lack sand beach with basalt cave. The waves are powerful. I would go early so you get pictures without too many people around. Popular tourist attraction. Very windy so dress for the weather.

Visiting this site was one of the highlights of the trip. Deep down between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates is a spring of hot water. Climbing into this cave was precarious but once you start to descend the beauty is incredible.

Beautiful basalt columns located on gorgeous black sand beach. You are able to climb the basalt columns however our guide informed us they are very slippy and prone to crumble, so I wouldn’t advise for safety reasons, and of course to preserve the beautiful columns.
Please make sure you are informed and follow the traffic light system of the beach, for the sneaker waves are deadly, even if you think it is safe to go closer to waves, I advise you to be extremely cautious as the waves have took lives.
It is free to visit here, except from paying for parking.

Lovely cave on black sand beach. We were lucky with the weather as sometimes I believe the waves can be very dangerous.

There are no words for how breathtaking this place is. The massive cave sits on the famous black sand beach and will blow your mind. Seriously, showing off how powerful nature is. We loved that you can go in the cave and up close to the lava formations. The cave and rock formations felt out of this world. Photos really do not do this place justice you have to be up close to really experience it’s glory.

Visited in June 2023, and the experience was beyond words. The scenery is utterly captivating…pictures don't do justice. Never seen anything like it. A must-visit for nature enthusiasts!

Stunning place where you can experience the beauty and power of nature

This beach is worth a visit. It’s a quick trip off the ring road. The parking garage lot can get busy and you have to pay for parking. The beach itself was about a 10 mins trip. It’s very busy with people getting their Instagram selfies.

Our photography tour group went for the sunrise and it was beautiful! The rock formation was interesting and the beach was calm and soothing.

Shows Nature at work over the centuries. Beautiful place, black sand. Just have to be prepared for blowing sand and high waves on windy days, and it does get windy.

A famous natural landmark in Iceland. It is located on a beach with black sand. Icelanders say that the legend says that the sunto is the dragon's mouth. Like the Volcanic area, lava made this half-cave. A must visit.

Great experience on the black sand. Restaurant close by.

Crazy cool place with incredible rock formations and caves! You do have to pay 750 ISK for parking. There is a restaurant on site. A cool area along the black sand beach! It is a popular tourist destination so there will be some crowds, but worth the visit.

Absolutely gorgeous rock formations. We even saw the Puffins learning to fly despite the weather

Great place with beautiful basalt columns and black sand beach, non stop tour busses and people flow. We got amazing weather and ocean provided huge waves to look at.

This is another one of those places where you get there after a long journey and wish you could spend more time absorbing the experience before being ripped away by your tour guide for the next location
The sand was black, the weather cold, and the Atlantic was violent. Don’t go into the water or even near the waves.
It’s beautiful here and worth a trip to see it in person.

The cave is right on the beach. With the black sand, black cave and blue sea water, it's something unique. The place is extremely windy, even sand flies in the wind, but worth visiting.

An absolutely beautiful beach. The black sand is very pretty and the coves and basalt columns are beautiful and fun to climb on. There's a restaurant a little before the beach that's kinda pricey but still good. Definitely worth a visit or two.

There is a sign that tells you the water conditions to make sure it's safe. The cave is unreal and it feels like something out of a sci-fi movie. I could see artists get inspiration from the interesting and unique organic shapes. I loved seeing black sand. Very cool.
