What an amazing place to visit in Iceland. It’s mesmerizing to see the ice formations in Katla. They change all the time so next time you come you’ll be seeing a new thing again.

One thing to know about Iceland when visiting is how busy the underground is. The tour guide added a lot of immersion and importance to understanding glaciers and their existence.
Katla glacier sits on top one of the biggest Volcano in the world - up to 10km in diameter. The circles on the ground are the differences between Katla and E15 that erupted in 2010.
As you enter the valley, you are greeted by nothing but silence and the running water as the glacier blocks all winds and noises from outside. It is slippery and the old cave is pending a collapse so a new one has been discovered and added to the tour.
Really listen to the educational part of the tour, when it does truly erupt it will have lasting effects on most of Europe if not the world. The views and experiences from this entire expedition were completely unique.

It has started to melt, so visit it while you can. Is totally worth it.
Buy tickets with tours, there is no way to do it on your own

Truly incredible experience. Walking through caves that have formed within thousands of years of snow and ash compacting was magical. Expensive to get a tour here but definitely worth it.
It was a bumpy jeep ride to the glacier, and then a short trek across the snow and ash, following the glacier river water. Finally, ascending through the ice caves and into Katla itself was incredible.

An amazing experience. While not too difficult of a trek, there are parts where you need to cross small wooden bridges over 10-15 foot deep gaps and often there is only a rope as a guide to hold on to. (It’s not as bad as it sounds!)
Absolutely stunning scenery on the way to the ice cave, and again once you’re in it.
Definitely worth the trip!

Absolutely worth the time and cost (which is perfectly reasonable). Beautiful experience and once in a lifetime as the caves change each year. Funny and helpful guides make the trip so much simpler. ABSOLUTELY a don't miss.

The place is heaven!
If you in Iceland I totally recommend to visit this place through a tour operator cause the road to this place too bumpy and very tricky to reach.
So I am not sure normal vehicles can make it through.
They do provide spike gears for your shoes and I would recommend to carry your raincoats just in case if there's any kind of downpour.

I absolutely loved the experience! It’s so cool to walk underneath the ice cave, the ice pattern is very neat and beautiful and I think it’s once a life time type of tour.

Nature is so beautiful and creative. It’s a lifetime memory to visit this glacier cave. This beautiful glacier keeps one of the most active volcano under it. The name Katla cave comes from Katla volcano. We visited this place on a nice sunny day in winter cold of January 2023. We went with Arctic adventures.

The most memorial place for the entire Iceland trip. You can explorer few ice caves here with different types and outlook crafted by ice with thousands of year. This is also a place that could explore ice cave and glacier all year round in Iceland.
Indeed, the melting of the ice cave also reminds us the serious impact of climate change, which really worth to pay for a visit.

Breathtaking... and that was just the ride to the caves. See them before they are gone!!!!

Surprising, astonishing, breathtaking and just magical. As a visit on another planet and a nature wonder I was not aware of before my trip. Now, few weeks later I can long minutes look at pictures and admire them. A must have during a visit on Iceland worth every dollar (trips starting from 150€ per person). The ability to enter a glacier and see the blue patterned ice and off-road to get there is an unforgettable experience. Note that the trips might be cancelled due to weather so don't leave it as final attraction. Also it's impossible to get there on your own during winter (and probably summer as well)

We met with our guide “Hawk” (he’s real name I assume is Haukur Johannsson), and the other participants in the parking yard of the Soup Company. We travelled to the Glacier with a modified jeep (a distant cousin of the American monster trucks) which was extra experience. During the journey, our guide talked about various topics, and he never forget mention that which movie or television show was filmed in the area (Interstellar, Oblivion, and Game of Thrones etc.).
In practice he hold a lecture about the glaciers, so we not just saw a miraculous Ice Cave and mountains of ice, but we after this we understand this kind of natural wonders. Our eyes could not embrace all the beauty we experienced, so the 3 hours tour just slipped away. Only one thing surprised me: the “dirt”, I imagined the ice would be clean. When I touch with my hands, it became black, because the wind dirties it with the volcanic black sand. This is the explanation why you could see the different ice layers with your own eyes.
Summary we got what we paid for: a life longing experience. During our time in Iceland, this was my best daytime program.
Glaciers are pure natural wonders, but without our tour guide, "Hawk” it wouldn't be this awesome.

Great unique experience! The place is changed very fast. In few months you will see completely different glacier and cave. It is a better to buy a tour then you will reach the glacier by appropriate for this "road" 4x4 car.

The Katlatrack tour was fun! Crazy fun! Our guide, Jonas, was terrific. So much snow cover that it was difficult to feel like we were walking on the glacier. Ice Cave was flooded..disappointing but still a wonderful experience.

We’ll worth the visit. Fantastic ice cave, you can’t get there yourself so make sure you book with a tour company that has a super jeep!
