Wow wow wow. That's really the only appropriate word to describe this lovely farm. It's super popular in the summer for its horses but coming in winter was such a terrific experience. We got lucky after the blizzard subsided and saw the northern lights. But the owner's hospitality and stories made for a magnificent overall experience.

We did not stay here as it was a stop on our day trip. Lunch was delicious and abundant! Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. After lunch we were able to walk around the horse farm and interact with the horses. Highly recommend stopping by as part of your tour. You won't be disappointed!

A lovely guest house on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The rooms are basic but clean, warm and comfortable. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The food was very hearty and tasty. They also have Icelandic horses on site and were lovely enough to show us the stables and introduce us to a few of their horses. Overall a great visit.

Very well run and organized small business. We enjoyed our stay. We didn't get to ride horseback because of the weather but found some beautiful waterfalls nearby and watched the seals at the beach.

Driving around the peninsula we stopped here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the warm and cosy local farm house restaurant. It is part of a bigger guesthouse, but you are welcome to eat in the restaurant area and take in the food. It was a set menu, but had a variety of options and all tasted very nice. You could help yourself to the buffet and also make yourself a coffee. Fully recommend.
You must remove your shoes on entry or apply plastic covers. No hassle for a lovely place.

My visit to Lysuholl was a delightful experience! The ambiance of this place is incredibly cozy, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere that truly feels like home. The host's politeness added an extra layer of comfort, making the visit truly enjoyable.

The highlight of my visit was the outstanding homecooked meal. Served with care and attention, the flavors were both delightful and authentic—a true reflection of Icelandic hospitality. If you're looking for a welcoming destination with a gracious host and exceptional home-cooked cuisine, Lysuholl is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

Went for dinner – best meal of the whole trip!

Buffet-style, very friendly host, cook and dog. The cook almost seemed apologetic that he was "just filling in for his mom tonight" but he could be cooking in a fine dining restaurant if he wanted! Meal was just under $50 per person but I'd pay it again in a heartbeat.

It was a wonderful dinner. A colorful and nice owner (should I say captain?), a very good ambience, and last but not least: a gigantic amount of delicious food (oh man, this fish soup…)!

You should see the women (should I say the family squad?) bustled to prepare the food (the kitchen is in the same dining room).

If you’re passing through, you should absolutely stop eating here. If you are not, then change your plans, and reroute yourself so it happens. And if you are not hungry, do some activities to become hungry!

We had dinner in this cozy place and we loved it! You can eat there even if you’re not a guest of the Guest House. There is a rich buffet in the middle of the room and you can take whatever you like and re-fill your plate (for 5.900 ISK/person, which we thought was very convenient considering the quality and quantity of food!) The place is rustic and feels like home. Highly, highly recommended! :)

A very unique and charming experience. We were welcomed as guests of the home to share in a family-style buffet. The chef/owner welcomed us with a hug and introduced us to her new great-granddaughter who was visiting. Our kids inhaled their food, accepted the Popsicles offered them by the owner, and ran outside with other children to see the horses and farm dog. My husband and I savored our meal and felt completely at home. This place is a must-see. Totally unique, wholesome, and delicious!!!

Wonderful homemade meal. Abundant delicious food. The hospitality is warm. You take your shoes off before going in, which reminds you this is a home. The view from the dining room is gorgeous. We saw horses and cats as well. Great experience and very tasty!

I did not stay here. But we did have dinner here and it was one of the most interesting and pleasant culinary experiences I've ever had.

Seatings are at specific intervals. And we were extremely lucky to get seated. The hostess/cook/mom(?) announces the menu and invites everyone to come fill up a plate. You walk up, family potluck style, and fill your plate, get a soup or salad, a drink if you don't already have one.

It is easily some of the best tasting food I've had. And the family atmosphere somehow makes it taste even better!

Vón the sheep dog was our entertainment while waiting for the 7:30 seating. And whatever she's paid they should double it.

Minor, common issues with dining on a farm in July. But any small things like that were completely forgotten the moment the menu was introduced.

I'm telling you, it's worth a trip from Reykjavik to get dinner here. And we just found it on a lark. Places like this are what make Iceland and it's people (native and adopted) such memorable experiences.

11/10 stars.

Lýsuhóll offers food that is home-cooked, hearty, and plentiful. The flavors are tasty and the dishes are well-prepared. The dining room offers a simple yet pleasant view of horses wandering the Icelandic countryside, adding to the overall soothing ambiance. Above all, it's the welcoming atmosphere that makes Lýsuhóll stand out - it's not just about the food, but the warmth of the hospitality. A truly worthwhile place to grab a meal.

Note that this is not a restaurant in the usual sense -- they serve a family-style dinner for guests staying in their bungalows, and non-guests can join if there's room. If you are not flexible or have specific dietary needs (vegan, gluten-free, whatever) this is probably not a good option for you.

But if you are willing to "roll with it," you'll have a fantastic experience with tasty food, fresh bread, and wonderful hospitality. It's a bit like being invited into someone's home for dinner, and it's a great way to cap off a day in the Snaefellsness area.
