Ytri Tunga Beach in Iceland offers a mesmerizing coastal experience that left me enchanted during my recent visit. The beach, surrounded by rugged cliffs and picturesque landscapes, provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Upon arriving, the unique blend of black volcanic sand and smooth pebbles immediately caught my eye. The contrast between the dark shoreline and the vibrant blue hues of the Atlantic Ocean created a stunning visual spectacle. The beach is renowned for its resident seal colony, and I was fortunate enough to witness these graceful creatures sunbathing on the rocks.
The tranquility of Ytri Tunga is accentuated by the distant sounds of crashing waves and the call of seabirds overhead. The fresh, crisp sea breeze invigorated my senses as I explored the shoreline and admired the striking rock formations that punctuate the landscape.
The beach also serves as a fantastic spot for birdwatching, with various species inhabiting the area. The overall atmosphere of Ytri Tunga is one of solitude and natural beauty, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking a peaceful connection with Iceland's coastal wonders.
In conclusion, Ytri Tunga Beach is a hidden gem along Iceland's coastline, offering a harmonious blend of rugged charm and marine wildlife. My visit left me with lasting memories of the island's raw, untouched beauty.

It is super cold during winter time. But I saw at least 5 happy seals relaxing or perhaps chilling on the rocks less that 20 meters from me. Amazing experience for me!

This was the highlight of the trip. The beach was fabulously scenic, but the real gem was the short and easy climb over boulders to see seals basking on the rocks. A really magical experience

Was so excited to see seals!! Make sure you’re respectful and stay quiet. Some people were yelling thinking they were being funny.

Seals need I say more. Can't get too close. But how many people can say they've seen a seal out in the wild!

MUST stop. drop your car and stroll to the beach. Keep quiet and you will see so many seals hanging out on the stones. Was an absolute treat. Thanks to the guide in the Snæfellsnes Visitor Center for the recommendation!

This was a sneak highlight of my trip. Being so close to the seals on the rocks was very peaceful and meditative. It wasn’t a crowded stop in early October.

The seal is too cute ! They just lied down the rocks waiting for you to take pictures! But it’s hard to walk on the rocks with a lot of seagrass ,it’s very slide!

Nice place to watch seals and whip out your camera with your biggest zoom. Downsides are you have to pay to park, it is very crowded and people do not respect the quiet zone or the 100m distance you have to keep with the animals.

Stopped at this beach to look for seals. There were seals just a short walk away from the parking lot. You could go farther down and there was more seals. The beach was very picturesque. Most some people were not obeying the signs that were in the parking lot about keeping your distance. Please pay the signs

There was plenty of parking. Just don't forget to pay the parking online. It's to help you and the seals.
Additionally, if you don't see any seals when going out to look, just make sure to keep walking a little more.

Beautiful place to spot lazy seals rolling on rocks / if you're lucky, some friendly seals who actually waved as us hahaha! Shocked to discover some huge decomposing whale skeletons too
