Rent.is - Campervan Rental Iceland

Our experience with Rent.is was extremely good and we would definitely recommend it. We were a group of 7 so we rented 2 small campervans. Both campervans had internal heating systems through the battery. We did not have any issue heating up the sleeping area for the full night. There were extreme weather conditions for 1-2 days (-18 degree) but it was still manageable as the sleeping bags were super good. We were able to find easily campsites for cooking and sleeping over the nights almost everywhere even though it was off season. The campervans were 4x4 and we had a full insurance so I would also recommend you to do the same for security. We were there end of February 2024 but the streets were all clean and safe. Rent.is was always reachable when we had questions and super helpful with the tips they gave us in the beginning. They also offer a ride from their offices to the airport which is 5min drive. Overall we had a great experience and we would highly recommend both rent.is and their campervans!

Loved my rental with this company! Super easy and it was great that they pick you up from the airport. The car drop off took less than 5 minutes. I’d recommend getting the best insurance package. It comes with wifi and covers anything that might happen which you definitely need in Iceland. I also recommend getting one of the 4x4 vehicles so you can go on all the f roads so you get the full experience. It was also amazing that the rental comes with all the materials that you need to camp. I will definitely be booking with them again on my next trip.

Second time using rent.is ! Such a great professional company! 24h helpline if needed 24h office for late drop offs! Great campervans very equipt with everything you need for your time in Iceland and heaters are very warm even in the winter months would not worry used our heater on less than half in oct/nov. Can not recommend them enough and will definitly be using them again! 5☆☆

Rented a Fiat Doblo Maxi for 4 days around Iceland. For the price and service it was brilliant. The car had 99km on the clock but drove immaculately. Will definitely use Rent.is again when coming back to Iceland to hopefully see the Northern Lights next time. Only slight negative would be the heaters provided weren’t the best but that isn’t a fault of theirs!

Second time using Rent.is and have to say it was as good as the first. Staff is friendly, and want to get you on your way as fast as possible! They pick you up at the airport and get your registered and you are on your way. Hoping to be using them again this August!

We rented a 4x4 Dacia Duster with a folding roof tent. It was ideal for the west fiords and some gravel roads.
The car had some technical difficulty at pickup. It was fixed on the spot and did not give us trouble for the next 2 weeks.
Pickup from the airport went smoothly.

Second time using Rent.IS. Postive experience. Good communication before visit. Best price I would find for a van with unlimited KM. Diesel engine was fuel efficient and heater worked well. Minor issues were dealt with effectively with Hilmur. Comfortable bed. Handled well on West Fjord roads. Good checkin and checkout experience. Highly recommend.

This company is awesome they have a shuttle that runs to the airport every 15 minutes. So don’t worry about calling to get a ride. They will be there. The camper can we rented was awesome and I can’t wait to go back to beautiful Iceland. We definitely will rent from them again.

Our experience was great. The van was very new. We found the price of the van and platinum insurance to be very affordable. Shuttle bus to and from airport was quick.
The fact that the office is 24h really makes the entire trip hassle free.

Van is just the right size and is equipped with everything you need to cook and a fridge that can hold big bottles of wine.

The heating is very powerful and although it was the best thing ever, i wish they would’ve given us a warning about it. Unfortunately we had a few things melt on the first night.

Already recommended it to friends.

I loved driving this thing around… it was not perfect. It DEFINITELY had its quirks.

-The cooler they give does not work (even when plugged in and turned on)
-The van sliding doors do not open from inside
-cracks in the windshield (pretty normal)

Everything else was perfect. Their response time on WhatsApp when I had questions was perfect. Super helpful in person when picking up the van. All of the cooking supplies was great and worked as needed.

Rent.Is were great. Smooth pick up from the airport and to the location where the vans were. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had a brand new CrossCamp with just over 1000km on it, and it was perfect. In the end we had to return early due to a crash whilst participating in an activity and the team were very nice. They weren't able to refund the early return, but the website does clearly state this! Would definitely recommend using Rent.IS if looking for a campervan!

