Parking is free.
No dogs allowed to the lighthouse sadly.
You can walk over to the lighthouse but not during breeding season.
Also, you'll need the tide to be out.

The whole area is stunning but very open to the elements so dress correctly.

Cute place to visit! It's only about 10 minutes from Reykjavik and it's a nice place to visit and take some pictures. There's a big parking lot and it's a little walk across the black sand to the lighthouse.

Be careful about the tides - we went around 10:30am by walking over the sand, but 20 minutes later, the tide brought the water up to the rocks, so we had to walk over some of the big rocks on the way back.

Walked from Reykjavik to the lighthouse to see the Northern lights and wasn't disappointed. My advice would be is check weather for clear skies and also be out from around 10pm to 2am for any chance of seeing them and be patient. Unbelievable experience

We came at around 3:30 for the sunset viewpoint. The area was absolutely stunning when the sun is shining, true postcard scenes in the sunshine.

You can have a very nice stroll to the lighthouse..you need to climb over the stones when the tide is up or walk in waterproof shoes. Free parking nearby. Nice place

Nice place in Reykjavik, is really nice to come here and see around. Gróttuviti – a lighthouse located in Seltjarnarnes, in the southwest of Iceland. It serves as a navigation sign on the way to the port of Reykjavík. It is situated on the west coast of the island of Grótta, connected to the mainland by a causeway.

Such a short and quick drive from the city center to see the northern lights!! It does get crowded with vehicles at night. I was skeptical because there were still some city lights in view, but we got lucky on 12/9/23 around 1 am and saw the northern lights! We did arrive at 11 pm and wait around, but it was worth it!! I suggest you dress in extra layers if you’re looking to stand outside because the wind is no joke!

Beautiful place to visit, ideal to see the northern lights at night. There is a large parking area close to the lighthouse and access across the causeway is open from end October to end February and then it's closed. You can still get to the beach on either side but not close the the island and lighthouse. Well worth the walk out there to see the birds and wildlife.

Grótta Island Lighthouse is a lovely place to visit when in Reykjavik. The parking lot was close and only took about a 5-minute walk to the lighthouse. Walking along the beach you’ll find a lot of sea life, shells, and rocks. Sadly you can’t go up the lighthouse but the views are worth it.

Come to this place at night after 9:00 pm during the season, it’s a great place to see Northern Lights. Dark and quiet.

Please, be sure to turn off your headlights while parked.

My family and I went out to the lighthouse around 11pm hoping to see the northern lights, but they didn't show up for us. We hiked from the parking lot to the lighthouse just to get a good picture of the lighthouse. At night it is very dark, so you will need flashlights and make sure the weather is clear enough for the walk, because the ocean is on both sides of the trail which is on a very thin peninsula, so it could be dangerous during high winds and during a storm. Daytime is probably a lot safer, but God helped us find our way and stay safe. I also would recommend gloves, because the wind is very cold and it becomes uncomfortable very fast. I'd definitely go back though, it was very beautiful!

The walk to the lighthouse from the city can be really long. Be prepared for strong winds and a challenging hike over to the island where the island is located. Really quiet place away from the city center that's perfect to relax at.

My wife dragged me out of bed at 10:30 at night because an app told her we could see the northern lights. After much grumbling, we drove to this lighthouse and actually were able to see them. Very cool place, and surprisingly low light pollution despite being so close to downtown.

We saw northern light at this point. It was good. But of course it is good to know that you must bring your tripod to take picture and to see lights!
