Shah's Grand Mosque

The Shah Mosque is a mosque located on the south side of Naghsh-e Jahan Square. It was built during the Safavid dynasty under the order of Shah Abbas I of Persia.

is regarded as one of the masterpieces of Persian architecture in the Islamic era. The Royal Mosque is registered, along with the Naghsh-e Jahan Square, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its construction began in 1611.

The mosque was the crown jewel of the Shah Abbas I’s plan to make Isfahan the capital of the Safavid empire, which would replace the much older Jameh Mosque in conducting the Friday prayers. To achieve this, the Shah Mosque was constructed not only with vision of grandeur, having the largest dome in the city, but Shaykh Bahai also planned the construction of two religious schools and a winter mosque clamped at either side of it.

The mosque is truly a breathtaking masterpiece, the architecture, the interior tile-work, the ornaments, the domes, the beautiful dominant blue color, all were in a great harmony to produce such an amazing sight to the eyes.

It is Regarded as one of the Architectural Masterpieces of Iran. its seven-colour mosaic tiles and Calligraphic Inscriptions and marvelous ornate ceiling is just breath taking. You must visit it.

Abbasi Great Mosque also known as Shah Mosque is a early 17th century mosque located on the south of Naghshe Jahan Square (aka Shah Square).
Construction of this mosque was ordered by The Great Shah Abbas of Safavid.
The most fabulous thing about the mosque is its super magnificent tile work of the dome and the gate with a blue background meaning the sky.

This magnificent mosque is one the most beautiful places in Isfahan you should visit in your life. To me it's more magical at night and silence.

It's worth the 200'000 Rials entry fee. They use it to reconstruct it so people can visit it as well in future. The building is impressive and one of the most impressive mosque we visited in Iran.
As well it's worth to visit it at night as it's illuminated in the dark.

One of the masterpieces in beautiful Isfahan, it is one of the biggest sites. In the noon for praying this mosque will be close for about one hour you can get in side the mosque but to explore it you must wait until praying finished. The royal mosque is open until 5 pm but the sell tickets just before 4:30pm.

Breathtaking mosque in the south of the square. Built during the Safavid dynasty. Entrance fee was 1 million rial in May 2022 for foreigners.

If you don't know which mosque to visit while in Naqsh-e Jahan, than choose this one. Very nice both outside and inside and way bigger than Sheikh Lotfollah mosque.

Its construction began in 1611, and its splendour is mainly due to the beauty of its seven-colour mosaic tiles and calligraphic inscriptions.

The mosque is depicted on the reverse of the Iranian 20,000 rials banknote. It was found damaged in 2022

Jame Abbasi Mosque or Shah Mosque is situated in the south part of the Naghshe Jahan Square.  This site was started in 1611 within the life of Shah Abbas Safavi I and was completed during the reign of his successors.  This great mosque has two symmetrical parts ( SHABESTAN ) in its east and western sides.  The eastern one is bigger but simple and has no decorative features.  The western one is smaller and decorated with colorful tiles consisting of seven color combinations.  Its altar is one of most beautiful among all mosques in Esfahan.  Wall decorations displaying intertwined flower and bushes imitates heavenly images for the prayers.

A mosque with very beautiful architecture, which is located on the south side of Naghsh Jahan Square. After the Islamic Revolution of 1978, it is known as Imam Mosque. During the year, most religious ceremonies are held in this mosque. It is possible to visit the mosque at certain times of the day. The paintings and colors of the walls of the mosque are very beautiful and interesting. I recommend tourists to visit it.