We rented a Renault Traffic 3 (automatic) for three days. There were three of us when we arrived at the rental office two hours earlier, there were very kind and smiling employees and a comfortable waiting room, which is a great thing to start a day. The friendly guy did the paperwork very quickly and delivered the car to me an hour early, so I didn't have to wait. The car was a new model, and everything was clean and tidy inside. There was everything you need for a camping trip: all tourist kitchen utensils, pots and pans of different sizes, an easy-to-use and very efficient gas stove with 2 cylinders (of which we only used one during 3 days of active use), 3 outdoor tourist folding chairs, and a table. They were very useful for breakfast and dinner, to sit outside and enjoy the food in the majesty of Iceland's nature. Inside, the room was easily transformed from a dining room to a bedroom. On the shelves under the seats were clean bedding, pillows, and warm sleeping bags. Not knowing what the sleeping bags would be, I had ordered an extra blanket, but I could have done without it. In the campsites with this camper, it is possible to plug in the electricity and use the heater at night, but we did not use it because we entered the campsites late and all the power connections were already taken. Sleeping was warm, and thanks to the ventilation hatch in the roof, there was fresh air all night. My daughter really liked sleeping in the bus; she now tells everyone about it as the biggest adventure. The car was in very good technical condition, powerful enough for us to drive the winding and hilly Ring Road No. 1. We only planned to go on public roads, so we didn't need an off-road vehicle. But those small pieces that had to be driven on public gravel roads, the car drove excellently—stable and safe. In 3 days, we travelled to Hofn, past glaciers and waterfalls, and back, stopping at places that seemed important to us. 3 days was a good time for this distance. In Iceland, there is a new law that determines you can stay overnight in campers and tents only at campsites. It was different from our experience in 2014, but maybe it's even better that it is, because seeing the large number of travellers, such a rule does not allow Iceland's travel routes to turn into chaos. The only problem was that it was difficult to find a camping spot when it was getting dark on the way, and if you accidentally passed one, then the next one was again after a long distance. Many thanks to the kind and responsive people at Rent.is, we will definitely recommend this company to our friends and to all people who plan to travel around Iceland with a camper. And we also hope to return one day and would definitely take the Renault 3 (automatic) again. Excellent choice for three people.

Place is close to the airport. We found this rental to be more affordable than other options.

After we arrived the guide picked us up from the airport. The car handover process was smooth and quick.

All the items mentioned in the contract were given.

Great service, they were very quick at replying to our emails and provided all necessary information. Picking up the car was easy and fast, as was returning it.
The Dacia Duster (2018 model, manual) we rented had a mileage of 160,000 kms and was running flawlessly, and was without a doubt the best choice for driving around the Highlands on a budget.
The rooftop tent was practical, easy to set up, and all camping amenities were provided.
All in all, very satisfied of Rent.is, especially for the price point.

In August we have rented Fiat Doblo Maxi for one week. We spent our first night in Keflavík hotel and on the next day we were picked up by the rent.is employee who drove us to the office. There we were instructed about where to check the weather and road conditions, as well as where we need to pay road fees (tunnel near Akureyri). Together with another employee we went through the inventory included in the car and our journey began. The car was perfect and relatively new (only had some 16000 km when we began). It contained everything we needed during our trip and sleeping bags together with the matress were perfect. The communication with the rent.is was perfect and straightforward. This company provides the best experience I and recommend them to everyone :)

The good people at Rent.is took great care of us while we were in Iceland for a month with 3 different cars, one of which was a campervan. They went above and beyond to make sure we had the right vehicle. The cars and the campervan were good quality and good value. Our family would rent from them again and 100% recommend them to others.

We had such a great trip!! Rent.IS was so helpful and kind. Very easy and great to work with. We are thankful for them!! We got the Jeep Renegade with the rooftop tent and absolutely loved the car! We had it for 12 days. 11 nights. The car gave us only one issue, which was the Apple Maps but we switched cords, and it worked, so it was a very simple fix. Rent.IS provides everything that you need! -Sleeping bags, stove, dishes, and more.

Here are some tips for your trip -
-During the rainy season, do NOT get a rooftop tent. Rent a van (trust me.)
-You WILL want 4x4 as the highlands are incredible!
-There is wifi at most campgrounds; however, it is so helpful to have it in-between when driving, so purchasing their wifi or getting data is important!

Again, we had a wonderful time and would definitely rent from Rent.IS again. :)

Rented a Doblo Maxi for 11 days. Van had 170.000 km and several battle scars. Equipment was basic but enough. Rental service was very good: 24/7 open, fast, direct, no hidden fees or upsells, we felt very well treated. Shuttle from and to the airport a few minutes away. For sure I would recommend them.

My friend and I rented a car with a tent on top from Rent.is. Everything you need is included with the car! The sleeping bags were warm even on the coldest nights, the propane stove was a great cooking option, and the car was reliable. Pick-up and drop-off was very easy, with a shuttle to and from the airport. I would definitely use them again if I return to Iceland!
