A great spot to see the Aurora without leaving Reykjavik. We parked up at around 8pm and there were plenty of spaces, we waited around 2 hours before the lights started. It does get very busy with cars in the small car park so be prepared to wait to get out. Despite the traffic being a little chaotic it’s worth the effort and the wait to be able to see the incredible sights of the northern lights. Walk down to the beach near the light house for an area that’s a little less crowded and undisturbed with the car lights.

Great spot to see the aurora! As long as you have the patience to deal with people, who for some reason think its okay to leave their lights on? plus it definitely gets crowded... the crowd did end up yelling to people to shut their lights off so it really depends on how patient you are and how badly you want to see the lights...ps apps to help track the aurora: Hello Aurora & kp index

A free car park that gives you access to the lighthouse (outside of summer) and a nice walk around the peninsula. It’s hard to believe that you are just a five minute drive from a city centre. In the winter this is a great spot to glimpse the northern lights on a clear night. In the summer bring your bins and enjoy all of the bird life. A great spot.

Short drive or even e-scooter from Reykjavik. The parking is free and has a very scenic view of the Grotta light house. Good place for Northern Light viewing in Winter. There is a hidden thermal pool nearby.

I took a scooter there from the city - was nice as there’s a cycle path so you arrive with teeth intact which is a nice bonus.

Gorgeous views of sea, mountains and I saw a few whales (as in the actual whales not like a night out in the uk whales) - super tranquil place to just be with the bird song and relax reading a book.

A very nice place for birding. There are huge number of arctic terns. Walk to the ponds near the golf court, and your can find much much much more birds, like gooses, gulls, ducks, sandpipers, loons. The terns may sit on the ground of the carpark. You can also see beautiful sunset there.

Absolutely rammed at 11pm because of the high likelihood to see the northern lights but great place to see them (use Hello Aurora app)

this is a really good spot near reykjavik to try and catch some aurora views. we came out for several nights after a disastrous northern nights tour attempt, and finally on our very last night in iceland, we were able to see the northern lights for about fifteen seconds before they disappeared behind the clouds again. just a quick tip though: if you drive out here, please remember to turn off your headlights! it was super annoying when some cars shined their high beams in your face, since more light = harder time seeing the aurora. it’s a common courtesy ;)

A nice spot for watching sunset or birds. Unfortunately you are not allowed to access the lighthouse during summer.

Got the chance to watch the sunset here the day before the solstice and it did not disappoint. The entire experience was packed with people, and birds!, but it was delightful. You couldn't access the lighthouse because of bird conservation, but the grounds nearby were perfectly enjoyable.

Best place to see the Northern Lights without leaving Reykjavík city. Heaps of parking, heaps of seating. Only down side is this place attracts teenagers in loud cars

Nice parking. You can go to the beach but going to the lighthouse depends on the tide and the time of the year.
