A magical experience. The campervan is well equipped - sink, cooler, stove, utensils, cutlery, plates and cups, everything you need. It is really spacious. We were just two persons but went for this which sleeps 3. Definitely enjoyed the extra space and the comfort is amazing. They are very kind to throw in blankets, sleeping bags, pillows at no extra cost. Our power inverter didn’t make it through airport security they even gave us that at no charge. I didn’t realise the importance of the water tank, make sure you don’t miss that out of your rental. They again happily included this for us without prior planning. The team is amazing, all young and very helpful. You will have nothing short of an incredible experience

I loved this little van, or should I say the Michael Jordan. What an amazing way to experience Iceland!! We rented the AA Van with full insurance, and we definitely think it was worth the cost! To be able to adventure Iceland so freely is the best. It got us around the whole Island, through snow, ice and rain. The heater kept us more than comfortable during November. Was the perfect amount of space for the 2 of us and all our bags, never felt cramped or chaotic. Well stalked for cooking supplies. The sleeping bags were very warm and cozy, not too small, would be good for tall people. The wifi worked everywhere too! The van itself drives great and the studded tires were very good on straight ice and snow. We felt very safe and comfortable. Got pretty decent diesel mileage too, only filled up 3 times and never got close to empty.
I will definitely rent from Kuku again and look forwards to it! I will miss our little guy. Cheers to Michael Jordan and Kuku Campers!

We booked a Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 for 7 days and were able to see so much of Iceland! It was such an easy booking experience and when we got there to pick it up, everyone who we interacted with was so helpful. The shuttle from the airport was helpful and a fun first look at Iceland. They helped us save money on things that we didn't need and offered great solutions when we had an issue with our table breaking. They responded really quick when I emailed them about it and offered to either swap the cars or refund a day. I was very grateful for the options and consideration.
The heater in the car was perfect for overnight and lasted throughout the night. We did use extra blankets we booked to help insulate the doors more as well as our bags. The sleeping bags were great and the wifi was ESSENTIAL! The cooler was good for a cooler- helped keep some veggies fresh for hearty meals. The camping stove was easy to use and clean.

When we come back, we're definitely renting from them again! Such a fun company and great staff.

The staff were friendly and we had excellent communication throughout. I had to change my booking from 6 to 5 days due an unforeseen flight cancellation and they helped me without any issues.

The campervan itself was clean and had everything we needed for our road trip in Iceland.

Outstanding experience with KuKu Campers. You always hear horror stories of rentals abroad and hidden charges etc. This is not the case with this company. From pickup at the airport to dropping off the camper they have been excellent. We had issues with the overnight heater in our van and they covered a night in a hotel and refunded some of our fee to compensate us as well. They organised a mechanic to fix the issue promptly along our route. Could not have asked for more and we will definitely rent from them again should we ever return to Iceland. Recommended!

Outstanding in every way. Staff are super helpful and nice. Had a fantastic experience for our week around the ring road. Heater even kept us warm at night during a minus 24C cold snap in January!

Rented a campervan (BA style) in Oct/Nov of 2023. Staff was fantastic prior to pick-up assisting with rescheduling due to delayed arrival in Iceland. Camper was great and well-suited to the conditions that time of year. Overall, the experience was painless. Would certainly consider renting from KuKu in Iceland again!

Not a campervan so much as a glampervan.

Staff were friendly and funny when explaining the things you should know when driving in Iceland. Explained the insurance and what is and isn't included very clearly and thoroughly.

As for the campervan itself, it was perfect. I originally booked the smallest class, but realized it's probably too small for 2 people with a fair amount of luggage. Upgraded on the spot for the largest one (all they had) and have no regrets.

This would be comfortable for 3 people, so it was even better for 2. We could stand up straight in the back and were able to lay suitcases out and change clothes comfortably - something you'll appreciate if you stop at the natural hot springs or pools.

Bed was comfortable, plenty of places to charge via usb or use an inverter if necessary. The heater wasn't crucial in August, but was still pretty nice to have. Icebox, running water... it's basically a studio apartment on wheels.

Returning was easy as pie. Dropped it off at the airport and emailed them pictures. Overall a perfect experience. Whenever we come back to Iceland, we'll be sure to rent the same vehicle from Kuku.

Everything was perfect from booking to delivery. I was able to contact every time I wanted and got a very fast response. Our Camper (BA) was perfect from cleaning to mechanical parts. We toured the whole island from south, north and west, we did not have a problem, I highly recommend it.

For our 2-week trip through Iceland (partly highlands), we rented a car from Kuku campers. We chose a Mitsubishi Pajero and were very satisfied with both the car and Kuku campers' service.

