We had a blast! Beautiful scenery with the ice caves and glacier! Fun ride out in a super jeep and a great tour guide ziggy! He was fun and helped with everything. One of the highlights of our Iceland trip and worth every penny (or krona)

An epic experience. From the ride in the beast of a vehicle, to the small walk across the vast scenery, the ice cave and the unreal hole in the ice with the sunset-lit mountain-scape in the background, we had such a memorable time. We reckon we had best tour guide too Haukur! Funny and informative, nothing like having a true Icelander share about the history and the marvels of his homeland. He took the time to let us take in and enjoy the surroundings!

We were incredibly fortunate to have the clearest of skies, and come through in winter with the topping of white snow for that extra picturesque dazzle.

This is a late review but we wanted to still leave one as we had such an amazing time and Troll were great from first contact to dropping us off afterwards.

Myself and my Husband done the Katla Ice Cave tour on 15th July 2023 on day 8 of our 21 day road trip and it was worth every penny! There were 3 trucks in our tour group and everything was so smoothly run and organised. Quite rightly so these tours are very expensive; so we know from our own research how reassuring reviews can be when you’re spending your hard earned money on something so special, and want to know you’re choosing the right company. We chose well!

The weather was great, our guide was Maria. She was totally fantastic, very friendly, knowledgeable and funny. Told us great stories of local history and culture and about herself and some of the things she’d done in her life including being a mountaineer amongst other awe inspiring jobs and hobbies!

Maria was a fantastic guide. I am terrified of heights, and knew there were several bridges to cross to get into the cave. However, this was not an issue, Maria held my hand over them all, she talked to me and sang songs and gave so much reassurance. There were a couple of others that needed help too and she was there for all of us. The first couple of bridges I was so scared, there were no handrails just a thin plank of wood, my legs were shaking and I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it, but Maria was so calm, relaxed and just led the way holding my hands tight, by the 3rd bridge I had lost the nerves, my legs had calmed down and I managed all the other bridges there and back with no worries at all. Maria is a legend and I definitely would not have been able to experience this amazing place without her.

We had such am amazing time, it is a once in a lifetime thing to do, but if we get the chance again, we will definitely try to do another one!

Thank you to all the great team at Troll, fantastic service and we can’t recommend highly enough! We hope to see you again one day!

I definitely recommend this tour company. I feel bad I missed the young tour-lady's name, but she did an amazing job. Entertaining, educational, and friendly.

There is a bit of a hike, but the tour company provides equipment to make it easy and safe.

Troll Expeditions did it again! We absolutely loved our Katla ice cave hike with Arnie! We traveled to the cave (about 40 minutes) in a van and then started the uphill hike. We were given microspikes and helmets. The hike was not hard, a few slippery spots to navigate but fairly easy. The trek through the caves includes crossing many small bridges. They have ropes and wooden rails for stability. My teenagers did better on these than I did! I was scared - but the caves and waterfalls were SO amazing and worth it! Arnie kept us safe and gave us interesting information along the way. Then we began the descent down and over the bridges back to the van. Highly recommend!

Amazing experience with an amazing guide ! Our group was awesome, with my friend we were like the two adoptees of the group, it was very funny :) Thank you very much to Natalia for everything (photos, explanation, etc). The ride to the ice cave was awesome. I recommend !

We did the Katka ice cave tour in late November, and had a fantastic experience. The tour was easy to book, the meet-up process was very efficient, and the trip was great. Our guide was Talis, and he was very charming and kind. He made sure we didn’t fall into any icy abysses, gave us some good information about local geology, and played great Icelandic music in the jeep. I would recommend this to someone looking for a memorable experience.

One of the best experiences in Iceland and possibly in my whole life! Throughly enjoyed every second, made the whole trip worth it, went on the first week of June and the glacier is melting rapidly! Fabio was the best guide :) did the 6pm tour there was no rush and the best time to go! Avoid the mornings where there’s up to 200 people. At 6pm it was just our group of 14 with a group leaving just as we entered so we had the whole cave and glacier to ourselves

The katla ice cave visit is a must.
We were guided by Natalia and honestly couldn't have asked for better.
Right at the start she was super kind and very helpfull.
She explained everything in detail without being boring.
The ice cave itselfe is amazing. It's hard to describe it by words.
It's definetly a must

We had the 4 hour Katla ice cave tour and it was amazing! Granted, you have to be in a tour with 25 other strangers but this is one of the only ways to view the ice caves, which change frequently based on the water channelling.

You have to ride a 45 minute super jeep to the parking area of the ice cave and then walk about 20 minutes through snow to enter the caves. The walk can be quite tiring as you're walking through thick snow and it's very windy which makes everything colder.

Once in the caves, it's beautiful and you can see and touch amazing layers of ice. You don't need to bring crampons as they provide you those as well as a hard hat.

A word of advice: make sure you bring bottled water, eat a hearty meal and use the restroom before you head out as there are no places to do any of that on this 4 hour tour. Also, wear waterproof snow pants and thick coat, good gloves, thermals, and waterproof boots. After a couple of hours your toes will need some heating.

Amazing experience! Was worth it!
We had amazing guide Maria that told us about changes in glacier. Jeep drive was cool and I got to sit in front passenger side, got to see all the views!
Tour through glacier ice caves was adventurous and exciting!

This was an amazing experience and a must do when going to Iceland. It was much more involved than I was anticipating. Our tour guide, Natalia, was awesome. Encouraged us to take our time and take in the experience as well as had a lot of knowledge around the glacier. She even took a group picture for us. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Prepare to get wet though.

My husband and I did the Katla Ice Cave tour in October '22. The guide was personable, informative, and fun. We met up at the prescribed location hopped in the adventure van and drove out to the glacier and the entrance to the ice cave. It was super fun and a great memory! The guide took this amazing photo too! The one I had initially posed for didn't come out half as good!

I was not even told to review them nor given any reward for doing so, I just wanted to post a review that reflected my actual lived experience. It was just really fun.

Check in was a breeze. Our tour of the ice cave and surrounding otherworldly area was fantastic. Our guide and driver Natalia was informative, friendly, patient and just all around great. Wonderful experience. Happy birthday Natalia 😉 😆

What a beautiful experience! It wasn’t the longest hike because it took 45 minutes (a bumpy ride so be warned if you get motion sickness) to get to the glacier from Vík, but still totally worth it. The ice caves were incredibly beautiful! Our tour guide, Árni was really nice and very knowledgeable. Overall a fantastic experience.

An amazing private adventure at sunrise in the glacier. Make extra sure you don't have vertigo as climbing into the glacier is extremely scary if you do! Other than that, both guides were absolutely amazing and we loved every second of this beautiful adventure! Thank you again so much!!

This was an experience unlike any other. Being led onto the glacier and through the ice caves was breath-taking and otherworldly. As we stood at the Portal looking out, it is a memory that will forever be with us. We cannot recommend this enough and wish everyone the ability to see and learn about Katla.

Our tour guide Ace made this tour a blast!! He made jokes, told us the history, and shared with us knowledge on the glaciers and how ice caves are formed and change. The tour was super cool and certainly worth doing on your Iceland road trip. I wish we could’ve spent more time exploring! We recommend visiting on a weekday, we did a Saturday tour and there were many other groups visiting which made it difficult to take photos. Wear warm, waterproof clothing and gloves. They give you crampons once you get back to the cave. There are wooden planks to walk across and ropes to hold onto to get through the cave. It was not scary at all! All in all, we recommend!
