservations only). You will definitely need google maps to reach the place if you are walking from the station. We took a cab so reaching the place was fast.

Although the place is mainly for kids, saw some Couples having some quality time with board games room at 3rd floor. Seriously considering yo take their half yearly pass. Will be worth it I think.

Just 2 things I did not like and May be they can improve upon:
1. If you are with an Infant, The nursery room is pretty basic, with just a plain bench, no covers / privacy (when breastfeeding) … and no place to keep baby while you make bottle milk. They can do better arrangement I think.
2. They allow re-entry only on weekdays I think. So on weekends, if you exit (mostly to eat/drink the food you might have brought with you), you can’t go in again. I mean the kids are bound to get hungry after some time so there should be some place to refresh within the museum area.

Tip: there is a toy workshop on 3rd floor with some pre-defined start times. It’s better if you check out their schedule as soon as you reach the place so you attend it for sure. Else by the time you finish 2nd floor and go to 3rd floor, you (and the kid) are already too tired :)

An excellent experience for the small and not so small members of the family. The museum delivers a good cross-section on the history of Japanese toys. It also has them divided with themes of similarity to different sections of the museum. A nice addition is are both the playground area as well as a workshop where you can craft your own toys.

Enjoyed my visit to the toy museum! Went with 2 toddlers. There was an infant play room for 1 hour, play materials are made of wood and natural materials, colour theme of the room is neutral colours too. Absolutely grounding and therapeutic for the kids (:

The staff were extremely patient and helpful too. They demonstrated ways to use the different toys, and interacted with my toddlers! My kids had such a great time they didn’t want to leave the museum.

Lovely and friendly staff, with lots of creative activities for toddlers, and young children! Upstairs has an activity room with scheduled sessions, which was fun!

Online tickets were marginally cheaper than at the door — pick up from the 7-Eleven around the corner!

A great place to explore and play for the kids. My toddler really enjoyed it here. It's even good for adults. The entrance fee is affordable too for only 800 yen. Highly recommended!

Visited with a 7 and a 9 year old. Both found immense enjoyment, especially on the upper floor with a variety of competitive games and puzzles. Almost everything can be touched and played with. Numerous patient, kind and passionate workers will help with learning. Old things are new again here, a special place housed in an elementary school building.

A very family friendly museum. All exhibitions are interactive. You can easily spend a couple of hours inside. I recommend going no near closing time so you can try to make toys in the workshop. The toys are mostly traditional and in the store you can buy them!

Came here with an 18months old and a 9year old, both had an absolute blast. Pretty much all the toys can be played with(except a few special collections) and it was great fun for kids and adults to explore the offerings together.

We came on a weekday and it wasn’t too busy at all. And we didn’t need to pre-book.

We also loved the little hand made paper cuttings which made a lovely souvenir.

A fun place to take your kids and for parents. Multiple floors and rooms dedicated to hand made wooden toys that are fun, educational, and really well designed. I’ve been there with kids ages 1-5 and they all love it. We’ve been twice and both times spent 3-4hours.

The building is originally from Junior High School and not used anymore. They operated until 3rd floor.
On the 1st floor, is baby playground area,
2nd floor is the ticketing area (children ¥500, adult ¥800, adult+children ¥1200)
a lot of good kind of wooden toy display and toodler playground area, there is ball pit inside.
3rd floor there is drawing room and toodler playroom & museum. It’s super educate for us! The toy from early age is wonderful.

Good to know have some kind of this museum. The kids can play freely also. Service there is awesome, they explain all the toys work! The also have good nursing room. We will surely come again!!

You need to use google maps to come here and you need to bring children. It's basically a good indoor playground for your child. If you like toys you may like it too otherwise just let your child explore all the toys. The staffs are very helpful and they have bundling price 1.200 yen for 1 child and 1 adult. They have baby roon and you can also breastfeed there.

The Tokyo Toy Museum was simply a delight from start to finish. Housed in an old elementary school, the museum has thousands of lovely toys our grandparents would have recognized made from wood and cloth.

Total bonus was the wooden hospital complete with MRI/ CT suites.

A wooden ball pit? How about a car that contains a music box?
My very energetic toddler spent hours here and not once did I hear a request for iPad. I love how much emphasis was placed on having seniors play with children through toys- fun was very much had on both sides.

The gift shop was dedicated to Japanese artisanal toys : somewhere on the spectrum between art piece and toy.

Spend some time with your family here.
In the classrooms of a former pre-war school building, there are more than 15,000 toys that can be enjoyed from children to the elderly.

The friendly staff will be happy to inform and show you some toys.

You can even get a locally-made, heart-caring and wooden toy A toy factory with recycled materials is also open every day.
Here, kids invent their own toys (the exhibition of the toys shows the imagination and the richness of ideas. In large measure is amazing).

In the gift shop, you will find hand made wooden toys and treasures for little money.

It’s less a museum but more a playhouse for kids to try out different kinds of toys. Very worth it though the entrance fee isn’t cheap

Hundreds of toys on display. The building used to be an actual school! The best thing is you and kids can play them! Highly recommended for parents with kids!