Arriving at Keflavík Airport, a shuttle was already waiting for us to take us to the Kuku campers "headquarters" in a few minutes. There followed a short briefing on do's and don'ts on the roads in Iceland and an overview of additional insurance (without being pushy). Since part of our trip was on F-roads, we opted for the extra gravel protection. Then we were given some specific explanations about the car we had booked and we could start our trip. The whole process really didn't take much time.

About the car itself: you see lots of Dacia Dusters driving in the highlands, but we were glad we had opted for a slightly bigger/sturdier car. River crossings and inclines were absolutely no problem. The car performed just fine. Once we had a technical problem, but after contacting Kuku campers, a mechanic helped us very quickly and we were able to continue our journey in no time.

The camper-part of the car is very comfortable. We slept fine on the mattresses. We had mostly nice weather during our trip, but those few times when there was heavy wind or rain, we were glad we didn't have to sleep in a rooftop tent. When looking at the pictures of the car, we were a bit worried that the mattresses would not be wide enough, as there is also a locker built into the car. But the narrowest part of the mattresses is where your feet are. For your arms and upper body, there is more than enough room. We slept very well!

The heating was a nice plus. After a whole day outside, it allowed you to warm up nicely in the car. We saw other campers who had to start their car to do so. During the night we turned off the heating, the rented sleeping bags were nice and warm. To darken the car, there are curtains, but if you really want it pitch black, it's best to bring a face mask. The pillows are also very thin. We had our pillows with us from home. The built-in fridge keeps your fresh groceries very fresh.

There is no room for your luggage at the back when you go to sleep, so you have to move it to the front seats every night. The same goes for your bags with groceries and any other stuff. In the beginning, this takes some searching, but after a few days it goes smoothly. We also hired camping chairs, but we barely used them. It's far too cold in Iceland to sit outside for long evenings. So we wouldn't do that again, we had more trouble with the chairs than pleasure. We mostly sat at the back of the mattresses with the back door wide open (you can lock it). That way we were nice and out of the wind. We also had a small table, which was handy for making coffee in the morning and for cooking.

In short, we had a fantastic trip through Iceland with an excellent KUKU car.

We rented a campervan for 5 people for 5 days end of October. The friendly staff welcomed us from the airport and explained everything very well, we felt we were in good hands! The van was very clean and easy to use, we also rented sleeping bags that were freshly washed. Overall a great renting experience and some amazing memories of this great country,

-Tips and tricks on my experiences below-
This team deserves a prize for their honesty, hospitality, fastness on replying on questions (chat and mail) and their positive energy!
It all started with trying their chat on the website. While I'm used to chat with a bot I got a personal reply and very fast. (Or their bot is super good, but it feels way more natural than I'm used to, I just can't really believe I had a person on the other side).
I compared their price with some other companies and I think Kuku was slightly the cheapest. Their reply on all my questions on the chat really pulled me over and I made a booking.
I wanted to rent a campervan from New Year's Day, but they were closed. It's ok give these people a break! I booked january 2nd 08.00 to january 5th 09.45. But I realised I should book the camper with two hours less to save me the fee of another day. So I tried to change my booking through email. When I got the invoice I saw they stuck on the original booking and charged me for 4 days. I wrote them an email, they replied really fast (as always) and they returned me the fee of one day hooray!

Only minor thing I can imagine is the inside is more practical than cosy... compared to all the good things we should skip this complaint and I should work on my personality ;)

Tips and tricks
- Only book the camper (and a childbooster in my case) everything else can be booked afterwards (insurance, gas cans etc.)
- Bring a lighter charger
- Bring a phone holder
- Bring a sheet bag (easy to bring - and saves unnecessary laundry)
- Ask for an extra box to put your shoes in
- Bring crampons (Careful! Not all can go on carry-on)

What a great team they are!

We had an amazing experience with Kuku during our time in Iceland.

We had the BA Camper and it had all we needed. Car was brand new, equipment in great shape, super comfy for sitting and sleeping, and great driving experience.

Thanks for your flexibility for late pickup because of our delayed flight and for being available at all moments.

Paperwork process on day one was a bit slow, but maybe it just felt like that because we really wanted to start exploring the country and couldn't wait!

Use the Kuku maps for campings and places to visit, they have it all in there and you won't have to create maps from scratch yourself!

For sure next time I go to Iceland Kuku will be my place of choice! Thanks!

After having an absolutely awful experience with Icelandair and being delayed for 2 entire days before our arrival to Iceland, KuKu campers was the saving grace for our entire trip. They were responsive via the online chat, even during after hours to help us sort our new airport shuttle times out. They also graciously allowed us to extend our trip by 2 days on the end of our rental, with no extra charge, which salvaged our trip and allowed us to still do everything as planned. Their incredible customer service alone earns them a 5 star review. The van itself was great, the beds we found to be very comfortable, and we had room for all of our stuff. The heater also kept us warm during the cold nights. When traveling to an international destination, a lot can go wrong, so I highly recommend choosing a company like KuKu campers who will do everything they can to make your trip incredible still.

In our opinion, Kukucampers is a great company to rent cars from in Iceland. Although the camper car we got was a bit older but it was very reliable. We went around without any problems despite the unpredictable and inclement Icelandic weather. The overall onboarding experience was good and I believe they are probably the most value-for-money company to rent from. Yet I think it’s always best practice to get their staff to check on the wheels and the engine before accepting the car as fit-for-purpose to avoid any issues (ours were all good, by the way). At the end of the day, we managed to explore so much of Iceland because we got a good ride! Thank you!

This was our very first foray into campervans and camping in general, we had very little idea of what to expect. KuKu Campers seemed to be well regarded, and they also had the best price on 4x4 Pajero (or similar) among other companies. We opted in for additional insurance coverage - basically, we selected everything but the tire protection (more on this later). Gravel and ash protection is a must for everyone who tries F-roads, other things are more optional.

After we have booked the car and paid the price, we randomly checked it again in a few days - and saw that the current price was way lower than what we have paid. We contacted KuKu campers and, although, they didn't really have to adjust prices (think of how tickets for airlines are - they fluctuate, but you get no refunds if prices change), they did refund us the difference and were very polite about that. Since this was the trip me and my wife were planning for a very long time and were saving money for a very long time, this price adjustment meant a lot to us!

The shuttle service we asked for is free, however, the driver was a bit late - making us plenty nervous, but eventually he arrived and was extremely helpful with all of our questions - of which we had a lot! It turned out that he was also the one to guide us through the car itself and the whole process. During our discussion on how we want to return the car, we were advised to shave off one day from our contract - and we were refunded immediately on the spot. Again, great customer service! He also advised us on the types of insurance. When it came to tire insurance, he said that it will cost more than fixing one tire and the chances of ruining more than one in 12 days is very low. This is exactly what happened - we had one flat tire and we took it to the shop, where it did cost less than the insurance. YMMV, though. We were also assisted with setting up a bluetooth connection, because Pajero is an older car - and it is complicated to get to the right menu. We were also given a phone holder free of charge, which was very helpful, because we constantly were using Google Maps while driving.

The car itself, a Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4, was clean and in good technical condition, but with a lot of cosmetic imperfections - as is expected from a high mileage car frequently ran in F-roads. It had a tire pressure sensor permanently on, but we were assured that this is a common issue with Pajeros, and it doesn't mean that the tires are actually under pressured. That being said, when I took the car to a tire shop and had them fix a flat tire and check pressure on all the tires, the sensor light disappeared. It reappeared later on, after ~500 km on mixed roads. Maybe sensor works just fine, but you have to continually adjust pressure after rough sessions, maybe sensor doesn't work, and I just got lucky - hard to tell. Otherwise, the car was very solid and never felt finicky or dangerous, it got us through river crossings and F-roads without any issues whatsoever, it kept us warm at nights, and it had as good of a fuel economy, as this big of a car can possibly have. We were averaging 8-9 litres per 100 km, which is a great figure for an old, heavy car.

The only thing I didn't like was the car jack: it consists of two parts, the jack itself and the metal tube to operate it. The metal tube was bent, making it very hard to operate. And the car jack leaks oil and lacks the height to fully lift the car, if operated from the side, as you would in most circumstances. It can lift the car when placed under the back or front axle, but leaking oil does not inspire confidence. Hopefully, it will get replaced for future customers.

Both the heater and the cooler worked great, even better than anticipated. Heater was able to work for at least 12 hours on a single charge, which is better than advertised. And cooler was perfectly able to hold all of our groceries cool and fresh without anything going bad. Provided, of course, that you drive enough. We did 2870 km in this car, for reference.

Thank you, KuKu Campers!

Could not recommend more highly. Incredible customer service, the airport shuttles were wonderful, everything in the camper worked perfectly and was comfortable. We had such a great 10 day trip with no issues.

Also the sharing shelf is such a lovely idea. We grabbed some stuff on the way out and dropped some on the way back.

I recently had the most amazing adventure in Iceland, all thanks to Kuku Campers! I rented one of their brand new vans and I can confidently say that it was worth every penny.

The level of service provided by Kuku Campers was outstanding. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure that my trip was memorable. From the moment I picked up the van, they provided me with thorough instructions and tips for exploring Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes.

Speaking of the van, it was in pristine condition. It felt like I was the first person to ever drive it! The interior was clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything I needed for my journey. The van’s reliability and fuel efficiency were impressive, allowing me to navigate Iceland’s rugged terrain with ease.

What impressed me the most was the quality-price ratio offered by Kuku Campers. Compared to other rental companies, they truly provide exceptional value for money.

Exploring Iceland in a van was a dream come true. I had the freedom to chase waterfalls, discover hidden hot springs and witness the surreal beauty of iceland , It was an experience I will cherish for a lifetime.
